  1. Is cabbage beach far and does it have calm waters? We are in port for a short time and I have an almost two year old.

I wouldn't recommend Cabbage Beach for a two year old (or anyone that is not a strong swimmer. there are other calm beaches, both free public beaches or day passes.

Personally, I would never take my family to a beach that did not have a lifeguard.

  2. A prepaid gift card would be a good idea with a low balance but I don't know if they are accepted. With your regular credit card make sure to let the card company know that you will be using it outside the USA so they don't put a hold on it for suspicious activity.

Some prepaid cards are NOT accepted. Check with the bank/company that offers them.

  3. We'll be there in about one month, and husband and I decided exploring on our own would be better than the historical fort tour offered by NCL.

We would like to see Fort Charlotte, Pirate Museum, Queens Staircase, and Fort Fincastle. Charlotte seems furtherst from the ship, but I've done quite a bit of research and for each of these places, reviwers have said they're all walkable. Any advice? Google maps also gave the WRONG location for Fincastle (I knew there was no way that was a fort), and I found it several blocks to the east. Google maps' location of Fort Charlotte also looks off; is it on Arawak Cay?

Husband prefers the security of tours, so I'm trying to not mess anything up :D and make sure we'll survive the trek to all these places, or whether we should invest in at least one taxi ride.

Frommers has a great walking tour and map. All the same places, but the map is correct.

  4. We booked yesterday a cruise leaving on Monday. Not sure if we're going to get the day passes from Carnival or not. However, if we wanted to get them from Majestic Tours, could we do it the day of or does it have to be before?

I tried to look at this information on their site and I didn't see any mention of Atlantis Aquaventure.

    Thanks

Majestic doesn't advertise. You have to contact them directly. Since you are going in the off season, you shouldn't have a problem getting passes at Atlantis when you arrive. Although you could go to Majestic same day, they would only have same day passes if Atlantis still had passes. They don't hold passes just for majestic customers.

If Atlantis runs out on any given day, so does majestic.

Be aware that in the off season, some things may be closed for maintenance.

  5. How do i find out what time the water park closes next Wednesday? I don't see the hrs on their site.

Since sunset is at 6:56pm, the beach will be closed around 6:30, and the slides around 6. As the days get shorter, the park will close earlier.

As dusk approaches, they shut down.

  6. If you buy the pass through Royal Caribbean it says the end time is 4pm. The water park doesn't actually close until 6pm on the day we will be there. Is there any reason we can't stay at the water park or the resort and take a taxi back to the ship verses the provided transportation?

Depends on what time you have to be back to the ship.

Traffic on the bridge backs up to a halt around 4:30pm, so if you have to be onboard before 7pm, you'll need to be ahead of the traffic. It can take the good part of an hour just to cross the bridge in traffic.

If your ship doesn't leave til much later, you can take you own transportation back to the ship. Cabs are lined up.

Winter time the park closes at 5pm. In the summer only, it will stay open until 7pm.

  7. We (2A & 11 year old) are on RCCL Grandeur on 2/17/15 from 7-4. There are 3 other ships that day.

Day passes are $125/$80, if available. Ship wants $165/$119. Comfort Inn is $391.82 with fees. Thinking of just trying for day passes due to pricing & also we can watch the weather that day.

Do you think that the day passes will sell out? If so, I can probably purchase from Majestic. Waiting to hear back from them, but I've seen $139/$80 from other people.

    What do you recommend?

Also, if the ship leaves at 4, all aboard is probably 3:30. What time would we want to leave Atlantis?

    Thanks for your advice!

Wise to watch the weather. February can be cool. But that's presidents week, so it IS a busy time of year.

Pools open at 10am, and you should start heading back around 2:45 or so. School buses slow traffic so it's not a quick zip back to port.

  8. Thank you so much. The Hilton looks very nice. Since we will be in port at 7am, do you know what time the pool area opens?

Day passes start at 9am. Pools open at 9 also. Patio Bar and Grill doesn't open until 11am. Kitchen opens at 11:30am

  9. I'm going to Nassau on the NCL Getaway in a week, will be in port form 10am to 6pm. I'm trying to decide exactly what I want to do, and I think it's too much. I NEED to have conch fritters, planned on Goldies after reading reviews, and hitting Junkanoo. But then I saw the John Watlings Distillery (I love rum), and the Graycliff chocolate tour. I don't think I have enough time to do all this. I plan to walk it all, I'm a runner(ish), so the walking wont bother me. Has anyone visited any of the places? are they worth it? Or any other suggestiosn instead of these places?

    Thanks!!!

The Tiki Bikini Hut at Junkanoo beach has Conch Fritters as well. That should save you some time.

  10. Does anyone know when the new hotel (hotels) that make up the Baha Mar complex in Nassau will be opened? I was curious if any of the hotels there will offer Day packages?

Opening has been delayed until next spring/summer.

The beachfront is the beach in front of Wyndham / Melia.

  11. This is what I got from Atlantis today

The Day Beach Pass would be $69.00 per adult and $40.00 for children 4-12. The pass would include the Discover Atlantis Aquarium Tour, Dig access, lunch* (voucher provided only when purchased on Atlantis property), access to the Paradise Lagoon Beach, west beach and all marine habitats. Lounge chairs and towels are provided. : Access to pools, slides and private lagoons are not included and day passes are available for purchase on the resort only. This package can be purchased from the front of the Coral Tower entrance called "Clock Tower". Tickets are sold based on the occupancy of the resort the day you arrive, tickets are not guaranteed. It is on a first come, first serve basis and we are open from 9am to 7pm EST. Lunch is at one of the following five venues: Riverbend (Located Near Splashers): Choice of Hamburger, Turkey & Cheese Wrap, Chicken Caesar Wrap, Three Cheese Flatbread Pizza, Hotdog. Pisces (Located Near Coral Towers): Choice of Crisp Battered Fish, Fried Chicken, Hotdog, Conch Fritters, Mixed Green or Caesar Salad. Cave Grill (Located Near Beach Tower): Choice of Hamburger, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Hotdog, Veggie Burger, Mixed Green or Caesar Salad. Breakwater Grill (Located Near The Cove): Choice of Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Veggie Burger, Conch Fritters, Hotdog, Mixed Green or Caesar Salad. Dive In (Located Near the Mayan Temple): Choice of Hamburger, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Veggie Burger, Conch Fritters, Hotdog, Mixed Green or Caesar Salad. All the above are served with Fries and Large Soft Drink.

    Not bad. ;)

That's the best description I've seen in years.

Keep in mind that the Paradise Lagoon is not a natural beach. It's manmade in the center of the property. Still a good option when west beach is too rough.

  12. We are planning on doing the Atlantis Aquadventure during out stop in Nassau (7am-midnight) and have a few questions.

Where is the best place either at Atlantis or around there to eat lunch AND dinner? After being at the water park, will we need to go back to the ship to clean up for dinner or will we be okay in swim clothes and a cover up? Are showers available at the waterpark?

    Thanks!!!

Sent from my SGH-M919 using Forums mobile app

Unless you want a slice of pizza, you'll need to dress appropriately for dinner. Reservations are required for many restaurants (weeks in advance).

Other, more casual venues allow walk in's.

Showers are available in the transit lounge, near the lockers.

  13. Anyone know where to buy these without going way out of the way? I will be on the Disney Dream coming into Nassau a couple of times in October. Plan to visit Alantis as well as Graycliff. So preferably somewhere near one of these 2 locations where I can walk and pick a couple up to snack on.

I've seen them at Bayside Grocery (just 2 blocks from the port entry on the corner across from the wharf). I think they are the corner of Frederick and the wharf. You can ask anyone, they will point it out.

They are in the back aisle on the floor near the refrigerators. May be a bit pricey, as they are imported.

They are not the fingersized bananas, but a bit larger.

  14. Thank you for the clarification. Is the main beach the same as Cabbage Beach? I thought I have read it somewhere before...

I would love to be able to visit the cove beach and the lagoon but I understand that they want to reserve those areas for the hotel guests and those paying for the Aquaventure pass.

Yes, the Main beach is Cabbage Beach. If the water is rough, which it is often, then Cove Beach will be open to cruisers.

  15. Thanks for the quick reply!

It's disappointing that we couldn't get to walk around in Atlantis unless we buy aqua pass. Our 4-year-old isn't tall enough to enjoy the water park. So I had hoped that with Beach Day pass my parents would be able to enjoy the scenes by walking around.

But one will be allowed to walk through Atlantis from DIGS to the beach, right? How's the view on the way?

The walk is beautiful, passing pools and gardens etc. But it's quite a walk, and you can't even sit in one of the lounge chairs along the way.

  16. I did a thorough search on this board but I can't find a specific answer to this question.

I understand that DIGS pass allows one to visit the Aquarium and predator lagoon, and no access to the grounds, pools, beaches, or other venues on the property.

While Beach Day pass allows one to get on the public beach in addition to the benefit DIGS pass offers.

My question is: what else can I get access to with a Beach Day pass? Say, can I visit more grounds? Lagoons? Can I visit Maya Temple Shark Lagoon, etc?

    Thank you very much!

Beach pass allows access to the Main beach only (unless it's too rough, then they open another beach). It does NOT allow access to the Mayan Temple Shark lagoon (which is part of the waterpark) or any on lagoon. or pool.

Both passes restrict where you can go on the grounds.

  17. :D I honestly have no idea. Are they saying the water gets deeper there? I have seen them where the water is still clear and appears shallow. Are they nets for sharks? Are they to show where the current picks up? Anyone know what they are for?

It's the area that is maintained and guarded by lifeguards or staff on duty. It also marks where boats and other watercraft are NOT allowed due to swimmers in the water.

  18. A couple of years ago we took a taxi to Atlantis and we were able to spend a couple of hours looking around the resort, casino and digs at no cost. There were no guards and no one stopped us. We also went down to the marina area and toured the shops there. I've been trying to find out if this is still possible but when I do a search I only get old posts. If Scuba Girl or anyone else can advise what the latest is at Atlantis, I would very much appreciate it.

During the daytime, you will need a day pass at some level to look around the resort and the DIGS. Casino is open, but kids are not allowed.

Marina Village is open to the public as well.

Security is stationed at the door to stop outsiders from wandering around.

In the evening, after 6/7 pm, security lightens up and no one checks to see if you are a guest or not.

  19. Anyone know of horseback riding at Nassau? Preferable one that goes in the water and is near the cruise port. I looked on Carnival excursions and none were listed. Thanks!

Happy Trails at Windsor Equestrian has the only public riding. It is on the other side of the island. Not sure if they still do a beach ride.

  20. I have a question: if we got there and were denied a pass (it will be March 19) would there be any reason why we couldn't just go to the beach that Melia is on? Would there be any way to rent chairs and an umbrella?

Using the melia beach without paying for a pass would be trespassing.

The day pass includes chair rentals and well as use of the grounds.

There are public beaches along the way, but they are not as nice, and not maintained, no amenities and no chairs for rent.

If you want to use a hotel beach, then you'll need a day pass.

You're date is indeed spring break, but melia rarely denies passes. The beach and property is really quite big. They DO restrict the number of partying spring breakers and try to keep the peace for their guests.

  22. Oh I understand I have to buy the pass. They are $180 through Carnival. I just wanted to know if you thought it was worth it since a) we're not that interested in the slides and b) it will be spring break. We just want to see the place, enjoy the pools and river and sit by the pool, maybe go to the beach. I'm just worried it will be too crowded and since it's so big, we may not have enough time to make our way to everything. Is the river by the pools or is it a long walk? I think we are in port 7am-5pm.

Thanks for taking the time to answer everyone's questions.

Spring break will be a zoo. It's extremely crowded and noisy. Not place to relax. Also, the pools don't open until 9am/ slides at 10am and everything is closed by 5pm.

Traffic getting back to the ship will back up around 4:30pm, so you have to be ahead of the traffic, So you'll have to leave around 4pm to be back to the ship by 4:30.

Can't comment on whether or not it's worth it. It's really a personal choice.

  23. We are going to visit Atlantis in December and plan to go on our own. Is there a way to reserve tickets ahead of time? I am always a worrier.:(

If they are available, you should be able to reserve thru Majestic tours. They don't advertise, but they do sell them.

Otherwise you would have to book a room at Atlantis or Comfort Suites for passes. In December you usually can't book a single nite.

  24. Thank you for this info.

We just booked a short Bahamas cruise and we were thinking of getting the Beach Pass from NCL. It is good to know that you can access all the beaches with the beach pass.

The beach pass does not allow access to all the beaches. It's for the main beach only. When the main beach is too rough, they will open up one of the other beaches to cruisers.

You can't count on being allowed on the other beaches or lagoons.
