  1. Greetings, I am trying (and failing miserably) to get as much information as possible. I am very interested in the Explorer, specifically the Easter Island/Papeete itineraries.

For those lucky people that have already gone - has there been any issues in missing any of the ports (?) - I ask since so many people say that it is rare to get on Easter Island. Even though, it shows as embarkation at Easter Island - the one TA I just spoke with, said that it might not happen due to weather? I pointed out that this was embarkation so I assumed it would happen!!!!! she disagreed - was she right?

I am also in the process of trying to secure a knowledgeable TA to assist with this trip. We have travelled on expeditions to Antarctica twice before and didn't have as difficult a time gathering information as we are finding for this particular voyage.

If anyone can help me,, I would be extremely grateful! Many thanks in advance........

  2. Greetings, OP here - first - many thanks to everyone for their input! I was pretty sure that it would be rather easy, and I have ascertained so especially since it is NYC and customs would be on-hand as first US port of call anyway.

I have booked YC for the Transatlantic October 2018 and obviously intend to disembark in NYC rather than Florida.

We have never done the YC before, or even for that fact, not MSC. So this will be a real treat for us.

I booked through a TA and he is about to the get the form for the early disembarkation. I will come back here and update everyone as soon as it is under way etc. I am going to have other MSC questions and I will post at the main thread.

I just wanted to provide a large thank you to everyone, and an assurance that I will follow thru.....

  3. Greetings, I have been searching to no avail !!! we were thinking of the MSC Divina TA from Rome to Miami in October 2018. The port prior to Miami is NYC (close to our home), the port prior would be Bermuda. Does anyone know if we can disembark in NYC instead of going to Miami and then having to fly back? I would appreciate any and all comments on the feasibility of doing so/and how to do so.............many thanks....(ps - it says on the itinerary, Red Hook for Manhattan, but I believe from a search on the pier activity, that it would actually be NYC)..........

  4. We winter in Florida and I used to join my wife in water aerobics. Two years ago I started getting what I thought was a rash on my chest and then it started to get all over my upper body. I also power walked 4 miles a day and sweat a lot. The bumps looked just like insect bites and itched something awful. Went to a dermatologist and she was stumped and without me spending quite a lot on a biopsy she gave me a prescription for some ointment which helped.

Determined to get to the bottom of it I discontinued all activity for 2 weeks and the rash went away then resumed the pool and no walks and it returned.

It was the pool. Not sure what they use but some form of chlorine. I learned one other person in the community had the same problem.

I had done quite a bit of reading on the internet but had never come across someone who had the same problem from the pool. So much for my sleuthing skills as after determining it was the pool and searching for a remedy I came across others that also got a rash fro the chemicals, but it does seem rare.

Thanks for posting this - people don't realize just how awful this can be. I started getting rashes from my own hot tub - blamed the hubby for not keeping it clean, went to dermatologist for treatment. Over the years this has gotten to be so bad, that i do not go in hot tubs anymore, (real shame since it was my one big relaxation). But honestly, the rashes had become so frequent, so severe, almost like shingles - I was just raw! and going on steroids each time to aleviate the problem was not a good idea. So, if this is you, just try to avoid the hot tubs - or, you can shower first, stay only 15 mins, and then shower promptly and change into clean clothes! good luck.....

  5. Greetings, I booked this 9/27/18 cruise back in April and got a nice price on an o/v room. I had since decided that I would prefer a balcony room - each time I have looked, the balcony prices seem to have gone totally crazy!!!!

Am I missing something? or am I really looking too early and the balconies will come back to a decent cost?

I am about to look at the other reviews, even tho I am already excited for this trip! actually had it booked last year and had to cancel it........

  6. I don't often lose my temper, however! We were on an nuclear transatlantic this past November and sometimes you just get fed up with people being jerks and self entitled. So my husband and I had left the breakfast buffet and were awaiting the elevator. A lady came along with a wheeled type chair and oxygen and was rather frail, so when the lift arrived I stepped so that I could keep the door held open while my husband tried to assist this elderly and frail lady, but no, mr entitled rushes out from the buffet with 2 full plates of food and a bowl of oatmeal. Of course, because he is special he shoved my husband out the way and all but pushed the elderly lady over. I mean, lets face it, why should someone receive some assistance while someone is trying to get to their room with plates of food!

I just couldn't stand it, so I snarled, yes snarled at him for his rude and callous disregard of an elderly and in need of assistance lady, and also for shoving my husband. I also informed him that usual manners dictate to await your turn to enter the elevator.

Obviously he was taken aback by my words, and then recovered enough to say for one of us to press his floor number for him - well now! I looked / glared him grimly in the eye and asked if he wanted me to help him understand how he might achieve a free hand so that he could press his floor himself because I was willing to let him ride to down to h@ll and back with his plates and bowl of oatmeal that were begging to be flung in his face!

I refused to press any floor buttons as did my husband, and finally the jerk apologized to the elderly lady. Obviously this story makes me angry all over again just retelling it.

  7. Greetings - I am hoping that someone can chime in and help me out. Myself and DH have booked 2 cabins for a summer family cruise. (son, daughter-in-law and grandson)

The two of us are platinum members and the kids are not, they are seasoned cruisers but not on Norwegian. In reviewing the tier benefits today, I thought it would be a good idea to swap out my husband and son in the cabins (in name only).

Can anyone let me know if they have successfully done this! Many thanks to all...........

  8. Hi, my husband and I were on the Getaway in September and did the Jolly Roger Cat........these guys were absolutely terrific! we felt very safe, very well cared for, well fed and watered (rum).

We are both scuba divers and found this snorkeling to be really, really good. It was a great day out!

  9. Hi, we were on the Getaway and loved it (kids will love it), so many fun things! as far as flights and hotels, do look at Ft. Lauderdale - it is a nice place with many decently priced hotels etc. You could also just rent a car and drive down to Miami the next day (most likely much cheaper than car services). The two car rentals are Avis and Hertz, you drop off at the designated office (downtown) and then they shuttle you over to the pier (no extra cost).

Just be very sure which drop off location you are using! We did this in September and it worked out great.....

  10. Greetings, we were here just two short weeks ago. We had booked the Jolly Roger Catamaran and Snorkel through the ship (I had obc to burn).

If I had not booked thru the ship - I found out that as you get off the ship and walk to the parking lot area there are a LOT of vendors (professional) to book shore excursions independently. Most of the excursions offered there are the same as the ship excursions........

    Enjoy your cruise!

  11. Greetings, I just saw this on TripAdvisor.........

    6. Re: New Policy from Bermuda Tourism Authority--

    Apr 28, 2016, 4:22 PM

    Effective 4/27/16:

The Visitor Information Centre in Dockyard now has access to provide visitors a full range of transportation options out of Dockyard. The recent decision by the Ministry of Tourism & Transport to limit certain kinds of fares has been revised upon feedback from visitors.

Staff at the Visitor Information Centre in Dockyard are pleased to be able to offer a number of options to suit visitor needs:

    • Private shuttle services offer round trip dock-to-beachside collection and drop-off service at the convenience of the visitor’s schedule

    • One and two-day public transportation passes, as well as single-ride bus fares, are available for purchase as alternatives.

We regret the frustration caused temporarily, and look forward to servicing all visitors and encouraging exploration throughout the island.

  12. Hi, we sail to Bermuda every year! the choice for us, comes down to price/amenities. we are Elite on Celebrity so get a lot of freebies - but sometimes the NCL price wins out (comparing apples to apples of course). However, if I had children, then I would lean much more heavily towards the Breakaway.....

Both ships have the same itinerary (days at sea/days on shore), - you don't say when you are going.......obviously as the summer approaches, both ships get completely packed!

Whichever you choose, you will have a great vacation!
