Had the lobster stir wok ginger and garlic in Koningsdam Tamarind a couple of weeks ago. Delicious!

Great, hope it is still on the menu in December. I had this last year on Nieuw Amsterdam and it was my favorite!

Yes, that is true.  I was only addressing the incorrect statement that "it does not matter how you obtained a Neptune Suite, you will get double credits" and pointed out one instance how one would not get the double credits.

One can only get double credits if one pays the published fare for a suite (any suite).

I have received double credits for a suite on casino bookings and upsells to a suite. Not sure if it is the norm but fortunately for me I received double credits for both cruise.

  3. Can you exchange the points for cash?

BTW, I would suggest you get a cash back card. There are several out there that give up to 3% cash back on travel which includes hotels, rental cars, airplanes, cruise lines, restaurants, etc. One of the big advantages is the fact that you can use the cash anywhere, on any cruise line, etc. I prefer the Costco Citibank card - 3% on travel, 2% on Costco purchases, and 1% elsewhere. It also pays 4% on gas purchases. We usually cruise in March and we get our rebate check in February so that works well. You always need to carry some cash with you or you can just use the cash towards payments on the card.

It also provides up to $10,000 in Trip Protection for trips charged to the card at no extra cost:

    "Trip Cancellation & Interruption Protection

Travel plans can go awry for many reasons. If certain unforeseen events get in the way of your trip, you may be reimbursed for non–refundable trip expenses, like change fees, provided you paid for the trip with your Citi card."

Here's some information from Cruise Critic on credit cards:

Here's a quote: "If you want to get the best return on investment from a credit card, cruise credit cards aren't the way to go. With most charges yielding just a 1 percent effective rebate on a limited catalog of awards, cruise credit cards aren't top-of-the-class in terms of value or rewards flexibility."

Thank you! I am definitely going to look into my options. I do agree I am not receiving the best rewards for my money spent.

I can not cash out but I can receive a credit on my card for the money spent on HAL just not at the same rate as I would from Carnival.

  4. Thank you for your advice. I called the Holland number but still ended up talking with the Carnival card representative. They will not transfer my points but I can apply for a new card. [emoji53]

I can use the points toward my HAL cruise but the are not worth as much.

  5. I have a Barclays carnival credit card. My husband and I always cruised carnival for our children. Now our children grown and we prefer cruising HAL. Has anyone ever changed their cards over to another line? If so, what happens to your existing points? I currently have over 100,000 points and trying to decide on how to use them. I also have a Holland cruise booked for Thanksgiving this year.

    Any advice?

  6. I received this email today.

"YOUR FREE GIFT IS WAITING FOR YOU, TOO!

When you embark on your upcoming cruise, be sure to visit the Holland America Line Privileges[emoji769] concierge to receive your gift and schedule a short preview with one of our associates to learn more about this groundbreaking rewards program.

We look forward to introducing you to the newest program in cruising!

*Holland America Line Privileges is not a credit card program — it is an exclusive membership program by invitation only."

Can anyone tell me about this?

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks everyone. I think I will reach out to my pcc and see if he can do something for me.

Called my PCC and he said there are no offers currently.

I am sure I will have a great cruise either way. It is just the first time I have not had an offer of some sort.

  8. Just curious on how upsells work. I am cruising in about a week on the Nieuw Amsterdam. I am booked in an Oceanview and noticed several unsold cabins in higher categories. When does the HAL decide to who and when upsells are made? I have been patiently awaiting an email from them. I have received them in the past on several of my cruises but not this time. I used a PCC to book my cruise and I am on a casino special which I have done before with upsell offers.

    Thanks!

  9. Personally I'll just be happy when I'm not greeted with a goofy grinning photo of Oprah every time I log onto HAL's home page. I find it very distracting...(read "feels cheap", like something I would expect on a different cruise line).

PS - haven't been on HAL since 2015. What's up with the libraries? Several mentions of them going away? We like the Explorations Cafe, especially on the S and R class ships and would be sad if they go away. And what will replace those great spaces if they do eliminate them?

I agree. I have been on HALs site several times lately doing my online check in. I cringe when I see her smiling face. I would much rather see a DAM ship. Lol

  10. I cruised the Zuiderdam in May 2016. The wifi was expensive and very slow. I am in sales and need to check my emails daily to make sure all my clients needs are handled. It usually took me 2-3 minutes just to load my email each day plus and additional 10-15 minutes to respond. I also tried to share photos with my daughter on facebook but the photos just took way to long to load and was unable to send them unless I could get free wifi at port.

I did complain on my survey and asked them to consider a social network plan like Carnival has. I do hope they consider it. My husband and I have become a fan of HAL but some of us do need the internet while on vacation.

  11. I am doing my first "free" casino cruise this month. I am headed to the Norwegian Fjords on May 17th. Upgraded to signature Suite for $339.

The deals are real. I just started receiving them last month. I hope they continue.
