  1. I was in the conquest the same dates as the OP. We debarked Saturday 10/17. My husband and I were in 7201. This was out 3rd cruise with carnival and we had a blast. The temperature in our room was just fine. Things such as temperature are different person to person. We always keep our room warm (I'm easily cold). Food on lido and in restaurant was great and the staff was awesome. We had Your Time Dining and only had to wait for a table on formal night and that was maybe 15 minutes.

Thanks to all who are posting their experiences.

Which dining room was assigned for YTD?

  2. Listen to your grandfather's wife, she's right especially regarding Carnival - its love it or hate it line because of the passengers. Think about the "bad" Walmart customers that don't know how to MYOB - that's Carnival's passengers in a nutshell. You're either going to tolerate that or not. (I tolerated it once - I'm not going to tolerate it again for couple of years or ever, especially if I'm traveling solo).

Pay the extra $5-50 more and go Royal or NCL - you get more out your basic fare with them and have a choice of paying for extras if you want than Carnival, where you might not get much choices to even spend extra for a nice meal on most of their ships (most of the Carnival ships have just one extra-cost steakhouse while most Royal & NCL have a couple of different extra-cost restaurants). True, the 3 lines are more similar than different but its the differences that sets the 2 lines apart from Carnival - Royal & NCL have way more bigger ships than Carnival; have Broadway shows, good live music performances in various spots on the ship and have more WoW factor such as dining, rock climbing walls, water slides, etc than Carnival.

I know some Carnival posters may not like my opinion of the line - that's the beauty of cruising, there's a cruise line(s) for any particular reasons and occasions for anyone. Personally, I don't mind paying $5-50 a day more on NCL or Royal since most of the 'masses' thinks its too ridiculous expensive anyway.

I understand your dislike of Carnival and am glad that you have found NCL to your liking. However, I do not understand why you feel the need to insult the people who do like other cruiselines. Really not necessary. You make some great points in your posts but sheesh, no need to be nasty.

  3. Thanks for posting this. Looks like I will bring my mini fan after all. Also wondering about temp in the dining rooms, etc.

Since there is not a Serenity Deck, did you have any problems finding quiet spots on deck?

Sharon, I am on the same sailing. :)

  4. This may sound silly, but my favorite use of packing cubes is twofold. 1. My underwear it's always easy to find and the cube goes into a drawer, no unpacking. 2. I also use one for all bathing suits and cover-up. Again, right in a drawer.

Agree! These things are great for packing and being able to just toss them on a shelf or in a drawer and still stay organized is even better. I found mine at TJ Maxx and Marshall's as well. Get each person in the cabin their own color and it keeps things even simpler. I can't travel with my cubes :)

Oh and there really isn't a problem with excess weight. I had that issue with compression bags but not cubes.

  5. Good to hear some nice reviews of the Doubletree, because the pictures of the balcony views looked like a real treat for December (coming from the Midwest). It sounds like the bay view balconies do not have a view of the cruise port?

I have a picture from my balcony that I will try to post here if I can figure out how to do it lol! I am from the Midwest too and yes it was amazing to sit out on that balcony in November!

  6. When you arrive at the cruise port and physically check in, you can apply cash, gift cards, and/or credit cards to your account when you get your sail & sign card. I just did this on my 9/26 sailing (I used only gift cards).

I have only sailed solo, but my understanding is that each person in a cabin has their own folio numbers, which are not linked to one account unless you have requested it, but you would need to verify that with Carnival.

This is good to know. Thanks for the info! Did you have the E Gift card or the plastic card?

  7. Stayed at the DoubleTree last year in a bayview balcony (not a suite) and it was heaven! The room was great and the hotel was wonderful. There is a side that has shops and restaurants. Very good and lots of options. Super quick cab ride to the port. Have a fantastic cruise!

  8. Breeze are all a lot of the newer slots. Some of the old school ones too. I don't remember seeing that particular machine but I tend to stick to my old favorites. This was a Blackjack Tourney sailing so the casino was packed most of the time. I didn't fare too well as far as winnings on that one - boo! Very nice casino on the Breeze though and congrats on the Ultra! I missed out, waited to long to call. Have a wonderful time!

  9. I have a Medicine Bag I never travel without it as it's always packed and ready to go. I use a small cosmetic bag and fill it with band aids, the free medicine packets you some times get (also ask your Dr. if they have any small free samples of pain relief gel or creams) and keep all in one place just for your travel needs. You can use the small tins from Altoids to put any medicines you can't find in smaller sizes (works great for pills). Just be sure if you use anything that you replace when you get home so you're ready for the next time.

Great idea with the Altoids tins! Thanks! It's got me thinking of what else I can use them for. Especially the mini ones.

  10. Wasn't this what started the low life statement? This person seems to have felt dis'd like someone was saying Carnival cruisers weren't tipping but the original point was that NCL was making the tipping mandatory and not about whether Carnival cruisers were not doing something. Am I right? Text messages can suck. They are not always as plain as we think.

Thank you, that's exactly what was inferred. Especially with the tone these boards have taken on lately. If that wasn't the respondents intent, my apologies.

  11. I didn't see it listed. Before NCL added the 18% gratuity to the cost, a lot of us passengers would leave a tip (either cash, in my case, or add it to the bill) - maybe passengers on Carnival don't do this.

Yes, we low life passengers on Carnival do usually add to the the gratuity in the steakhouse even though the gratuity is part of the price.
