  1. We have communicated with our sons via iMessage with no problem the last 5-6 cruises. We have carried on long text conversations and it is almost as quick as being on land. It will not send pictures.

I have also communicated with a few android users using WhatsApp. It will send pictures.

We have even talked with one of our sons a couple of times over the WhatsApp Voice Call option. It has a slight lag but it works. We talked for over 20 minutes each time.

  2. We got the recipe on the behind the fun tour and my wife has perfected it.

The key is to use very good dark chocolate and make sure the eggs are at room temp.

We have served this several times to friends that we are trying to talk into cruising with us and it hooks them every time.

  3. Hope you have a great time, hasn’t the anticipation been fun? If you remember, can you please let us know what else is on the schedule the night they have the Hasbro show?

I just got off the Conquest yesterday, also a 5 day cruise. Hasbro was on night 3. In the theater they had Bingo just after the game and then the Love & Marriage show. I believe they had PG comedy at 7pm and +18 comedy at 9pm and 11pm.

  4. I just got off the Conquest yesterday. I'm Platinum and my Zone 1 tags were delivered to the room the night before debarkation. I saw the rack with the luggage tags on the last sea day on the Promenade mid-ship. I passed by 6-8 times throughout the day and there was never a line. I personally think this a smart move as it allows everyone to choose when they want to debark. If you need to hit the road early you get a lower number, if you want to hangout on the ship and eat breakfast in the MDR one more time you get a higher number. The way they assigned the numbers before didn't give you this flexibility.

  5. We have gotten the call twice in 19 cruises.

First was cruise number 12 on the Dream. We received the call the morning of embarkation. They offered to move us from an interior on the bottom deck to a balcony on deck 7. There was no cost, they just wanted to move us. My guess is they had someone who wanted to sail but insisted on the cheapest interior room so they wanted to free ours up. My teenage sons were in the cabin next to us and they were not offering to move us all so we had to decline.

Second was just this week for cruise 19. We sail August 6 on the Conquest and received the call Monday July 30. We were in an interior on deck 7 and were offered a Premium Vista (aft-wrap) balcony on deck 6 for $300 more. We took it this time. I searched some other cruises on the Conquest to see what that room normally books for. Of course the prices varied by cruise but it was consistently $700-800 more than what I paid total.

I don't know how they decide who or when to call, I'm just glad to have benefited from it.

  6. My wife and I cruise once a year without our sons. When we do we like the ability to communicate with them. We always buy the Social plan (pre-buy to save a little). Then we use iMessage because we all have iPhones.

We also have WhatsApp on each phone. With this app we have been able to make voice calls. There is a slight lag that you will have to get used to but it works. On our last cruise we had a 20 minute conversation with one of our sons.

Also with WhatsApp I can text with Android users if needed. I have one guy that works for me that knows he can text me if there is an absolute emergency. He doesn't bother me unless necessary but it allows me to relax a little more knowing he could get in touch if things get really bad.

  7. You are bordering on ridiculous with some of these statements unverified by scientific literature. How on earth is second hand smoke "much worse" than the stuff you inhale and where has it ever been proven to cause cancer? Love it when old wives tales get perpetuated as scientific knowledge. Let me guess, you are also a proponent of putting butter on burns and feed a cold, starve a fever. Gimme a break.

  8. AT this point all USA domestic departures will have the American Table/Feast format. According to some there is a bit of menu variation from homeport to homeport based on local food suppliers. Port specialties will vary with port of calls on the itinerary. Journey cruises will have expanded menus to avoid duplication as much as possible.

Great. Thanks for the info. I was curious because we will be on the Fantasy in January and when were on the same ship last June they had the old menus.

  9. Because everyone that used to use it while they were cruising will no longer use it. How can they if cruising isn't available to them anymore? If you're this uptight after going on your cruise then you weren't on the water long enough. You should book another one ASAP

I'm not uptight, I am able to go with the flow just as I did last week when I cruised without a Cruisin' sign and it didn't affect my week at all.

Your the one whose world has been turned upside down because of another Carnival cutback.

  10. My point exactly, how will the stewards know who's crusing versus who is not using the sign? This change forces people to not use the sign while they are cruising...

How does this force you to "not use the sign"???

I just got off the Sunshine last Saturday. Our room steward met with us on day 1 and asked us to put the Snoozin' sign on the door when we were in the cabin and take it off when we were out of the cabin. It worked great. Not once did he knock on our door when we were in the cabin. When we were not in the cabin he took the time to clean.

It blows me away what people will find to complain about.

  11. We purchased the Social Media package on our cruise in February. It allowed us to iMessage with our sons and we also used WhatsApp to text friends and family with Android phones. I didn't realize WhatsApp had a wifi calling option but one night my phone rang and I answered through the app and it was my son. We talked for almost 30 minutes. It had a slight delay but not bad. We also tried FaceTime but it would not work.

  12. The poster husband said he mailed the passport in, and he was 3 months away.

Just to clear things up I am the OP but I am not her husband, I didn't mail her passport in, and we are not 3 months away.

She is booked under her married name and her passport has her maiden name.

She left her passport with me so I could fill out the online check in and I panicked when I saw the last name. After I talked to her I realized this is not her first cruise. In fact she cruise on Carnival 2 years ago, booked under her married name and used this same passport plus her marriage license and had no problems at all.

Thanks for all the responses but I think we have a definitive answer now.

  13. We were big fans of Luggage Express and used it several times. When that option went away I read in a couple of places it was not a Carnival decision but that the airlines ended the service. I asked about it on board and it was confirmed by guest services that it was an airline decision not Carnival.

Last Saturday we got off the Vista. On our shuttle to FLL a couple who had just got off of a Celebrity ship talked about not having to deal with bags. They went on to explain the exact same process we used to have on Carnival and they even called it luggage express.

So was this something that the airlines chose to stop doing with just Carnival or was it really dropped by Carnival and not the airlines? Is there any chance it will return?

I posted this on John Heald's FB page but got no answer.
