  1. We'll be in Nassau 1/5 and I'm trying to figure out if the Atlantis full day pass is worth it or if the water will be too cold to be in?

There are a couple of pools that are heated (but they are not that heated that they are comfortable). Water rides are not heated, and if there is a breeze, can be quite cool.

If the sun is hot.. it's not so bad, if it's cloudy. It's cold.

  2. For an inexpensive activity, take the ferry to Paradise Island (Atlantis).

The ferry is a short walking distance from the port.

Unless you are going to the casino (without kids).. you cannot get into Atlantis without some level of day pass these days. Security will stop you at the door

Aquarium is $49pp/ Beach is $80 pp/ Aquapark is $139.

The only other thing at Atlantis is the marina village shopping (which is outside of Atlantis).

There's plenty of other things to do in Nassau except gawk at Atlantis.

  3. Wondering about using Canadian cell phones in the Bahamas. My service provider Virgin Mobile has reasonably priced talk + text packages for virtually every country in the world except Afghanistan and, for some reason, not the Bahamas either. I can cheaply call anywhere in the Caribbean, even Cuba with no problems. But am told I can not use my phone in The Bahamas at any price. Bell Mobility, a major provider in Canada, put the Bahamas in its Zone 4 after December 31, 2013. This category basically includes only war zones like Afghanistan. One can use the phone in places like Iraq cheaper-not that I would ever be doing that, but it would be cheaper. And at least it could be done.

So I wanted to know what is going on with this? The customer service people either don't know or won't say. Can anyone shed light on this?

Only providers with contracts with the BTC are allowed access to their towers. Apparently your provider doesn't want to pay the price for the contract.

If you go the the http://www.btcbahamas.com website, you can find a list of service providers that have contracts for use in the bahamas.

  4. There's also RIU (on Paradise Island next to Atlantis) and Sandals (on Cable Beach, couples only). Breezes would be the cheapest all-inclusive. It costs $65.

Melia has a food/beverage package. The details have been posted here. I think it's $50 for the buffet/day pass, and $75 for the restaruant. If I remember correctly, It does not include unlimited alcohol.

    Hilton has a $40 food/drink voucher included in it's $60 day pass.

  5. I wanted to show my dad and nephew the hotel, shops, casino. Don't know why they'd make it so hard to get to the shops and spend $ at their shops, restaurants, bars, etc. seems silly.

I hear you, but they don't want outsiders milling around for free. Like I said, casino and shoppes in the Coral towers are open to the public.

Restaurants and bars are open in the evenings. Those open to the public for lunch are generally in the marina village. Eateries and bars on the outside property, near the pools and gardens are NOT open to the public. You'll need a pass to get near them during the day, and they are closed at night.

  6. Is this new?

How do I access the old tower shops then coming from the beach?

This has been in affect for a couple of years, but security tightened this past season.

If the beach tower is open (it's closed now for renovation), you can access it from the roadway near the RIU

Coral Tower can be accessed by Marina Village. Security should be there as well, but just tell them you are going to the casino and they will show you the way.

Atlantis is all about making $$$, there's not much you can do there without spending money. Casino or shopping, that's it.

  7. Where will I be "greeted" by security if I am coming from the beach? Last time, there was no one stopping people from walking the grounds from the beach. They did check wrist bands before allowing on rides and in pools but I could walk through gardens, pool area and into shops. Still the case? We want to just see a little bit of it. Two people will stay at the casino. Rest will head back. We also previously used Atlantis shops area to go out a get a taxi back. Just seeing if I can still do this.

You can no longer access the property from the beach. Security and life guards check wristbands. Atlantis is not open to the public.

You can't walk thru the gardens or past the pools etc.

You can enter thru the old towers, and access that shoppes in the Coral towers, but you'll be stopped going any further, unless your heading to the casino.

  8. I forgot to add. March is spring break, and is not really considered the height of winter. I've never experienced heated pools this late in the season. Jan/Feb would be time for heated pools.

  9. If we taxi to cabbage beach and want to walk through Atlantis to the shops and casino, is that still allowed? We walked from public access point to Atlantis shops, lobby, casino years ago but recent posts suggest this is no longer allowed?

You are greeted at the door by security. You are allowed to go to the casino and the shoppes in the old towers, but you are no longer allowed to wander the lobbies, check out the views or view the aquarium window at the great wall of water.

So basically the older towers are still accessible, but the royal tower (main tower) is not, with the exception of the casino. (no kids allowed).

  10. One of the funnest times I ever had on any cruise ship was when we had an evening trip to Senor Frogs. That was incredible. Last year I actually stayed in Atlantis, and went to Senor Frogs late in the evening (but before midnight) and it was completely shut down. No lights, no people, no activity at all. The next night it was open, but very tame, and I think it was just a few locals.

I will be going back to Atlantis this year, and wanted to know if there is a way to tell if Senor Frogs will be having an active night, or if it will be pretty much shut down.

Senor Frogs is open and hoppin when the cruise ships are in.. and close early when they are not. 90 % of clientele is from the ships.

    Check for cruisetime at: http://www.cruisett.com

  11. Hello fellow travelers: Where are the heated pools? Melia, Atlantis, Hilton? First cruise in March 2015 and by all reports, the ocean will be too cool for my Floridian blood, so I'm looking for the warmer options. Thanks!

Melia has one, Atlantis has a couple (I think 3) and Hilton's is supposed to be heated, but honestly, I can't tell the difference in any of these. They are all cold to me.

If a heated pool was a requirement, I wouldn't pay for a day pass at any hotel during the winter months.

  12. Hi,

Does anyone know what is the current cost for the adults and children Beach Pass if you buy at Atlantis and what does the Beach pass included?

For the Aquaavendure pass, the one with the water park, does it allow you to use the beach also? Our ship docked at 7:00 am and I heard that the water park won't open until 10:00 am (is this still true?) we are thinking if we get there early get aquaadventure pass and go to the beach first then go to the water park when it opens at 10:00am.

    Thanks

Here's a quote I got earlier this season.

This package does NOT allow access to COVE and REEF pools.

Passes are not given out until 8:30am, and the beach and pools do not open until 9am . Slides at 10am.

During the winter season, everything, including the beach, is close by 5pm. Slide will close about 30 minutes prior.

  13. There are lots of articles that show the 'Ocean Atlas' sculpture is already installed and say there are more to come.

Thank you for the info. It looks like an amazing, 'can't miss' experience to me (I love snorkeling and diving). As long as it's safe to make the trip, $40 dollars each way is well worth it to me. :)

Sorry, I didn't realize they put it in 2 weeks ago. (no big fanfare here).

I didn't check into it, and I'm told that it will not be accessible to the public til later this year.. no timeline.

I would recheck the dates as you get closer. $80 round trip would be lost if you can't access the area.

  14. My mother, my sister and I will be going on our first cruise this November and our first stop is Nassau.

We definitely want to do some snorkeling (preferably away from the masses). I'm very interested in the new 'Ocean Atlas' underwater sculpture in the Sir Nicholas Nuttall Coral Reef Sculpture Garden, which as far as I can tell is off the shore of Clifton Heritage Park.

I guess the jitneys don't go out that far, so we'd have to take a taxi. Does anyone have a guess at how much that would cost? I know the taxis aren't metered.

I also thought maybe a cheaper way would be to take the jitney as far west as possible and then take a taxi the rest of the way (for a lesser fee)?

Also, is it safe to travel this far away from the cruise ship/tourist areas?

Clifton Park is about a $35 cab for 2 each way. Add'l persons would be charged $3 pp. You would have to arrange for a cab to come back and get you, since there is no public transportation out that far.

These statues are still in the design Phase. They won't be installed anytime soon.

  15. I meant tickets for the DIG, not the tournament. I heard tickets could sell out if high occupancy. I assumed the tournament would increase occupancy. But, maybe selling out is only an issue for the waterpark & not the Digs.

Digs tickets don't usually sell out. But they do have a problem with overcrowding. Especially during holiday weeks. I don't think anyone can tell you one way or the other. But it will be busy.

  16. Does anyone know how late they are open?

    Thankyou.

They are usually open around dinner hour. Some close early, some late.

and on weekends it can be 3am.

This is a rough spot after dark. We just had a murder here.

If you must go.. make it before 7ish.

  17. Hi! We will be in Nassau the last week of November. How is the temperature and water temperature? I am a Florida girl and prefer the water temp to be about 80/85....so hopefully.

Air temps run around 77/65 in late November/Dec.

Water temps are closer to 75/78 in November. December is 72/75.

Bahamas are situated just off the coast of So Florida. If you want warmer temps in the winter, you have to go further south.

  18. I see that we are the only ship in port the day we are there. I wonder if we could get away with showing up around noon and still getting a pass? Sounds like a good day to sleep in awhile. LOL :D

If you are doing this in January, you'll find it will be getting dark around 4:30pm, so you may not get your money's worth.

Also, With Bahamar opening in June 2015, you may find that the final construction noise may affect the property by then (they are trying to keep it at bay for the most part, but it's inevitable at some point).

Keep an eye out for updates on noise and construction encroachment during the coming months.

  19. Can anyone tell me if this RUMOR is true...... After 5pm you can just walk into the Atlantis and see the aquarium for FREE????

After 6pm security is gone, and people wander into the DIGS aquarium without a pass.

Technically, it's not open to the public, but there is usually no one there to stop you.

  20. I am going during Christmas week. It says $350 for my family of four at Comfort Suites. How do we get the passes? Do we have to go to the hotel?

We dock there at 7:00 a.m. Will it be too cold to go in the water if the pools aren't heated?

You have to check in at Comfort Suites (everyone has to be at the hotel) and then take your hotel pass over to Atlantis to get your bracelets. Bracelets are available after 8:30am, and the waterpark doesn't open until 10am. (and everything closes at 5pm)

Too early to tell whether it will be cold or not. This is the winter, and it can get cool. Only a couple of pools are heated. And the water temps run around 70.

  21. We are cruising over Christmas and will be in Nassau for one day. I have not taken the children (12 and 9) to Atlantis before. Need advice on whether or not it is worth going to Atlantis in December. I am getting differing opinions...how much of it is heated? I know some places are not heated and the temperature looks to be about 78 during the day. Help!

First off, let me say that this is the heaviest and most crowded week of the year, and passes may be restricted. Lines will be long and lounges will be hard to find.

As far as things being heated, I'm assuming you mean pools (as nothing else is heated in the bahamas). There are a couple of pools that are mildly heated, but the problem is more getting out of the pool than being in them. The air can be cool in the winter months making it a bit chilly.

Water temps during this season run around 70 degrees. So you can't stay in the water for long.

  22. My boyfriend and I are going to be on the NCL Getaway next week. We would like to go to Atlantis while in Bahamas. I have read the booking through the cruise line has disadvantages of taking a long time to get the the resort.

Has anyone ventured on their own, taken a taxi or transport to the resort and bought a pass there? Is so, can anyone give us advice on what transportation to take and how to get the pass.

There is just two of us, no children.

Also, does anyone know the cost of buying the auqua adventure at Atlantis for the day?

I did a search of Atlantis on the site, but did not my specific questions.

Any help or info about this would be great! Thanks in advance. :)

Taxi is $4pp, ea. way. Aquaadventure tickets are available at the front door for $125 / 139pp depending on the season. Some days are blacked out and the number of tickets is restricted.
