Like you, we prefer to have a sofa so that means a mini suite.

I'm open to correction here, but I THINK the mini suite balconies on Emerald Deck are covered? They also appear to be in an aft location.

Yes, you are correct, but my problem is we are going to do B2B and can’t seem to line up two cabins except on Dolphin Deck. Might speak to Princess today and see if our cruise planner can help. Thanks again. I really did think a premium cabin gave a sofa, but not so on Crown unfortunately. The extended balcony is really not that of a priority for us, even though very nice. So many times lately we have barely been able to use the balcony because of the weather.

Caribe deck balconies are larger (9’x9’) and are half covered & half uncovered however they are balcony cabins & not minisuites. I don’t know if having a larger balcony or a larger cabin is preferred by the author but they are options that could be considered.

On our particular cruise the only ones offered are Dolphin deck where I can actually pick a cabin, not a deck. We need the same cabin as we are doing B2B. We originally booked an AFT premium balcony on Baja deck (booked whilst on board Royal) but now that we are home I have realised Crown Princess balcony cabins do not have sofas so now wondering whether we should go up to a mini. Unfortunately we do need a little protection from the sun for this particular cruise to FNQ. Thanks all for the input.

  4. Sorry to bother again, but D616 on Crown Princess Mini Suite would be balcony be covered or uncovered? Pros and Cons for this mini suite? . Would I be correct in saying that these minis would be quite large I.e. Diamond Princess size vs Majestic Princess size?

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks all in advance.

  5. Just an update to my questions. B755 has become available on one of the cruises.

Is this a better cabin (no obstruction) B753? If so I will transfer to that cabin and waitlist for the other cruise. Thanks in advance once again for all you assistance.

For me personally the aft facing balconies on Emerald, Dolphin, Caribe and Baja, have ample shade.

Another favorite on the grand class ship are the port and starboard balconies on Caribe.  They have ample shade and are larger than regular balconies on Baja, Aloha, Lido, Riviera.

Take a close look at the deck plans.  Although they are not exactly to scale IMO they do give a fairly accurate idea of the size differences between the aft facing balconies and the many of the port and starboard balconies. Generally speaking the deeper the balcony the more shade.  One exception are the Mini's on Dolphin, all the balconies are fully exposed with no overhang.  The aft Mini's on Emerald are have ample shade are are a favorite for those who want more space and a couch.

IMO the best balconies (excluding Suites) on a Grand class ship are the aft facing and port and starboard on Caribe.

YMMV, let us know what you decide and have a great cruise.

Thank you. We will probably stay with B753

Four of the aft facing balconies on Baja are marked obstructed because they have a vertical structural support beam that obstructs the view from the cabin and the rear half of the balcony deck.   Once you walk past the beam and closer to the rail there is a full UNobstructed view.

Personally the advantages of an aft facing cabin far outweigh the obstructed view so I will book these cabins.  The balconies do provide shade and are deeper than most port and starboard facing regular balconies.

The four obstructed balconies on the Baja deck are 751, 753 and 750 752, the other aft facing on Baja have no obstructions and when I have a choice I would book those first.   The aft facing balconies on Caribe are also a good choice but I have not stayed in those cabins so I can't say for sure.  My understanding is the same vertical support beams run through two of the suites C750 & C751.  Maybe others can comment on the suites.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think B753 balcony would provide enough cover for the tropics or should we consider a side facing balcony with some cover?

Appreciate your reply. The obstruction is not so much of an issue as some protection from the sun.

  8. Can anyone assist with this cabin? Thinking I need to change if it is not partially covered. Thinking Caribe deck might be a better location for sun protection?

  9. Hi all,

I recently booked B2B on this ship whilst on another cruise. Finally home and looking at my booking. It does say obstructed. Should I worry? Also, is the balcony covered in any way? As we are doing .b2B I want to make sure we have chosen well.

    Thanks all in advance.

we have really enjoyed our cruise.

its always great to travel with mum and eat lots. p&o is not anywhere near as good as msc, royal Caribbean  or princess. but they don't come here and do return cruises so we made the most of it.

I'm off in 2 weeks time to Europe for 8 weeks  and will be booking a cruise for while I'm there. so I suppose I can't post on here as its not Australia / new Zealand.

if anyone has any questions about this cruise,  I will  check in here over the next few days.

    Once again enjoyed your review.

I’ve lost track of the wifi prices for elites, I have a 4 day cruise and the price is $77.52 with 50% off

i have a 15 day cruise and the price is the same $77.52 going by the app for both cruises so I think the 15 day cruise is a glitch in the system

Bob, if you have a 15 day cruise and that is the price, book now. There have been a few errors in the app on this cruise….one being two specialty dinners for $78, so take it what you can!

I'm doing a B2B so it's Tokyo, Aomori, Akita, Busan, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Tokyo, Busan, Sasebo, Beppo, Shimizu. I'll have a couple of days in Tokyo pre and post-cruise.

Hoping to find the cherry blossom still intact when we get to Aomori where it will still be quite a lot cooler than Tokyo. I've been to Japan once before and loved it but not cruised there before.

We have friends who have posted photos today of Mt. Fuji and Cherry blossoms. Absolutely amazing.Just hope to see half of what they posted.

It's the luck of the draw with Mt Fuji sightings. If we hadn't known where it was last year we wouldn't have guessed there was a mountain there, it was solid cloud.

Fingers crossed you get a good sighting. 😊

    Yes, hopefully this time!

We were going to do a cruise on the lake at the base of Mt Fuji and then a Tea ceremony.

Not sure what we will do next year.

That’s sounds like a great tour. Cruise going great, you would have loved it! Hong Kong on Friday after 5 sea days, which we have hardly noticed.

By "see My Fuji" do you mean just see it from a distance or actually go there?

If it's the first it is weather dependant but if you're lucky you'll get this view - taken from Diamond Princess in April 2018.

I can't recall if there were any last minute tours offered at the port. We just wandered around Shimizu on that trip. If you actually want to go closer to Mt Fuji, i.e. to the Visitor Centre, or even up the mountain to the Kawaguchi-ko Fifth Station as we did on a land tour in 2006, then it's probably best to book an excursion.

No just view Mt Fuji! We do have a ships tour booked but it is just views too! If we can see Mt Fuji from the Port, we will be happy! We missed it last time (weather not great). I will go and see the Destination Expert this afternoon. Thanks all.

  16. Morning all,

For all of you that have been to Japan, can you see Mt Fuiji easily from this Port (subject to weather) or do I need a ships excursion. It is the last day afternoon of our cruise and as we have been to Japan before this is the only interest in this Port. If we can do something on our own for a short time it would be our choice. If we need the tour, so be it!

    Thanks
