  1. OK we paid $1400 (including taxes/port fees) for two for a balcony guarantee for 5-night Indy cruise.   Got assigned 9242 2 weeks after reserving so no upgrade there.  Since then got two Royal Up email offers.  The second time I offered $300 total ($150 each) for a Junior Suite upgrade.  I JUST received an email tonight saying our offer was not accepted.

  2. We've purchased BOGO many times and we have tried a few times on a few different ships to change that first night and it was not possible.  It might be easier for them to change the second night which is always formal night?  I would assume there is a big demand for specialty dining that night.   But I wouldn't count on it.  It's a great deal, just enjoy it.

I tested ours on our TV at home first because I was burned several times by other devices that claimed to work but didn't. I just unplugged the HDMI cable from the back of our Apple TV and plugged in the dock, and it worked perfectly. One thing that I forgot to mention is there is also a lightning port on the dock which allows you to keep the iPad charging while you stream to the TV.:classic_biggrin:

Thanks Orville.  My DH actually tried it at home tonight on our non-apple TV and it worked perfectly.  Had his iphone plugged into it too.  Good stuff.

I know there have been several threads on this topic, but the search function doesn't find anything useful so I'm posting my results here. After trying several different connection devices that didn't work, I finally found one that worked perfectly. All I needed to do was unplug the HDMI cable from the cabin TV, and replace it with an Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter . That plugged directly into the lightning port on my iPad and I was able to stream from Netflix, Amazon Prime and the Roku channel with no problems. The only thing I had to add was my own male-to-male HDMI cable (I "borrowed" the one that came with my Apple TV device). It was nice to watch my local network news in the morning, and CNBC in the afternoon as well.

Thank you so much for posting this.  My husband just bought one of these and I was doubtful it would work.  Now he is thrilled to know this will work.

First off, I really liked most aspects of the ship in general. Booking on the newest/largest ship in the fleet I did expect it to be at least be to a certain standard. Eventually I would've settled for even an average standard. My first experience on the ship was going to the English pub to get a drink. My total wait was over 20 mins even though less than 10 people were in the bar. Other people in the bar told me they had to wait similar or longer. Throughout the whole trip bar service was extremely slow, and most bars closed at midnight or earlier which I've almost never heard of. Bartenders refused to tell me when they were closing and some bars just seemed to close at whim. After 3 nights I asked to get my drink package cancelled as it's clearly a scam as drinks are only available for 9-12 hours at best and they refused. I would like to start a class action suit against them. I will NEVER go on a Royal cruise again. The food is sub-par anyways but why have to deal with this $70/day drink scam when I have to spend 10 hours of waiting time per cruise just lining up for overpriced drinks?

We experienced a similar experience on the Anthem a couple of years ago.  The cruise actually started off with one bartender to 200 people in Two70.  It didn't get much better from there.  We are not night owls these days and enjoy a drink or two during the day and it was difficult to find a bar that was open inside the ship.  We ended up going outside to the pool to get drinks most of the time.  Since the advent of the drink package we have never been asked if we'd like a drink anywhere on any RCCL ship except in the MDR or specialty restaurants.  And there are scant bartenders when the bars are open.  We never purchase the drink package.  The difficulty getting a drink and the lessening food quality really has us rethinking our decision to stick with RCCL.  We are sailing on the Indy this coming weekend and giving it another try.

Are most of y’all getting emails around 1 month prior? Just curious about when I need to stalk my email.

I am wondering the same thing.  My TA told me today that most people don't hear until 3 days before sailing.  But reading this thread it seems like most people got their offers way earlier than that.

We booked a balcony guarantee for $714 per person (including all taxes and port fees) and bid $150 more per person for a junior suite.  We sail in 6 days...  I will report in if we receive an upgrade.

wow, some of you on here got it for $40/person!  my cruise planner is at $50/person for the BOGO 2-night package right now....guess i'll be waiting till that drops!

I got BOGO for $30 per person three weeks ago for our 5-night Indy cruise after originally booking it for $42.50 per person.  Just keep watching, it will most likely drop before you cruise.

  10. We've done the BOGO on a few ships.  Have done Chops and Jamies and Wonderland on the BOGO.  I always go to one of the specialty restaurants the day I board the ship and find out what restaurants have been chosen for us and then I change them if necessary.  Usually can't change the time though.

Oh, also wanted to mention that we have always paid $30 per person for BOGO but when we booked our cruise this year it was $42.50 per person.   I booked it anyway and kept watching the prices.  It went down to $30 per person for about a month so I cancelled my first order which was very easy to do online and then rebooked minutes later.  Worked perfectly.  So keep an eye on prices if you are not happy with what you paid.

  11. I wonder the same thing.  Although we've sailed RCCL many times, we've never sailed an Oasis Class ship.   We love the Radiance, Voyager, and Freedom class ships.  We tried the Anthem (Quantum Class) two years ago and did not enjoy it.  In our opinion, The promenade was far too small for the amount of passengers, the three separate dining rooms were lackluster with low ceilings, no staircases, didn't feel special at all.  And we had an extremely hard time getting a drink on that ship because the bars had odd hours and when they were open there would be only one bartender for many many people.   We showed up for our North Star reservation no less than 3 times and it was cancelled each time.  I don't like the pressure of having to have reservations ahead of time for everything, that's just not the flow I want on vacation.  We thought it would be a nice ship for families and kids since there was lots to do for them but decided it wasn't for us.

I always wanted to try Oasis class but since sailing the Anthem I am definitely gun shy.

Do you like sun? if so you will get NO SUN on those middle aft JS's on deck 7..like being in a tunnel............Trust me go for deck 10.

How many persons in the cabin?

Love sun but unfortunately sun does not like us.  One of the reasons we loved both JS's on deck 7.  Didn't feel like a tunnel though.  Also loved 7708 which was super shaded.  I've read deck 10 is also shaded by the Windjammer hanging overhead.  Just the two of us this cruise.

  13. Hello All,  Looking at some upcoming cruises on Freedom class ships and there are some aft cabins available on decks 7 and 10.  We have stayed in aft cabins on deck 7 and really loved the location.  The superstructure didn't bother us at all.  I know deck 10 would have a bit better view though.  My questions are:  Is the deck size smaller/larger on deck 10 versus 7?  Is there more or less shade on deck 10 versus 7?  How about the privacy -  can anyone look down on deck 10?  Is the Windjammer a noise problem?  Thank you all aft lovers 🙂
