  1. Good day everyone!  we are embarking our first Cunard crossing June 7th.  We are experienced cruisers, just Cunard newbies!  I have carefully combed many pages of information and I carefully selected a sheltered balcony to enjoy the balcony despite any weather!

My question lays with the CPAP and provided distilled water - does Cunard provide the distilled water if I notify/request them ahead of time?  I ask since this will make me have to go out of my way on embarkation day to purchase it, most other cruise lines that we have sailed simply provide it.  So any recent experience would be gratefully appreciated.  Thank you.

  2. Good day, I am hoping to get some information pertinent to the fact that we are arriving on Celebrity and I have looked up the pier and it will be Filipstaad.  Apparently that pier is inconvenient for travelling about on public transport.  we were planning to take the ferry to the Fram museum, I am also planning to download the Oslo pass app and trigger it just before arrival!  But if someone could help me with logistics of getting to the Fram from our pier I would be grateful.  Husband can't walk huge distances, so would like to save his legs for actual sightseeing, not traversing the port/pier!  thanks to all.......

  3. Good day, we are looking at a 9 day out of Baltimore in July.  I am deliberately picking this ship due to the smaller size, I find the large ships just too crowded.  We have a 14 grandson and our son and d-I-l coming along.  We are all ok with ship, the size, the itinerary, but I am a little concerned about the teen program.  Can someone who has recently used their teen program on that particular ship give me any thoughts?  I have read some of the recent reviews and they are pretty negative, and also don’t mention the teen program.  I would appreciate any help!  Thanks.

  4. Greetings, and again, a huge thank you!  apparently my last message wasn't sent, I think I wasn't logged in! (duh).  So as of this weekend, Brittany ferries have the fast ferry doing Portsmouth/Cherbourg run for the 1st week of June.  That's bit of a shame, but still very doable.  We shall rent a car at the port (Cherbourg) and I am leaning towards making Bayeux our base and run our days from there, it seems as though the return from Cherbourg does not depart until 17:00 so that allows for a nice morning, followed by lunch, then drive to Cherbourg, return the car etc.

An idea that I would like to run by you:  take the ferry, at Cherbourg take the train to Bayeux, spend the afternoon exploring there, the next day do a full day tour with Overlord (perhaps) and then the following day pick up a rental car and keep it till the end at Cherbourg!

I could split my time in France and do 2 nights/2 nights.......but we don't like any less than 2 nights anywhere if we can help it........Many thanks........

  5. A huge thank you for this great information!  I am now thinking Saturday and Sunday in Portsmouth, leave Monday for the fast ferry, stay 4 nights in France , rent a car, tour around, and return on the fast ferry Friday.  Stay in Portsmouth and Saturday perhaps train it to Arundel Castle and village for the day!  Return to Portsmouth for the overnight and train into Southampton Sunday mid day for Cunard!   Does that sound good, am I missing something Or everything?  Thanks again!

  6. Many thanks to all on the messaging!  and as far as the Maritime Club, let me explain a bit!  I am/was British, I came to the US many years ago - however, you just can't beat it (the British) out of me!  so obviously, we do tend to visit the UK.  This trip is many legged:  we will arrive to visit family in Kent, we will then come to Southampton for a Celebrity Baltic cruise, upon our return to Southampton, we will spend a couple of days in Portsmouth (more on that in a minute) and then take a ferry to France to tour the Normandy beaches and area.  We will then return to Portsmouth/Southampton to board QM2 for a transatlantic crossing to NY and then home to the NJ Shore area!

Husband is a retired mariner.  Merchant Marine professional - therefore, the love of the sea.  We frequently holiday in areas offering a rich maritime history.  The Maritime Club, when I first came upon it, sounded very much like the Mariners House located in Boston, MA.  The Mariners House has a rich history, but nowadays is a very low cost, very modest hotel (with a terrific breakfast) located in the most ideal spot in Boston, the big HOWEVER is that you must be within the industry to be able to stay there which is fair enough.  So that was why I had the interest in the Maritime Club in Portsmouth. I prefer that style of hotel/accommodations to the standard Holiday Inn, etc.   I have absolutely no reason not to book it and shall do very promptly. I was really interested in the latest opinions since John Bull frequently offers heaps of invaluable help, here on Cruise Critic.

We have not had the opportunity yet to really spend a good couple of days in Portsmouth, and this is an ideal time for it.  I also plan to buy the full visit tickets to the Dockyard along with the Mary Rose...

Any and all recommendations, advice etc on my trip is eagerly sought and sincerely appreciated!

Your reason for staying there, totally rings familiar bells with us, we can and do attend many industry related events!!!!  nuff said!

  7. Greetings, for some reason, I cannot send a message, my account say 'you can send 0 messages per day' - hence my reason for starting a new topic.  John Bull had specifically said that he would be staying at the Maritime Club in Portsmouth, and I am eager to hear of his opinion.  It is my understanding that there has been some refurb'ing of the hotel.  If necessary, you can answer to me at my account (I believe)..........

As always, any information or response to request is totally appreciated!  regards........

  8. Greetings, well apparently the site I was using this morning, was not the correct site!  and just now I was able to see up to March 2020, so that is a good thing.  I shall indeed keep trying since I believe there is a time limit to booking, I believe that they (Flybe) are very strict on the sizes, weights etc?  so I shall be sure to monitor that, and I suppose, just have an extra bag on hand, if needed, to pack extras and just pay for it.  I certainly appreciate the assistance, and should anyone have any tips for the airline, please do let me know!  Again, my appreciation!

  9. Good day, I am currently reviewing some similar options for May 2020.  We would arrive back into Southampton and would like to go to Amsterdam.  Am I correct in thinking that Southampton airport does not service Amsterdam?  I keep keep getting a no flight available error.  Otherwise I am happy to take Eurostar and was trying to think the most efficient way to St Pancras.  My initial thought, if I can’t fly locally, was to take the train to Waterloo and then take a taxi to st pancras rather than struggle with the underground transfers with luggage.  I am happy and grateful for any and all suggestions!

  10. Greetings, I seem to recall that last year at the dockyard, there was an actual board with a list of where the minivans went, along with the price of each journey.  Has anyone got a picture of that price list please?  I know the cost to horseshoe is $7 p.p. And last year I gave the driver a couple more to take us to Warwick long bay to do the beach walk, but this year, I am interested in the listing to decide all my options before arriving into Bermuda.  Many thanks!

  11. Greetings. We just took this flight two weeks ago.  We were in business and it was our first flight on Air France and we simply enjoyed everything about it.  The flight attendants were kind, polite and very attentive.  The food was very good and the wine selections were good.  In fact, they totally blew away American Airlines in business class.  Given an equal choice, I will certainly choose Air France over AA any day!

  12. Greetings, we too, are on this voyage and super excited!  I suspect that you, like me, thought there was more time in Easter Island prior to the actual cruise - I caught onto that at some point and made the deviation request so that we could have 2 nights prior in Easter Island.  Might I suggest that you try contacting some of the guides for the island, perhaps you can arrange a couple of hours for a private tour?

Accordingly the flight arrives during the mid-day time frame and we don't set sail until 21:00.

  13. Be very careful when recommending that a hotel has an elevator. Many hotels in Europe/Venice are composed of several attached buildings, and not all parts have elevators. We also stayed at the Olimpia, and our portion did NOT have an elevatoe, and our room was on the third floor. Fortunately, the porters carried our luggage up the stairs. We also stayed at the Hotel Benvecchiati and not all parts of it were reached by elevators.

Incidentally, the 'little' bridge across the canal to the Olimpia was the deal breaker for us. We each had a 25" suitcase as well as backpack and rollaboard. That trip revealed to us that henceforth we would only travel with carryon luggage. If it doesn't fit in that, it doesn't go. (By the time we got there, we had already been on train, plane & sea for a month). Although the Olimpia may be one of the closest to the terminal, getting to it convinced us that we would not enjoy dragging our bags back across Piazzale Roma to the People Mover, and from there the long trek to the terminal. We took a water taxi. EM

Hi, we are going next week. After several trips to Venice and lugging my case over the bridge by Piazzale Roma I was delighted to find the AC Venezia hotel which is part of the Marriott chain. It has been renovated and has elevators. It is also located within the Piazzale Roma and is easily located by water taxi from the airport. Upon my return in a month or so, I will do a review. I am reasonably hopeful of the conveniences since I have emailed the hotel manager several times.

  14. Greetings. I am trying to figure something out. My dh has serious knee issues so I was thinking of skipping the walls. We have one day on the constellation in early October. Could we take a ferry to and from cavtav. Have a nice few hours there and then see some of Dubrovnik nice old town without the walls and then return to the cruise. I appreciate any and all assistance.

  15. Greetings. We are on Davina coming back to the USA in October from Civitavecchia. I was about to purchase a laundry option when I noticed that in small print it said something about not valid with YC offers etc. so my question is does anyone know if YC gets a coupon or some special offers for laundry? I appreciate any and all help!

  16. We were on the Summit this May to Bermuda. We had a lot of OBC, both Celebrity and TA issued. We used OBC to pay the daily service charges automatically, and we purchased a large amount of alcohol (we were driving to and from the ship/port) and we actually had OBC leftover. The leftover was about $76 and it was immediately credited to our credit card!

Super happy all the way around!
