  1. Currently on deck 18. Has been very quiet!

    Mary,

If you are in a YC balcony on 18 can you confirm that there are 2 US style electrical outlets at the desk and 2 Euro style outlets. It's hard to see any Euro ones on Erollers pics but I think they are possibly behind the phone in the picture.

Also, has your Butler been good? Are you port or starboard?

Do you know if they have Splenda in the YC?

Thanks in advance. Enjoy the rest of your cruise!

  2. A few years ago, I had my first experience with the UBP on the Breakaway to Bermuda. We had a great cruise and I really enjoyed the wines by the glass. I would usually get Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc and pay the $1.20 extra. But lots if good choices.

I liked that cruise so much, I went on the inaugural year sailing of the Escape 6 months later, also with UBP. I was really looking forward to the wine bar on the the ship having seen the menu from the transatlantic with at least 30 wines by the glass, most under the UBP limit.

I was very disappointed to board and find out that the same 8 wines (as already posted here as list #2), were the only wines you could get by the glass at every bar and restaurant. Even the wine bar! With it's sophisticated nitrogen system not really being used. It was the quietest venue on the ship. I would go there to get a beer since they always had nothing to do. I'm sure this change had to do with the prevalence of the UBP but kind of left a bad taste in my mouth (both literally and figuratively).

  3. So one crime a few years ago should impact people's decisions? And robberies against tourists happen anywhere there are lots of tourists. Not at all unique to Nassau. I'll take Nassau over large parts of Chicago, Baltimore or a whole host of American cities any day.

It's not just one incident. It's just that the visual image of a couple of guys jumping out of the bushes with guns to rob a Segway tour of cruise ship passengers is stuck in my mind.

Like the missing school teacher tourist raped and murdered on Cabbage beach on paradise island and the many women (including minors) sexually assaulted on jet ski tours.

You are correct it is indeed similar to bad areas in many large US cities. That's what people need to know. That it's like being in downtown Baltimore is similar cities.

  4. Those dire warnings are issued frequently. Nothing new. I would not be at all concerned. We went to Nassau on Seaside last month and nothing appeared any different than in previous visits (we have had Nassau as a port of call at least 5 times). We walked around the shopping district, made the hike to Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle, had a very nice lunch in town and made it over to Junkanoo Beach and I was not murdered once. ;p;p

Nassau is a practical port for cruises (its practically in Florida) and has very reasonable port fees.

That all may be true but I recall that a few years ago, Carnival passengers were robbed at gunpoint while on a Segway tour in downtown Nassau. That doesn't usually happen in most ports.

  5. Next time after the muster drill, watch how many people push aside those in wheel chairs or scooters and make them wait until every last person has made their way back to their cabins....NO one offering to let them on any elevator.....
Let's just hope that in the case of an actual emergency muster, this kind of behavior wouldn't happen!

  6. Question regarding dinner. Did you have a usual or expected time for dinner as well as a set table and waiter? Or was it anytime? Also how long did your dinner usually take . Which time did you usually go to the nightly entertainment?

We will probably want to go to the 815 show so wondering how early to do dinner.

  7. Thanks everyone! I much appreciate your suggestions. There was a poster who just returned from Seaside that posted a great photo of his folding drawer with magnetic hook contraption and it looked genius. He was kind enough to tell me the hooks he used, but I can't find the post using the search on cruise critic.

Keep an eye out Kalsal.... If the original poster sees this he has a great picture of exactly how he set it all up. A great fix for any area that lacks storage.

I believe the previous poster was using Strongman magnetic hooks. On Amazon.

    Also found this.

Full disclosure... have not used yet but I will starting 3/24.

Even if they only hold half of what the manufacturer states, two of them should theoretically hold 44 pounds, which is a heck of a lot of clothes.

I believe each magnet will hold 44 lbs so two should hold up what you want.

  9. Not sure I would ever use the ship laundry on anything "nice" though. We did send our shirts and dresses out to be pressed on NCL's Escape and were happy with the results. But don't want all my stuff, underwear and $75 dress shirt thrown in the same machine on "hot" with industrial strength soap. Just ask my wife how picky I am. I tend to wash my work/dress clothes myself even at home as I am afraid how my own wife will treat them. lol
I agree with you on the nice clothes. We mostly just send out underwear and t-shirts. Sometimes just don't like to pack dirty stuff for the trip home.

  10. Let's say it's formal night and you notice that your trousers got all wrinkled in your suitcase. Wouldn't it be great if you could just walk down the hall and use the iron in the self-service laundry to fix the problem in 5 minutes? Or how about if you're a woman and you've got some super-expensive clothing item that you literally do not trust anyone else to launder? Wouldn't it be nice if you had a self-service laundry facility available to you?

The only reason that some cruise lines don't offer them is that they take up space that could be used for cabins instead. The more cabins, the more income the cruise line generates with each cruise. Multiply that by 52 cruises a year over the lifetime of the ship, and they lose a lot of potential income by putting in self serve laundry facilities. But, they're making the decision based on what makes them more money, not by what is convenient for their passengers.

Sorry, but I'm not convinced. My wrinkled stuff gets steamed in the bathroom with the shower on hot. I can't imagine a lady with an expensive garment using a self serve laundromat. Or hardly anyone else hanging around the laundromat waiting for their stuff to be done. And how many self serve laundries would a ship have to have for one to be right down the hall? One on each deck?

I like the NCL approach where you can send a bag of dirty stuff out for a set price regardless of what you put in it.
