  1. Thank you for your quick reply, I figured it best to purchase the boots soon since they will be in the stores this fall.

What kind of rain boots did you take and did the crampons work with them? I'd like to just take one type of boots if possible.

    Thanks again!

  2. My husband and I are booked on the Midnatsol for 11 days to try to see the Northern Lights. (fingers crossed)

We live in Southern California so snow in the winter for us is not normal.

I want to get some good boots to have that will allow me to walk easily on the iced streets of Norway and perhaps in small amounts of snow as needed. I'm 63.

Does anyone know of a maker of boots that would be good to take along? I've thought about Hunter Boots but don't know if they will stop me from sliding all over the place on the ice.

    Thanks in advance,

  3. We used Anastasia on our Baltic Cruise in 2012. It was flawless. We had a private guide for our 2 full days in St. Petersburg and then we took the train to Moscow with her joining 2 other couples. Everything was planned out and it made our trip to Russia a very memorable trip of a lifetime!

I can't recommend her any higher. You won't be disappointed.

  4. I've just put together a full photo tour of MS Midnatsol, which can be found here:

I thought this might be useful for anyone considering traveling with Hurtigruten. Over the following weeks/months I plan to add tours of all of the ships in the Hurtigruten fleet. Hope this helps :)

Thank you for posting we just booked to be on this ship in January 2016 and I was unsure of what to expect.

    Great photos!

  5. Hi guys,

We are a young couple, and have been on numerous cruises, and need some advice to decide our next cruise.

I'm looking for a 10 days to 3 week port intensive cruise with decent itinerary. As an example, my last cruise was a 2 week Mediterranean cruise from Venice to Barcelona that covered Athens, Ephesus, Istanbul, Mykanos, Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa, Toulon, i.e. the Western and Eastern Mediterranean. Of the 12 days on water, we had only 3 or 4 sea days, and rest were on ports that were all very different from one another as it .

I am looking for a similar type of cruise itinerary, but don't want to repeat the Mediterranean area. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

One of our favorite cruises was the Baltic. VERY port intensive. I think we had one sea day on the 14 day cruise. You almost need the sea day to rest up to walk more!

    Ports were:

    Stockholm, Sweden

    Helsinki, Finland

St. Petersburg, Russia (Moscow by high speed train on day 2)

    Tallin, Estonia

    Riga, Latvia

    Visby, Sweden

    Gdansk, Poland

    Copenhagen, Denmark

    Warnemunde, Germany

Kiel Canal Transit (the sea day)

    Amsterdam, The Netherlands

    Brugge, Belgium

ending in Dover, England (so we flew home from London after having 2 more full days there.

We made sure to book a cruise line that spent 2 nights in Saint Petersburg as that gave us 3 full days in Russia. We were even able to take one of those days to go to Moscow. A wonderful trip experience.

  6. What time I search for the manufacturer online but there was no source to purchase it.

And don't go on a cruise to stock up in your supplies because while there may be a few remaining on some Princess ships they've been phased out and replaced. Instead there are pump bottles attached to the shower wall containing body wash and conditioning shampoo plus a tube of hand lotion. None of these contain the eucalyptus sent which for some is a disappointment but for others an improvement.

Oh I know, so disappointing! We were in a suite and got a combo tube of "conditioning shampoo" which was horrible, and a tube of body wash which was okay.

I didn't know they had phased out the small bottles. I do have a few left thanks to friends who got them for me or Ebay.

I've tried the Thymes Eucalyptus hand lotion. It's okay, but it's just not the same.

    Thanks for responding!

  7. Does anyone know? I have up the little XELApacks of these and have now run out. I'm hoping I don't have to go on a cruise to visit the gift shop (just yet!). Any other sources? Online perhaps?

    Thank you!

I'd love to know where to buy this lotion as well. It's my FAVORITE and now they don't provide this brand on their ships. We just returned last week from a cruise and I was so sad.

Please share if you know where I can buy this!

  8. As long as our parents are still alive (all 4 are 89) we buy trip insurance whenever we travel. Two of them have been in and out of hospitals this year, so it can be dicey. But not from the cruise companies.

When we went to Africa a few years back the tour operator insisted we have trip insurance and we have not traveled without it since.

Probably in a few years we will forgo the insurance but for now it's necessary at this time in our lives.

  9. We have 2 full days in Montreal before our cruise and have never been there. Is there anything we should NOT miss?

I don't like just wandering a town without some kind of idea of what we should be looking for and have not had time to read up about Montreal at all.

Should I book a walking tour? Or can we do this city on our own?

We arrive by air and leave by cruise ship so we don't have a car.

    Thank you for your help.

  10. The train you talk about is the Arlanda Express, which goes from Arlanda Aiport to the central station where you will get off.

You cant miss the stop since it only stops at the airport and the central station. The hotel is also nearby, just go out through the main exit (Vasagatan),

cross the street, turn right and the hotel will be on your left after some 250m.

Thank you! Upon your advice we will take the train and since it's the weekend I was able to order the 2 for 1 tickets. They put the tickets on my credit card (which is foreign to me) - I just hope it works.

    Thanks again for your help.

  11. We will be arriving at 8:10 PM on a Sunday and were told that the best way to get to the Stockholm Sheraton would be taking the train from the airport.

My husband is weary about getting on the train with our bags - is it fairly easy? And is it marked where we get off the train to find the hotel? After our long day of flying from CA I'd like to make sure this works fairly easy.

We are in our 50's and able body so that isn't an issue. Thank you for any advice.

  12. We're on the Nautica and will be in port on June 20, 2012. It's difficult for me to figure out exactly WHERE that is on the port map. There is no link to click from the Cruise Ship listing and with the language barrier I'm a bit stumped!

We are wanting to take the bus to the Rock Church, I'd like to know ahead of time what bus to take and where it might be available close to where we dock.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Susan
