Viking called me today to address my concerns. Said they DO have "slow walking" groups on the tours, when the need arises. The Cruise director & excursion people are the ones to confer with once we are on board, since they know exactly what we would be up against. Must say I was pleased with the prompt reply & concern.:)

Going on the Italian Sojourn 10/18. Trying to get more info on the difficulty of the included walking tours. How do we find out about any problems for the "slow" walkers, those who cannot walk fast or over "rough " terrain??

I am 130 days pre cruise. Air is included...but you cannot pay for upgrades...they feel these are all short flights. Well from California the trip varies upon connections from 9 hours to 17 to San Juan I have a really bad back (I am in remission from Cancer in my Spine) I must have an aisle seat so I can stand and stretch every hour (as long as safe) I cannot be blocked by some fool onAmbien who cannot move.I have offered to pay for business class but they say no upgrades may be purchased and would not commit to allowing me to fly in early by a day. I wonder if they plan to ship everyone to a charter in NYC. Has anyone had experience with this. I may have to just buy my own tickets.
Had a similar problem due to hubby's disability. According to ADA, Americans w/disabilities Act, appropriate seats must be made available to you. Airlines usually have some seats blocked out for this reason. Call your airline again.

Our flights were all set for our cruise out of Venice. Return flight changed from United to American. Problem is AA will not give us seat assignments. Hubby is handicapped ,and needs an aisle. AA says we must wait till we get to the Rome airport & get the seats then. They advised that the necessary seats will be available. This makes us nervous. Any advice ?

Anyone have experience with using the foldable canes with seats? So many different ones available. DH has mobility problems & uses a cane, but cannot walk or stand for too long. thanks .
-
We are going on the Sun, 10/18. Looking into the "seat canes". Hubby can walk w/cane, but standing for long times is difficult. We are always at the back of the tour groups. Glad Viking has headsets so we will not miss the narrative of the guide.
Since Viking seems to cater to the older guests, one would think they would have more tours for the physically challenged.
PS, his disability is not due to age, happened at age 26.

If so, any advice or comments. Thanks.

Water from the shower would wet a good portion of the bathroom floor every time we used it. We "built a dam" with rolled up towels around the shower to prevent this. Worked pretty well, & our room steward gave us extra towels to use.

We loved the Bistro. Ate dinner there twice on our last cruise. Had soup, we split a salad, had panini sandwiches, & dessert crepes. The soup, butternut squash, was better than any we had in the MDR.

We are talking about the sailing on Solstice of 9/12 - 9/23, 12 days.
-
I started a thread on this after we returned from the same sailing on Solstice. The "official" response from Celebrity was that there was too much ice in the passage.
The itinerary said, until we were on the ship, "cruising the inside passage".
Yes, the rest of the cruise was wonderful. But, Celebrity did a lousy job of explaining the change to its guests.

Price is now $45. pp. Just back from the Solstice.
Food & service was wonderful, just do not order the ribeye, very thin cut.

We were not looking for anything, just an explanation. Many ports on past cruises have been missed. Each time we were given a reason by the Captain, usually choppy seas. We were given multiple reasons by staff.
Cruising the inside passage is a beautiful highlight of an Alaska trip, & a lot of people were disappointed.
-
My issue, beside missing the inside passage, was not being given a reason, a true one. We were told so many different things.
Our weather was exceptional, mostly warm , sunny.
And yes, I CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH !!!! Celebrity owes us that !
-
The Captain said NOTHING. Passengers were never notified or given a reason why we were not doing the passage. Guest relations on board gave us the following reasons ;
1. do not know
2. never part of the itinerary, a mistake made by Celebrity in listing it
3. ship was too large
4. seas were too rough
5. we did sail it, 4 -5 am
The " too much ice" reason was given to me over the phone by Celebrity, today.
Also, we sailed thru the inside passage 20 years ago, it was beautiful, no ice.
-
Just back from the 9/12-9/23 Solstice sailing of Alaska & BC. Had a wonderful time, except for 2 little details.
One, food quality in the MDR has definitely gone down.
Two, did not cruise the Inside Passage. No announcement made on ship.
Various reasons were given by guest relations. Today i was told by a Celebrity rep. that there was too much ice floating in the inside passage, therefore making it risky for the ship. WHAT ????? Ice in the inside passage ? Tracy arm, Glacier Bay , yes.
OK, comments, anyone ????
-
Thank you all. Made my day, smiling again !!!:)

Pompei is very difficult if you have any mobility issues. Naples has a wonderful archeological museum with great artifacts from Pompei. Also, handicapp accessible.
Florence has some areas with narrow sidewalks & large curved cobblestones. Hubby was using a cane then & it would slip on the stones. Sidewalks were crowded, so hard to maneuver.
Amalfi coast is very hilly, so very hard to go around.
Sorry to be a downer, but best to be prepared.
