I, too, prefer keeping the ships the same. I agree with Peregrina's entire post

The first glass of "included" wine is on me. :)

Sounds like a pretty fun table to me!

Anyone dressed in jeans are welcome at my table even if I have on the requested attire. I see everyone as a human. Not an article of clothing.

Here is a link from a world cruiser on the Viking Sun. It is her first cruise ever, no less!

Great site and, wow, they are already having fun.... ontheir way to Cuba.
Seriously? First cruise ever and it's a world cruise? How wonderful is that! Trip of a lifetime.

We have been using https://www.insuremytrip.com/?linkId=30492&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI76P2676P2AIVDMJkCh3ijQB_EAAYASAAEgKJgvD_BwE as mentioned above for quite a few years. It's a great spot to compare several different policies and companies.

What about Mexico and Belize as far as using money?
Thanks.
We go to Cozumel, MX for 3-5 weeks per year. They gladly accept USD. We have never exchanged for pesos.

There is something in cognitive psychology called "the fundamental attribution error." It is the tendency to consider the action of others as a reflection of internal factors, such as their personality or character, rather than external factors, such as circumstances that might cause you to act similarly. In other words, it is the tendency to be judgmental. Unfortunately, the fundamental attribution error is more common in Western culture than in Eastern culture, and more common with higher education.
I certainly can't argue.

My husband will wear a baseball cap to eat at more casual World Cafe but generally not to The Restaurant. In 2014 he had 13 surgeries and 3 failed skin grafts on his head in addition to 13 rounds of radiation as a result of various skin cancers. This year he has problems with a radiation burn about the size of a dime that he has been trying to heal unsuccessfully for 10 months. The baseball cap hides the scars and indentations on his head. If one of the places is scabbed or looks too red, he will try to hide it with a skin colored band aide (rather than his baseball cap) so not to offend anyone or embarrass himself with the way his head looks.
Whether it is The Restaurant, Manfredi's, or one of the more casual dining locations, he is always neat and presentable. We enjoy Viking because of the wonderful people we have met, the service, the crew and the fabulous locations. We have made great friends on the Viking River Cruise in China, Viking Ocean to Med. and North Africa and look forward to meeting new friends on the Athens-Israel-Rome Viking Sky. I hope that no one will allow what they wear or how they look prevent them from enjoying the Viking Experience.
I am sorry to hear of his struggles. Your post gives everyone something to think about. Your last sentence is something I firmly believe in. I think we shouldn't be quick to judge others and, also, expect everyone to conform to what we interpret things to be. Our experience will be what we make of it. Clothing worn by others will by no means make or break our vacations. Thank you for helping us understand.

Believe me. Nothing like Disney! We didn't have a problem getting washers OR dryers on Viking

Not around anywhere I’ve been and I’ve been around many many decades - back when none of this was an issue [emoji849]

Very, very true.

Many years ago, we spent 17 hours on I-95 stuck in a blizzard with a six month old baby and two bunches of eucalyptus in the car. That scent makes me nauseous too! ;)
I don't even know what to say. I can't even imagine being stuck that long with a baby let alone eucalyptus. Bless your heart. 17 hours is such a long time to keep at 6 month old happy, warm and fed.

Great reminder to tip the guide and driver no matter if you bail early! We saw quite a few that didn't do that. :(
-
The guides are very gracious and understand. Many of them will even say something at the beginning that if you want to leave the group early just let them know so the others aren't left waiting.

We were on the Sea for NYE 2016 (she was in the Med last year). There was nothing special done at dinner but following the show in the Theatre, there was a party in the Atrium to usher in the New Year.
Thanks for the picture. I enjoyed seeing it.

Eucalyptus scent makes me extremely nauseous for about 24 hours but by no means am I going to walk into a spa and demand that they quit using that scent. It's my personal problem and one that I need to deal with myself.

soundcruiser, so glad you enjoyed it. We're like you. Rain or shine, we are out and enjoying our vacation. You should have seen us on our Pulpit Rock tour in Stavanger. It was a horrible rainy day but we didn't care. We were at the front of the boat taking pictures.
-
Thank you, now I am really looking forward that day! Rain or shine we love being in nature and snapping photos :)
You're very welcome. I'm jealous. I am actually thinking about booking a land vacation in Eidfjord. Enjoy the cruise. It was amazing.

We didn't take the tour to Flam but I did want to say that it was my favorite port. The walk that a previous poster referred to was our highlight of the trip with exception to Russia. We walked the entire route but you may not have time to do so. It was so peaceful and great to be off the ship, in nature and on our own. Stunning views in the woods and eventually of the ship. We would occasionally meet up with a couple or two but basically by ourselves.

Never noticed it on the Star but I, personally, would not take offense to it.

We seem to be discussing two different issues. One is whether some minimal dress code (no jeans and a shirt with a collar for men is quite minimal) should exist in The Restaurant, Manfredi's, and The Chef's Table. The other is whether The World Cafe should be included.
Everyone has paid thousands of dollars for their cruise, including those who are tired, want to eat in 30 minutes (which is impossible in the three restaurants), or otherwise don't feel like changing out of their jeans. This is not a one evening situation in which we've all been invited to the opera and either you dress properly or you don't go. When you take a two week cruise, there are good days and possibly some bad days. Everyone has paid for three meals per day, and someone else's taste should not confine someone to their room for dinner. It's a dress code in The World Cafe that I would object to.
Definitely agree.
It's sad when ones attire is being judged at a buffet after a long day of touring. I, for one, don't let the choice of clothing affect my cruise or dining experience.

One word describes our cruise this year........PERFECT.
