  1. I am a doctor, and I order Phenergan pretty routinely in the ER. Nurses are trained on how to give medicines safely. I have never ordered medicine given at a specific speed -- except for fluids. If I order Phenergan IV (which is rare), the nursing staff knows it has to be infused slowly and not as a push. And if the nurse doesn't know, he/she should ask or look it up. The doc might have some liability if he ordered it IV push, but even then, the nurse should have said something and refused to administer it as such.

I am also a physician. As to whether or not the physician would be liable, it is usually whoever has the deeper pockets. It is very rare for a nurse in a case to be sued without the physician also being named in the suit. It would also depend upon the training level of the nurse. If the nurse is a nurse practitioner she would be held to a higher level of care than if she is a nursing assistant. Ultimately the physician ends up being held at least partially responsible for the behavior of staff working under their supervision.

  2. Thanks so much! Unfortunately, I checked to book something for when I would get off the ship in Miami and they have no excursion at all for that port! Just my luck! Now I will have to sit at the airport all day! :(

There IS a tour for Miami. It’s a hop on hop off bus tour to see Miami and includes complementary airport shuttle when you’re done with the tour. You can choose either a tour that ends at Miami airport or that ends at the Fort Lauderdale airport. After you deduct the $50 discount these would cost you only five dollars for Miami or nine dollars for Fort Lauderdale which is much cheaper than any other transfers you could purchase! The price might even be lower if you are entitled to a latitudes discount.

  3. On your second cruise or cruise where you are Bronze you will have Latitudes status.

Therefore referring to the Latitudes Rewards Chart LINK below:

Every stateroom with a member of Latitudes status gets a bottle of bubbly vino (or clown seltzer water)

one per stateroom - not per person.

    https://www.ncl.com/latitudes-rewards-program

You are free to use drink consume give it away in anyway you wish.

I wonder though what the crew does with all the left over free stuff left by the cruise customer !

I once bought a 1 liter bottle of Vodka at the beginning of a cruise on Carnival cruise line and by the last day I had only consumed about 1/3 of it. I asked my room steward if he knew anybody who would like it and he said that he would like to have it. I guess Carnival didn’t have a rule against this or else he just didn’t intend to tell them.

  4. Don't get too excited, it's the cheap stuff they give away constantly as prizes at all the events and games...

It’s not too good Straight but if you like mimosas you can put your morning orange juice to good use! Don’t get too excited about this free wine. It may give you a little bit of a buzz but it’s by no means high-quality. If you think about it most alcohol you purchase to drink on board a ship costs about 5 to 10 times the normal price it would cost you in any liquor store so when you consider that NCL sells these same bottles of sparkling wine for only $25 per bottle then you can probably guess that in any liquor store it is a five dollar bottle of wine at best!

  5. Now I don't know if the NCL rep was full of crap or not but they told me I just book online and pay like normal. Then after I take the excursion the $50 will be refunded by the method of payment used to make the excursion. It doesn't got into OBC, it will go back onto your credit card.

He was full of crap. Call and cancel the tours then rebook with reservations only!

  6. U pay 250 for 2 cruise next certificates on board.

Since The Cruise next certificate costs 125 and gives you a reduction of 250 the discount works out to 125 for each certificate

For the Norwegian star departing 5th November 2018, the price on my OTA website is 496 + 107.63 taxes per person for an inside cabin.

You can get a further reduction of 250 by applying a cruise next certificate.

Where are you seeing that price? Only with a double occupancy room or were you seeing it when plugging in information as a solo passenger? If that is the price you’re seeing for solo passenger then I would love to know where you’re seeing it because Norwegian Cruise line is charging double that! Earlier I assumed you were giving solo pricing because the name of this thread is Solo bargains!

  8. how do you know what the minimum is? I just got an upgrade offer from inside (location unknown, cabin not assigned as of yet) to OV or balcony, and it just has a sliding scale from 0 to $400 for balcony and from 0 to $200 for OV. How would I know what the minimum is?

In the email that they sent you inviting you to bid for an upgrade it listed on each category the minimum bid required. I believe it also lists this at the NCL site. The minimum bid listed is per person not per cabin. But only applies to the first two people.

  9. i am on the gem to Quebec.

i visited the cruisenext mgr to get more certs for my upcoming cruises this year.

    in the past:

you pay $500, get $250 in obc, and get two $250 certificates.

    you make $250 profit. (+$125 per certificate x 2)

    Now:

you pay $500 and get four $250 certificates

    you make $500 profit. (+$125 per certificate x 4)

or did i understand it wrong?

So if you pay $250 for a cruisenext certificate, do you get two certificates? If so then nothing has really changed.

  10. In Costa Maya there is a tram that provides transportation from one end of the very long pier to the shore end. However, in all my cruises that stopped in Costa Maya, I am not sure what the schedule may be as it appears that once the long tram is completely filled and returns to the shore end, it sits for a while at that end waiting for passengers to go back out.

Once you are on shore, there is a gathering area where tours are organized. From there you must walk out of the port area to the public area outside the port. It takes about a minute or so for the able bodied to do the walk.

Ummmm, So 10 minutes for me. Gotcha!

  11. I have read some comment and found given $50 shore excursion credit is for every port, is it true? I thought it is only one time credit we can use, but $50 for every port is really great, even I booked non-cruise excursion on Tortola already.

My reservation doesn't show any clue of applying on every port, it says "1x choice Shore Excursion credit"

It is the first cruise for me and my family, so I have so many questions. Thank you for help in advance!

The free at sea shore excursion credit is a $50 discount on an NCL tour at each port excluding embarkation. You can even do a tour between debarkation and your airflight time and get $50 off of that. If the tour you choose costs less than the $50, you do not get to pocket the difference. The same is true if you do not take an NCL tour at a port. In that case you just don’t get the $50 that you could have spent towards an an NCL tour. You said this is your first cruise so the following information won’t apply to you but I’m only including it so that if others have wondered they will have the information. If a person is a latitudes member and is entitled to a discount on their NCL tours they do get this discount in addition to the $50 off. For instance, I get 10% off NCL tours due to my latitudes rewards. On my next cruise I booked the playa Mia deluxe beach break for $85. NCL deducted 10% for my latitudes discount leaving a balance of $76.50. They then subtracted my $50 free at sea perk leaving a balance of only $26.50. I normally book tours with companies independent of the cruise line because usually the price is much lower but there is no way I would ever find an all inclusive beach break with unlimited drinks, food, non-motorized water toys, and transportation to and from, for only $26.50. Usually I budget about $100 as my entertainment/tour allowance per port But on my next cruise with the discounts my TOTAL tour expense will only be $97.70 for the entire cruise. If you have onboard credit that you want to use to pay the balance on your tours you need to call NCL to book. If you book online you would have to pay at the time of the purchase.

  12. solo cruise: 8day Bliss Oct 5

cheapest flight ($315) arrives at LAX oct 5 12:25am.

    2nd cheapest (+$60) arrives at 8:30am.

    my plan:

sleep at airport then at 9am take uber/taxi to cruise port.

    Can i sleep/stay at airport from 12:25am - 9am?

    Edit:

i have carry on luggage so all is with me

Wow! You’re willing to accept eight hours of misery to save yourself 60 bucks? My sister and I had a seven hour layover in I believe it was Germany on the way to Italy and we had to spend the night with all of our luggage in the airport for that seven hours! I decided at that time that never again in my lifetime would I spend the night in an airport!!!

  13. I know that, I live in US. But when you are in a store or restaurant taxes are known. So when you see a price it can include everything. Also ads are very often for particular locations too.

I just noticed that it's much more convenient

I’ve been a lot of restaurants in my 58 years of life and I have never seen a bill or menu that listed prices with the tax included. Because the different areas have different sales tax I actually don’t know the exact amount of the bill for the dinner until I receive the final bill that lists the charge plus the tax and finally shows the total. But it never shows the total in the menu or advertisements! In the same way when you are booking a cruise the advertisements and initial statement of the price of the cruise does not show the taxes and port charges because these may vary by which area you are cruising to. But we all know there will be taxes and port charges so we are not shocked when these are added. Ultimately before you pay for the cruise you are presented with the total charge for that cruise so you can’t really claim that anyone mislead you!

  14. Did the Salsa and Salsa dance and it was very fun. It was like a comedy show while making the Salsa. Sat more than danced which was fine with me. Dancing was by choice. Some people just watched the rest of us make fools out of ourselves with our two left feet, but we all had a great time.

How much walking was required to get to the transport for the tour? Some ports have some type of golf cart type vehicles to transport people from the ship to the end of the dock. Do they have this at the Costa Maya port? When you get to the area where the NCL people are holding signs, how much further do you have to walk to get to the bus or van that’s providing transportation?

  15. My family is sailing on the Getaway in December and we are looking for excursions for my parents that are in there 70s. They are up for anything.....it's usually the "getting there" that's difficult for them. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was looking at the Salsa, Salsa in Cozumel, the Jolly Roger-Roatan Catamaran, and maybe Jeeps or dune buggys, or the submarines that are offered at different ports (Costa Maya & Harvest Caye). Does anyone have experience with the "getting" to any fun places? Some walking and stairs is okay, but is there a lot of obstacles, etc?

I leave on the same cruise on 9/16/2018. Although I’m only 58 I have more difficulty moving and walking than almost any person in their 70s because I have rheumatoid arthritis. I am doing the Salsa Cooking and dance with beach break in Costa Maya, the Jolly Roger catamaran snorkeling and lunch in Roatan, and The Playa Mia deluxe beach break in Cozumel. I checked with the playa Mia resort and they have assured me that they are completely handicapped accessible and even have sand wheelchairs to help people get to and from the water. I know I can’t dance anymore although I have taken salsa classes when I was younger, but as long as there is not a lot of walking required I should do OK on the salsa and beach break tour. I still need to find out how far I need to be able to walk to get to where the boat or transportation picks up to be sure that I can do the Jolly Roger catamaran but other than that I shouldn’t have any problems because while I can’t walk very well I swim like a fish.

  16. Are there pools that have step entry instead of ladders? Im worried that my husband may have difficulty on the ladders due to hip replacement issues.

    Thanks!

  17. Harvest Caye is not a true "Private Island" like NCL's Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.

Due to negotiations with Belize, locals work for their living at HC (you would be supporting Belizeans)!

Nonetheless, you can easily enough return (walk) back to the ship for food and drink at any time throughout the day!

And, certainly the island is lovely to visit, even if for a short while.

You know, Several times I’ve heard people defend the charges for food and drink on Harvest Caye by saying, “it’s supporting Belizeans”! I find that statement really weird. To me the only people I should be worrying about supporting are those I gave birth to! If Norwegian Cruise line wishes to support Belize they are welcome to contribute as are any other individuals who feel that Belize requires their support. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not begrudging the right of Norwegian Cruise line nor the Country of Belize to make a profit. But don’t try to make it some sort of a charitable act for me to buy over priced, watered down, drinks on a man made Caribbean island and expect me to be just thrilled about it because it’s supporting Belizeans!

  18. Exactly!

If you purchase dinner on board at a specialty restaurant and you were not included in a specialty dining package then you would have a gratuity in addition to the dinner charges. But if your dinner is part of a Specialty dining package then you would’ve paid the gratuity at the time of purchase of the package. It’s possible that the dining staff made an error and it would have been good to question it at the time of service.

  19. Previously I have always cruised with Royal. Would you say that Norwegian is similar to Royal? And what's everybody's opinion on Harvest Caye? Is it too crowded with things to do or for those have been on Royal would you say it's similar to Labadie where there's the crowded area but then there are still a little secluded area?

You can’t really compare an older ship of Norwegian Cruise line with the newest of Royal Caribbean. I think most of the cruise lines tend to use their older ships for the shorter cruises. That being said my sister and I really enjoyed our cruise on Norwegian jade in 2016. I like a ship that’s a little bit smaller because I’m mobility impaired and it’s almost impossible for me to walk the length of the newest huge Royal Caribbean ships. The one down point you mentioned is the port. I’ve been on 37 cruises and my least favorite port was Harvest Caye. There was a bad smell coming from the water on the beach and although the island is owned by Norwegian Cruise line they do not provide any food or drinks on the Island. The native population supplies the food and drink concessions and the tours. The drinks are expensive and very weak. The tours offered on harvest Caye all seem to involve a 45 minute trip either way so most of your day ends up being spent in a bus or van! My next cruise stops at four different ports one of which is harvest Caye but I will probably not even get off the ship at that port. There are certainly some people who really enjoy harvest Caye but I’ve heard quite a few more say they did not!

  20. The million dollar quartet is listed in the entertainment section of planning your cruise at NCL‘s website but you have to push show “more entertainment” to see it and then when you tap on it it will bring up the reservation page for you to choose your date and time. The show is offered only on the 20th and 21st at 7:30 PM and 10:15 PM. I’m already signed up to go on the 20th at 10:15 PM.
