bowe will be staying at The Riverside, I have a reservation at YOLO but it is getting mixed reviews, is Boathouse better?

Hello neighbor, I just moved to Scottsdale from the downtown Fort Lauderdale / Las Olas area. 🙂

Boathouse is very good; if you like mussels, theirs are some of the best that I have had.  They have a great happy hour at the bar from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm as well.

If you are into Happy Hours ...

El Camino has a daily HH from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  $5 margaritas and $3 tacos (at the bar).  It gets incredibly noisy, so I sit at the side bar seats on the alley (towards the back parking lot).

Louie Bossi has a daily HH from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm (at the bar).  $2 off all drinks and 1/2 off all pizza.  On Wednesday nights, it is 1/2 off bottles of wine (under $100) with purchase of an entree.

Rivertail has HH Monday - Friday from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm / 7:00 pm.  Beer and wine specials and $0.99 oysters.

Eddie V has HH Monday - Thursday from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm (at the bar and bar tops).  Nice cocktail specials and really good food options.

Tacocraft (not on Las Olas) has Taco Tuesday specials:  $8 margaritas and $4 tacos.  All other days, their HH is good too.

After dinner, head over to Vinos Wine Bar.  The wine bar itself is nice, and there is a cozy speakeasy towards the back exit, through a side door.

  2. Well, Lauderdale by the Sea is pretty much a ghost town.  If you’re a frequent visitor, you know that the majority of businesses are mom and pop, independently owned establishments.

As soon as the beaches and bars closed, the spring breakers finally got the message and left town.

Restaurants are open for limited hours for take out or delivery.

Due to cancellations, our vacation rental is vacant, but this quiet time allows us to make some updates, do some landscaping, etc ... and we have the pool to ourselves!

Since my office is closed, I’ve been working from home and feel I have a more healthy work / life balance between working, exercising, cooking, etc.

No, we are not staying at the Victoria Park, but will check it out  for the future. We will be at an Airbnb a few blocks away.  We will be going to Shuck and Dive for sure.  Thank you very much.

    Other favorite restaurants close by:

Serafina:  Lovely authentic Italian (Sicilian) restaurant along the Middle River (NE 20th Ave, about 1 block south of Sunrise Blvd)

Canyon Southwest Cafe:  Next door to Gateway Theater.  Check out their website for their daily specials.  They have a great daily happy hour from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm and other fun specials during the week.

    Brgr Stop:  Fantastic Burgers!

  4. Little tip about SOBE Wine & Food Festival Grand Tasting ... check Craig's List at least 1 week prior to the event.  There is usually a number of people selling their tickets below face value.  Legit ... we have gone each of the last 3 years and saved approx $50 per ticket.  Some people try to sell them outside the event as well.

  5. I would say as long as you're at the pier for check-in by 1:30 pm, you should be fine.

I am not sure what time Glory sails, but I believe boarding for most cruise lines closes at least 90 minutes before departure.  Perhaps someone else who has experience with the Carnival sailings can answer more accurately.

  6. I have not stayed at the TRYP, but went to a networking event there 2 weeks ago, so I cannot comment on the accommodations, but the lobby and bar was very nice.

Self-Parking was a bit of a mess, as the parking lot is very small, but there is valet parking.

  7. Saw the Cruise Industry News blurb/video on VV's 'wellness at sea' emphasis. All I know is that, I'll be happy if I can get a decent wrap or massage -- without having to fight-off a 'hard' sales-pitch for products. I gave up on RCCL ships' spas, a long time ago! :(

I agree, however Steiner is operating the spa onboard; they are the same concessionaire as onboard RCCL.

  8. Came across your post and it brought back memories of at trip to Miami many years ago. We were looking for an upscale restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and asked the concierge for a suggestion . He quickly said " The Forge "

I'm not sure that is as good today as it was then but will say we have been to many of the restaurants you mentioned and would rate as good or better than anyone of them.

You may want to check it out. It is located on First St in Miami Beach

The Forge is located on 41st Street (central Miami Beach).

  9. On the way to the Keys, stop in the Homestead / Redlands area. There is a great DIY route to drive around to visit a number of little gems.

    My fave places to stop:

Robert is Here (usually my 1st stop - milk shakes, fruit stand, local goods, etc.)

Fruit & Spice Park (take the tram tour - 1,000's of different fruits and spices from around the world)

    RF Orchids

Knaus Berry Farm and Bakery (baked goods - open November - April)

Schnebly Winery (wine made from local fruit (avocados, mangoes, etc.) and craft beer)

Here is the link for more info, so that you can plan your route: http://www.redlandriot.com/Rallye.html

From Homestead / Redlands, you can continue on your way to the Keys, or you can do the reverse and make stops along the way, on the way back north.

    Key Largo:

Blonde Giraffe Key Lime Pie Co. - get a whole pie or a slice on a stick.

    Alabama Jack's (lunch)

    Islamorada:

Robbie's (feed the tarpon, local crafts vendors).

Unfortunately, the Tiki Bar at the Postcard Inn (formerly Holiday Isle) was wiped out during Hurricane Irma, but it is being rebuilt.

  10. CRUST!!!!! If you don't LOVE it, I will pay for it:

One of the best restaurants I have been to in my life. It goes back and forth to #1 and #2 as the best restaurant in Miami..on Trip Advisor.

I agree, it is a great little gem of a restaurant. I believe it is on the Miami Spice list too!
