Please bring me up to date with your dealings with NCL ..any further forward on refunds .

This was our Christmas/New Year cruise on the Epic 2023-2024 - there has been a discussion of how to receive a refund from NCL for air fares bought independently.

Unfortunately I don't need any tickets until April next year and the flights aren't out yet so it looks like the Lisbon tickets will be wasted.
Yes, it is a case of use the tickets now or face higher penalties . Original tickets cost £652 less £100 admin charges ..so not £552 to spend on inflated prices !!

I've just booked Norwegian Dawn 26th April 24. 10 days Rome to Barcelona. I think that's probably the last available date before the cut off for the 20% Discount
With Easy Jet you have 90 days from booking to change your booking (no refunds) the charge is £25 per person per booking. For us that's £100.
Every day prices go up - sometimes when you are looking at prices ...the page will freeze and then when you look again the price has gone up . Easy it is not !!!
Looking to see what is available in Europe in September.

The Jewel-class ships, including the Gem, do not have reserved shows.
You can book specialty dining, and it’s a good idea to do so, especially if you are looking for specific dates and times. With NCL handing out the “free at sea” meals, and with the inflated levels of Platinum and above Latitudes members, the specialty venues can be pretty crowded.
Thanks , quick response ...now to phone NCL

On the Gem ...do you have to book speciality meals /shows in advance as you do on the bigger ships ?
thanks

Yes I'm in the UK. I called NCL told them I wanted to make a claim for out of pocket expenses they sent me a Link, I completed the form including details of what and why I was claiming, uploaded a copy of my Easyjet booking showing the price and submitted it all back to NCL. I recieved an automated response to say they'd received it and would respond within 30 days.
Is this the same link /form posted by inside cabin ? ...thanks

I have completed the form and hopefully sent my booking details from both airlines, will wait and see! Not fair if we loose the flight money but haven’t heard if my insurance will cover this.
I have spoken to NCL and they have refused to send out this form .. he kept repeating over and over again to claim on my travel insurance . He went and spoke to his superior who said it under "terms and conditions" they was no chance NCL would do any thing . I have never spoken to such a condescending person .

I buy an annual travel insurance from Europesure.
We are over 50years old and use SAGA Insurance ... we roll it over one year to the next .
Always "shop round " but SAGA always have given us a good deal .

If they say no then escalate with references to ABTA code of conduct and package travel regulations(a cruise is a package under the regulations)
We booked our flights independent of NCL so do not know if this is classed as a "package" with NCL .

Hi all,
I just spotted this thread. Sorry for the multiple comments below.
We were booked on the Epic for the Feb. 4 sailing and are disappointed that we won't be taking this cruise.
The whole FCC thing is rather confusing. I spoke to two different agents today and got two different answers about using the FCC before it's posted to the account. One (Jared) said it could be applied retroactively and the other (Jasmine) said it couldn't. This is important because they currently have a past guest offer of either 2 or 3 extra Latitudes points per night, which (coincidentally) expires on May 31. There is a FAQ that says we can apply the FCC to an existing booking: https://www.ncl.com/cruise-faq/guest-make-a-new-booking-before-they-receive-the-FCC
They also could not tell me in advance which itineraries would qualify for the FCC. Example: does a TA that starts or ends in Europe qualify as a "Europe" itinerary? Do Iceland and Norway qualify? Does Britain qualify?
I wonder if they will issue a new past guest promotion on selected cruises that is valid from June 1 and might overlap with those that qualify for the 20% FCC.
Our CruiseNext certificates are already back in our account. We don't have an issue with expiration dates, as they are good until 2026.
Also, regarding what the Epic will be doing, I think the options they have are: 1) it's chartered for that period; 2) they're going to do some maintenance or refurbishment; 3) move it to a different market. This will be hard for them to move it somewhere for a winter season and fill up the ship with 6 months to go.
Side note: We sailed TA on the Epic from NY to Barcelona this past spring. Yes, the Epic has quirks, but all ships have some quirks. The Epic's quirks did not really bother me too much.
We would sail the Epic for Christmas/New Year ...even with the quirks ....not going to happen now.

Yea it will be number six, first couple were from Lisbon towards Morocco and Canary Islands, early on for a bit of winter sun. Then we have one in mid June, Spain and Gibraltar a b2b in September, west then east med. Then of course the November one which will be our 3rd this year with NCL Life is good we have had a family holiday with the kids and Grandkids in Malaga. My youngest lives up in Aberdeen so we will be visiting there a few times in between the cruises.
Thanks .. sounds fabulous ...now going to find something to replace our cancelled cruise. and to use our ( paid for but not now required) flights from Manchester to Venice and back from Lisbon .

November the 4th from Barcelona on the Dawn, the 4th is our 45th wedding anniversary and we will stay 2 or 3 nights in Venice as it’s my hubbys birthday on the 16th. We were just going to have a couple of nights near home in the lakes😂
But thought why not? Haven’t told the grownup kids yet as this will be six cruises this year! At least I’ve booked it when grandson is in school.
That's what life is all about !! . Still looking for Christmas/New Year .... we prefer to be away then.
Interested where did your six cruises go to ...guess you are counting the November as number six.

Well I’ve booked a 10 night med cruise out of Barcelona, got my 20% off and the half price free at sea applied. Also the agent I booked through said I could use both my cruise next certificates which paid the deposit and knocked a wee bit off final payment.I had paid the 12nt cancelled cruise in full so once that’s back on my card I’ll pay final with Amex and hopefully get£150 cash back on their latest offer😊
Only thing is getting the flights sorted as we like to fly direct and looks like will have to tag a few days each side to make it work! Good luck everyone on getting sorted. Dianne
Dianne,
Which cruise is this ?...thanks . ...which month ?

Totally agree with what you say, As usually happens we are suffering with this in the Uk with high flight prices, little flexibility to change these flights etc.
I can see one cruise which might fit in but it’s in November and with the 20% off it would be a good price. But the flights are so expensive and as it ends inTrieste Italy I can only get direct flights to Venice. So a couple of nights in Venice to book, that’s no problem we have been many times. But will have to see how is best value to get from Trieste.Just cancelled the last of my hotels in Lisbon, all of this cancelling and looking to rebook takes hours, and I’m busy getting ready for my next cruise in less than 3 weeks! Dianne
.....and we are packing to fly to Crete . Not much time to sort of this fiasco !!!

The other Sun cruises also sold well maybe not super high prices but they went up a lot.
(When first on sale that Sun Xmas/NY cruise was a steal)
Sell to the Brits, Marella and P&O do well, they package with flights which helps.
Mind you the fiasco over UK cruises and drinks won't be helping the talk is just another reason not to choose NCL.
Yes, thanks ... I have looked .Marella uses a old ship for the winter season .
P&O have a strange itinerary where after joining the ship you do not go anywhere just stay in Tenerife for two nights then over the 7 days visit just 3 other destinations .
Looking at MSC .

Epic was too big a ship for the Canary Islands cruises. But it’s a great location for us for some warm weather in winter will see who else is doing those ports at that time of year! I won’t be booking between now and December for Europe as I’ve three cruises booked before the end of the year. There’s only one of interest in April but might just take the refund. Flights are no good on the cancelled cruise so will loose that money no doubt.
We have flights from the UK to Venice and return from Lisbon . We can "exchange " them for another flight with a charge for flight changes/more expensive flights . The charge is £25 per passenger per flight , because the tickets are one way. ..the charge is £100 . Our flights were booked months ago at a good rate ..prices now are so much higher ...and yes we are disappointed to miss our winter sun.

Redeploy means that the ship is going on another itinerary. She isn’t sitting idol for 4 months. A lot of times it means the former itinerary was undersold and they pulled the plug. Move the ship somewhere where she will make more money.
Once before, they tried to keep the Epic in Europe year round. There was little interest to sail the Med during the winter and the abandoned the idea. Sounds like it happened again.
There is interest to cruise the Med Christmas/New Year .
The Spirit did several before it was moved after refit . The Sun was sold out last year for Christmas/New Year and when we booked the Epic there was limited availability for balcony cabins on 10/11 and 12.
The Canaries are warm and sunny (shorts and t shirt weather )...so I don't think it is lack of interest.

Curious !!! our cruise isn't for six months ...if the price drops ...do we have to pay an administration charge.
Cruise booked through NCL direct .

We're just on 13041 for 15 nights TA, which is practically the mirror image of 13071 - these are basically directly above 11073 and 11099 - ours are "B4" family balconies that sleep up to 4 (very tight for 4, just okay for 3, best for 2, really)
Ours are one of the secret, angled balcony that's quite large, 90 to 100 sq. ft. or double the size of the "regular" balconies on the Epic. Yours would be next door to us, that sleep only 3, officially designated as a B6 large balcony, truthfully, not that much bigger than ours - where we could've possible put 2 reclining loungers, if not 3 outside, plus room for a round or square table instead of the tiny coffee/end table.
Great location, quiet as you have cabins above & below - yours have Inside staterooms across, ours - opposite the white space, which housed the service elevators and crew stairs, storage & restricted corridor used by crews, etc. Garden Cafe, La Cucina, O'Sheehan's are all FWD on the Epic, access to the Taste MDR also best from the front stairs & elevators.
See post #41 and page 5 - post #108 for pictures of our B4 balcony, isn't that spacious. Detailed comments & observations about these rooms within the post - https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2932245-semilive-an-epic-ta-15-nights-ny-to-barcelona-042223-050723/page/5/
Thanks ever so much ....we followed your posts on your TA and were grateful for all the information you posted .
Though someone out there on CC must have stayed in 11099 and taken a photo or two !!!!

Now we just have to wait for our sailing date !!

Hi and thanks .
I'm hoping someone has some photos of the cabin/balcony and any comments on the position of 11099 (slightly forward)

Hi,
Is there someone out there on CC who have stayed in 11099 on the Epic ?
thanks

OK thanks ..I phoned NCL and cancelled an existing cruise booked direct with NCL prior to the final payment date . Booked the new NCL cruise had to pay £ 200 deposit on the new cruise but lost the £ 200 we had paid on the previous cruise
Seems mighty unfair .
