  1. We had to cancel a cruise in 2011 due to medical reasons and received the OBC points back without a problem. This was 3 days before the cruise was to depart. Maybe it was because it was for medical reasons. Also the Berkley Insurance was wonderful in refunding the full cost of the cruise. :D

  2. A towel bar, the drain pipe under the sink?

    Mike:)

We have a straight cable with lock for the laptop and secure it on the closet bar with the laptop sitting on the upper shelf covered in towels, of course. Jewelry goes in the safe. I have been lax with my Kindle, just leaving it in a drawer. Maybe that will have to go in the safe too!

  3. I would definitely call Princess back and ask for a supervisor. Explain the situation. I also would not worry about getting a balcony. There might be inside cabins available and she can come and enjoy your balcony.

As far as trading cabins, I seriously doubt if that would be allowed at this late date.

Good luck! We cruised with my mother until she was 90. Always an adventure!

  4. In the dining rooms I think they have the bigger bottles of San Pelligrino, but in the mini bar set ups they have the small bottles of Perrier. If they have it in the mini bars I'm sure you can get it anywhere on the ship! ;)

  5. We've done the BVE 3 times with between 4 to 6 people plus us (the passengers). We did not tip.

Other than eating lunch, there's an optional tour of the ship that few participate in. When you're done with lunch there will probably be at least 90 minutes to explore the ship or swim. Your guests can change clothes in a restroom or in your cabin. Have fun!

  6. I found a great dark suit for my grandson in a resale store. Look around - you can find some treasures.:)

I agree! Thrift shops or garage sales are the way to go. If he doesn't want to wear a suit coat, get him a vest, white shirt & tie. ;)

  7. Sure. Nope, no bucket of beer, but he wouldn't need it as he can have as many beers as he likes. He could, theoretically, have the bartender bring him a beer every ten minutes to stack together and make his own bucket, but why bother when you can get a fresh one any time you're ready? He can also pick up a can/bottle to take back to the cabin with him anytime and store them in the mini-fridge.

No, does not include room service, but you can very easily stop on the way to your cabin and get a drink/water/beer/soda. We took a bottle of water with us back to the cabin any time we went back, as I go through water like a fish.

You can have glasses of wine with dinner, your table waiters bring them out - there's a fairly extensive wine by the glass list. If you want a bottle, they are 40% off. You can pick up a glass on the way to dinner and have another at dinner and another after dinner. Or buy a bottle and they will store it for you.

Basically - the package applies to all bars and dining rooms around the ship. Everything $10 and under. There is no limit to how many drinks of any type you can have a day (at this point). Of course, if you are completely sloshed or falling down drunk, Princess can cut you off, as the do with those who don't have the package. Otherwise, everything was included: the after dinner shots (you just don't get the shot glass unless you want to pay for it), after dinner coffee drinks, dessert wines, cocktails, beers, sodas, coffees, waters, ice cream shakes, fresh juices - everything $10 and under.

    Hope that helps.

Are you sure you can get wine by the glass in the dining rooms? I thought I read it was only good in the bars.

  8. Definitely waitlist online before arriving at the ship. We wanted a particular shore excursion once and waitlisted it. I booked another excursion just so we'd have something to do. Those tickets were in our cabin on arrival. About 2 or 3 days before the port we received the desired tickets in our cabin. :D We immediately wrote "cancelled" on the ones we didn't want and put them in the box by the shore excursion desk. Worked like a charm. Never had to wait in any lines. ;)

  9. I loved watching the reruns onboard the Ruby this week, but I was surprised at how sexual the show was! Most of that went over my head when I was a kid! Those people were getting lucky left and right lol!

Thus the name of the show!

We also enjoy seeing the reruns onboard. Wish they'd show more than one episode a day. Have also enjoyed them on MUTS! :D

  10. Mom is a Platinum on single supplement in a aft facing balcony and we are in a mini 4 cabins away on the Emerald deck on the Sapphire. She is 89 going on 90 and we need to be close. How can we be sure no one gets upgraded. Wife and I have never been on Princess as she needs a tub and I won't do without a covered balcony.

    Tim

Does your wife need the "tub" or your Mom? Be aware that a balcony cabin does not have a tub, only a small shower. The mini suite does have a tub with shower combination.

Good for you traveling with your Mom. My mom last cruised at 89 on a birthday cruise for me. We had 14 relatives and friends from 3 years old to 89! A wonderful time was had by all. :D

  11. I would pick a covered or partially covered balcony if you can afford it. One person mentioned the sunrise and the 4:30 AM start time. Another person mentioned the heat and humidity. It's wonderful to be able to duck into the cabin and cool off occasionally. Also it does rain there fairly frequently. A covered balcony is wonderful in the rain!;)

  12. Thanks, Mark - I got that. I just didn't understand her "scoring" system. She didn't score those items but did place a score next to the others - that's all.

OP - FYI - the new Disney ships don't have a internet café at all - all in-cabin wifi. Didn't miss the internet café one bit while I was on that ship.

I agree. I think having a large internet cafe is a complete waste of space. We've been on cruises where the internet cafe was a ghost town. If it weren't for the occasional need to print something, we'd never use it.

  13. Remember to fill out (and turn in) the questionaire about your flight time. Once disembarkation times are assigned, you can still ask to be placed in an earlier group (if one exists).

On these short cruises they do not send out questionaires. There isn't enough time. That's why it's important to notify the Pursers Desk of your flight schedule. There are so many walk-offs on a short cruise that it shouldn't be a problem.

  14. I'm sailing on the Star in a few days and Elua is on there. I want to make sure and get one of the loaner ukeleles for the class. Any suggestions how to get that done as soon as I get on the ship?

The first ukelele class "Introduction to Ukulele" is on the first sea day at 11:15 in the Wheelhouse Bar. They repeat it the next day, so if you don't get in one you go to the other. (I would recommend you get there a little early.) Then on the third sea day is "Ukulele Progressive Class #1" for the people who are really serious about doing it the entire cruise. There are 6 progressive classes altogether with a show at the end in the Princess Theater with the hula dancers. Very well done. There are plenty of loaner ukeleles and you can also buy a good one in the boutique (of course).

You do need tickets for the lei classes. They pass out tickets at 9:00 AM in Vines Bar on Deck 5. I walked by once and there was a good size line. Again, get there a little early. ;)

The hula classes start the 3rd sea day in the afternoon.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  15. My friend just took the Star to Hawaii and said the whole ship smelled bad. They had plumbing problems the whole time. They will never take Princess again.

    Sheila

We just got off the Star on Oct. 21st and had a wonderful time! We had no plumbing problems and NEVER smelled anything bad anywhere on the ship. I'd be curious as to where your friend's cabin was. We heard no rumors of plumbing problems.

We have done this cruise 5 times with another planned for January. :D It gets better every time we go. Princess works hard to make it a memorable experience. This time there were Hawaiian movies on MUTS, in the Princess Theater and on the stateroom TV. Every evening in the dining room there were Hawaiian selections on the menu. In the Horizon Court there was Hawaiian music playing. Elua performs in the Piazza almost nightly. I'm sure the Grand is doing these same things.

  16. We had to use the Princess insurance in 2011, 5 days before a 28 day cruise for medical reasons. It was extremely easy and we had a full refund within about 3 weeks (before the 28 day cruise was even over)! We usually get a quote from the TA and take the cheaper insurance. For our upcoming cruise the Princess insurance was only about $20 more, so we took it. We use the Princess Visa card so we figured we get double points!

  17. My daughter and neighbor joined us in March for a Sapphire Mexican cruise out of San Pedro. It went very smoothly. We were able to all embark at the same time and were able to be in our daughter's photo. Because there were so many people in the photo, they gave us like 4 copies. The ship tour was fun and the lunch (and wine) delicious! ;)

The charge ($39) is usable toward a cruise, but only if you book within 90 days or so. After the 90 days you lose it. Also it cannot be used on an existing booking.

Well worth it. My daughter wants to do it again in October when we sail.
