  1. OMG! All this over 4 hours total!!!!!!

It is funny, airlines change schediules on a daily basis, and from I gather the complaint is that they gave you 3 months notice that they are changing it slightly for whatever reason

Had they done it underway it might be a valid point if you had planned non-celebrity tours

  2. That cruise must have been a Caribbean cruise. ALL cruise lines try to cater to the crowd and itinerary of that particular cruise. I have cruised on Reflection twice (not in the Caribbean) and it was the same both times, refined but lively; friendly but plenty of room to find your own quiet space when desired; top notch staff, officers, cuisine, and presentation. The Reflection is one of our favorite ships but we avoid Caribbean cruises on any ship for the reasons stated above.

I've found every Celebrity Cruise the same way "lively; friendly but plenty of room to find your own quiet space when desired; top notch staff, officers, cuisine, and presentation". I'm 59 btw

As far as marketing to the next generation, they would be remiss to their responsibility to shareholders if they didn't start now trying to attract a new generation of traveler. Only 30% of Celebrity's passengers are repeat cruisers, 25% are people who have cruised on another line but are new to Celebrity, so that leaves 45% are new passengers to cruising. So if 70% of your client base are new to the brand, you certainly need to try and attract them.

  3. We all know they are bad for you, and since most are manufactured in China they have no quality control or regulation on what's inside them. Bottom line is no one knows what the short or long term health effects will be until we get a generation or two of lungs to look at. Just like the old days with cigarettes, just nicer packaging to appeal to a new generation

  4. I was about to post "if new concierge is half as good as Anca".......and someone else beat me to it!!

She was THE BEST...and I think she has "resigned" ,meaning she has left Celebrity..if true, their ,and our LOSS.

I swear Anca could read my mind, she was able to do things before I even mentioned them. She was even able to get me an Alcove for a few days on a cruise even though they were fully booked months in advance. Just a very genuine, thoughtful lady.

  5. You can read all you like into the ads, and into LLP statement, or take them at face value for what the agency wrote.

Celebrity is a smart brand that continues to grow. What I take from it is seeing the ad is that the world is a beautiful thing, and so is cruising on a Celebrity vessel, and you don't have to give up one, to get the other.

  6. Been lucky enough to dine at the Captains or HD table on the last 10 or so voyages. A few times in a suite, but mostly in steerage (in CC). ELITE + AS well.

The CC hostess usually does the picking from the peeps onboard. I like to think I get invited because I'm utterly charming, but think it might be because I know a few kind people in the Miami executive suite

  7. Hey Johnny and all...since I said I was in cabin 1696, I thought I should post that I have changed my cabin assignment. I'm back to back from the Eastern Med Reflection cruise immediately prior to the Transatlantic, and the Sky Suite (2160) that I am in for the Eastern Med became available for the Transatlantic, so I bit the bullet and bought the Sky Suite upgrade and thus won't have to move. Yaaay.

Johnny, if you would like to move to 1696, it's available and a great C1 cabin and I don't think it would cost you much, if anything, to move (I think prices decreased a bit, so there may be no charge to move)...the cabins over the wake are always really great for the view and usually have significantly bigger verandahs.

Looking forward to seeing you all onboard!!

    Randy :)

    Hi Randy,

Thanks, I saw that there were a few sky suites still available, and was going to look at upgrading myself. I called Bruce at PP though and he said that it would have been about $2K additional, so decided against it.

I am happy though that I was able to get a friend at the Celebrity Miami office to make sure I'm on the top of the list of reserving an alcove while onboard (for at least a few days). I absolutely loved those on Silhouette, and know I'll love them even more on Reflection. Such a great place to read, listen to music and relax and no worries about someone taking your seat.

I can feel the bliss already.

    John

  8. I think it's hysterical that she's touting solsticizing a Solstice class ship! Refreshing it, yes. Updating it, yes. Solsticizing it--I don't think so. It's already a Solstice class ship. Solsticizing is something they did to the M class ships.

    Linda

:D I thought the same thing, her PR people should have thought about the phrasing a bit more

  9. If you are part of the cabin crawl, he/she can put out some goodies. My DH and I had wonderful treats for our anniversary, along with a fantastic cake. Also, they can share the different menus from Luminae and Blu. I wouldn't hesitate to ask them for anything that you may want or just information...

I've been lucky enough to have a suite a few times, but really have a hard time using the butler for much of anything. Twice when I had a celebrity Suite, the butler specifically asked me 'I must be able to do something to help you Mr John' , but said 'No, I'm good' both times.

On the second time though a few days later we were having a cabin crawl, so did ask him if he could put out some snacks. He had suggested I also include the bottles of champagne/wine that I had received as gifts, so I said great.

Day of the cabin crawl, I was going to go up and get some sun, and he said he would set up the room. I came back a few hours later and he had set up a table with a white tablecloth with fresh fruit, pyramid of glasses for the wine and champagne (now all chilled), had brought in juices and water as well.

He had also set up trays of snacks, shrimp, and crudités. He stayed during the cabin crawl and poured wine and champagne for all the guests that came through. Was really astounding.

I gave him a well deserved extra $100 the next day (generally I give $20/day extra for the butler) , and couldn't thank him enough for such a great job

  10. I see your point, but I have to disagree to an extent. I think the reason the cruise lines are so slow and reluctant to provide compensation is because people are screaming for compensation for everything that doesn't go their way or isn't to their liking. In cases like this where there was no power to the cabin I think compensation is justified. However, every person that writes the CEO demanding to be compensated because their Coke was flat or they didn't like a menu makes it harder for people that have true issues to get restitution. If people stopped demanding to be reimbursed for minor things we might see people having an easier time of it when they have a genuine problem that needs to be addressed by the cruise line.

100% right, It always amazes me to see the chronic complainers down by guest relations frequently (some every day), and no doubt in my mind they follow up all their complaints with letters to the CEO, and most are expecting some type of compensation no matter how trivial the concern was. Some people live for it I think.

I am always happy when I hear a passenger actually at guest relations or talking to a senior member of the hotel or ships staff with a compliment, it restores my faith briefly until ten minutes later you hear someone complaining that they were livid because they didn't get enough free drink coupons, or they had run out of pineapple ice cream at the buffet

  11. Just booked my first alcove on our upcoming med cruise on the first sea day. I have a question, do you get to pick which alcove you want or is it just assigned? Also, is there a better one or a worse one?

    Thanks for the help!

The two times I had them, they were just assigned, I don't think you can get a bad one though, all very centrally located, I think that's what makes them so coveted.

One other thing I didn't see mentioned but I consider notable is that each alcove has its own telephone that connects you directly with waiter, so even if the waiter is not visible, you can pick up the phone and make your request

  12. I've always found Matrix search http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ the most comprehensive site for looking at airfares since they include all the airlines rather than just the ones that paid the site

Only downside to them is you have to book with the individual airline as they are purely a search matrix not for a sales booking site

I do like choice air for T/A though, have done three T/A and choice has always been able to beat any other airlines European and Asian single leg price by at least 25% and sometimes as much as 75%

  13. I've really enjoyed having a butler, I think I've had one about 5 times so far. Sometimes very good, sometime excellent. They literally will go out of the way to help anyway you can imagine.

We did a cabin crawl one cruise and the butler arranged a shrimp platter, fresh fruit, and crudite platters. Also set up wine glasses in a pyramid, and served as the guests came through

Important thing though is if you have a butler, tip him EXTRA accordingly. If you need him little maybe $5/day, but if you want him on a regular basis tip him at least $20/day. I know some people use the EXCUSE that he already gets tipped by onboard gartuity, but show some thanks. If you can afford the suite, you can afford an extra $100 for the butler:D

  14. Hi Lisa,

Thanks for taking the time to do this, and sincere good wishes for your ongoing efforts to make Celebrity even better, with your background, no one in the company knows Celebrity better than you

    1. Any plans in the near future to adding Cuba as a destination?

    2. Any plans for strategic partnerships with dining onboard, or is that going to remain in house for the most part?

    Thanks

    John

  15. Just off the Solstice, I met Rose, she is excellent in her role !

Agree, Rose is in that elite bunch of top shelf CC host's. Met her on Solstice on April 20th and she aims to help any way she can. She was even able to help me with a cabin issue (no hot water) after housekeeping/maintenance/plumbers couldn't get it solved. Rose with help from the HD got the issue stepped up to the chief engineer, and got fixed three hours after I mentioned it her.

I really admired her can do attitude, rather than just referring the problem to another department, she was proactive in getting the issue fixed and following up on the remedy

  16. The 90/10 rule always seems to apply to both airfares and cruise line fares

90% of the time I think I found a good to great deal but a month or two later I find I should of waited when I see a better one

10% of the time I score a great deal

Either way, I just say whatever, I gave it my best shot
