That was an outdated post with info from several years ago.
Graham is committed to Rhapsody for a long time. By his request. He wants to be on a smaller, more intimate ship, with a more exotic itinerary for a change.
He posts his schedule himself on the Cruise Director's thread, which I maintain, so the info I have is straight from Graham. He will not be on your cruise, and he will not be returning to Freedom. In fact, he mentioned that a CD has a maximum of 3 years on the same ship before they are reassigned, and he has completed 3 years on Freedom already.
Freedom will have a new regular CD to be announced soon, due to start when Mike goes on break in a few weeks.[/quote
Thank you for the information. I am disappointed of course, he was wonderful. But FOS is my favorite ship and will be happy just to be on her.

I commend you on being on a budget as we always are.
I assume you are young and like excitement. (I'm 70) so I say go for the 11 hr drive. Go the day before if you can but you can easily manage that.
Also consider: Liberty interior = $65 per person for 5 nights
Liberty OV = $95 per person for 5 nights
Breeze interior = $87.50 per person 6 nights
My choice would be the Breeze for the extra night plus newer and better ports. But you are also paying and extra $20 per person per night for the Breeze. Have a wonderful cruise. They are BOTH on my bucket list.

There was a post several weeks ago and Graham Seymore, a favorite cruise director on leave, said he would be back on the FOS sometime this fall. Sorry, don't remember what month. We will be on the ship in late November and he will be there too. I believe whoever is there now is only temporary

We were on the deck above the Lido deck (panarama?) and loved it!

i found cruise timetables is more accurate with their dates, here is the link:
http://www.cruisetimetables.com/cruises-to-half-moon-cay-bahamas.html
Thank you too for providing this link. It will come in very handy!
-
There's a website called CruiseTT. You can search by port and by month. That way you can see all the ships that will be stopping at Half Moon Cay on the specific month you wish to sail. You can also see what other ships will be in port with you and the total number of passengers.
Thank you for the website. We also LOVE Half Moon Cay. Wish more of their ships would stop here.

They may have modified the turning basin back when they prepped the port for the arrival of Freedom of the Seas after Mariner of the Seas went to Cali.
Thank you, that's probably what I was thinking of.

Here is a link to the information about the channel and turning basin at Port Canaveral... with a quick look at the stats for the Oasis Class ships... it looks like the present conditions at Port Canaveral may be just right for an Oasis Class... but I'm no expert...
http://www.portcanaveral.com/general/navigation.php
The turning basin requirements are....
Swing or Turning Basin Radius
Central Turning Basin: 2000 feet x 1400 feet (600 meters x 427 meters)
West Turning Basin: 2000 feet x 1400 feet (600 meters x 427 meters)
Oasis of the Seas Statistics
Shipyard: Built at STX Europe, Turku Finland
Maiden Voyage: December 5, 2009
Gross Tonnage: 225,282
Length: 1,187 feet (360 meters)
Width: 208 feet (64 meters)
Height: 213 feet (65 meters) high from the water line
Draft: 30 feet (9.1 meters)
I am probably wrong but wasn't the basin in PC widened and deepened just a few years ago.

Breeze will be in Miami for the time being, and it's superior to Dream.
Now THAT'S the Carnival ship I wish would come to PC. Although RC is really our favoriite I'm anxious to go on the Dream but dread going out of Miami for the first time. We feel at home in PC and is our favorite port.

Neat article.
I would like to see more offered out of Port Canaveral. I would LOVE a Southern Caribbean option on either Radiance Class or Voyager Class out of Port Canaveral.
YES! YES! YES! We love going out of Port Canaveral and don't even mind renting a car from MCO and back. Such an easy drive.

Love all of the recommendations! I actually started a new thread because I thought this was an older post. Anyway, I wanted to post a compiled list of all of the suggestions I found here (and a few from elsewhere). Anything else to add to the list?
The stars indicate each additional time I saw it suggested (so no stars means that I only saw it once), although I stopped adding stars after there was a lot.

Carnival has been quite a let down and we were not impressed with Holland. I'm glad this cruisleline is trying some new things, although it sad to see some of favorites disappear.

FOS has added a few things that are on the Oasis ships. Most, of course, are extra pay type venues. I would like to have seen them add breakfast (free) to Johnny Rockets. Since the restaurant is already there it doesn't seem like such a great expense to offer another free dining experience. It gets very good reviews on the larger sister ships.

never been on breeze just wondering if I should go up a deck thanks for any info
I am speaking from our Dream experience but they have the same layout. This is a great center location, BUT, you will be on top, literally of a very busy area and will see and here everything and be seen and heard yourself. Personally I prefer a higher deck, 8 is nice. You don't notice or hear as much at that level and when sitting on your balcony and tend to have a better unobstructed view of the ocean. THe Dream is a great ship but I am anxious to do the Breeze in the near future. It has so much more to offer. Have fun, wish we were with you!
-
Were you one of the rednecks at that time? Just curious.
CUTE! No, but since I appologized to Walmart I also will appologize to rednecks for my sassy remarks.
-
I am probaly wrong, but I could have sworn that there were a few hot trays on the Indy in March - Eggs/Bacon. But, I ordered off the menu, so I didn't actually take any hot items, but I thought they were there. I did end up using the buffet section as you mention - as a compliment to the menu. We ordered, and then went up to grab a yogurt or nice bowl of fruit salad.
We were on the FOS three years ago and they ha a great selection of hot breakfast items ...bacon, sausage, hash brown potatoes, corn beef has and I forget what else. We ordered off the menu (french toast) and then did the buffet too. Much better than the lido.

I see this morning on John's Facebook page that he got the message about the volume.
He's heard it before, nothings changed!
-
Now you have.
Just got off the Dream less than a week ago with stops on St. Thomas and St. Maarten. I never found it too loud. Ever.
In fact, in the mornings they had, I believe, the cruise director on some show then the Mike & Mike show and GMA at times. It wasn't loud at all and my hearing is just fine. I had breakfast on the Lido one morning just below a speaker (hanging from the roof of the deck above) and it wasn't loud at all.
I also watched the Alabama and Oklahoma game on the Lido deck until they switched to movie night (which was far more annoying than any volume issues, they did switch back after the boos) and while the volume was up, it wasn't too loud considering the event.
Oh and BTW, I'm not much of a party guy and I'm not one big on noise. On NYE at midnight I was actually in my cabin falling alseep :( Not the way I planned it but my body wanted sleep more than the party. My kids told me the Lido deck was very loud that night :D
You are correct, the Dream did not have their volume too loud but at a reasonable level. Not just for your cruise but I'm betting all their cruises. We were on her over a year ago and the volume was fine. But I think the point here is that many of the ships don't use common sense in this regard and ignoe all the complaints of their passengers.
-
If there was a football game on I bet there would not be a complaint... (the exception to this is if there are 2 different games going at same time and the other game is the one you wanted to watch) i don't watch it and I could careless.. but no complaints from me. Yes at times there will be things on the Jumbtron that someone does not like, now we are coming up to the winter Olympics and the requests are coming in ... are we going to be able to watch them on the jumbotron.
Sorry it bothered you so much but you can not please everyone....
Of course not but do they have to deafen everybody in the process?. Isn't there a middle ground we could live with?. Respect for others requires compromise in many things in life
-
We have spoken about this repeatedly and at length
but it falls on deaf ears.
Carnival wants you to have fun, even if it kills you. Or deafens you!
They're going to stuff their noise down your ears, dammit!
I've been out on Lido at 0600 hrs. when I'm the only one around,
and that stupid Noise Machine is going full pelt, catering to absolutely no-one!
You wonder if anyone's in charge!!
Maybe Carnival wants to be tacky and low class! :)
.
[/quote
Boy do I agree with you 100%. We have even heard it when we are on other cruise lines in port and it's disgusting. Talk about Walmart of the Seas and Red Necks, they are very close to this terminoligy especiall since Carnival lets our complaints fall on deaf ears. Is it too much to ask for them to show just a little class.
And I DO appoligize to Walmart for that sassy remark!!

Wow only a $100 difference between balcony and OS? That is a great deal! We got an upsell call today to go from regular balcony to OS and it was ALOT more than $100! ::D
LOL! Time to have your eyes checked....it's $1000 not $100. Wish you were right tho.

As long as no one has any walking issues I think you will love the bacony and he view. Great price!

Dinner.
Thank you so much!
Too late to get a cabana at Half Moon Cay - what do we do?

Agreed, unless there is a breeze coming toward you the clamshells are very hot.
Be sure to get off the ship as soon as you can to get a shady spot. Most of the chairs are in the sun with no umbrella. Bringing your own attachable umbrella for the chairs is another good idea.
If you are a beach/water person this place is out of this world.
