  1. Same here. We pricelined one for FLL airport and got one with a free shuttle to the hotel from the airport. Turns out to be Marriott for like $85 OTD. Then using MJS shuttle for $13 pp the next day to the Port of Miami. Done this two years now and I wouldn't do it any other way. I think with that many people you might even get it for $10 pp.

  2. If I remember correctly there is an outdoor mall with little boutique shops about 5 minute walk out of the pier area. Can't miss it, down the road and on your left. I believe the complex was yellow. Not too far past the main gate security checkpoint.

  3. I take a couple of the fabric reusable grocery type bags. They take up no room and I use them as a beach bag or just tuck them in a pocket when going ashore. Also, my LED votive candle to use as a night lite. Third must have is a water bottle --great to have by the pool, in your room, and at the beach.

  4. That's what I said above... Probably one of the worst days/weeks of the year to fly out of FLL. Anyone who says to do it is probably thinking of another time of the year, any of which would be better than the OPs disembarkation day.

Something to keep in mind for that week: if you miss your flight, there will be no other seats available on any other flights for possibly days. It'll be that busy. So plan very carefully.

Then I give you credit for stating it first. Okay? I was merely identifying why it was a busy week. I have traveled that week, and not being an educator or having kids, I was oblivious that it was a busy travel week. Maybe expanding up your broad statement will help someone else.

  5. My sister had a rash. Her dermatologist said it was dermatitis from rubbing up on a poisonous plant. He told her it was a "leaf mark". It's gone away gradually but is still faintly there after the bleaching cream he prescribed. She got it in Nassau! She went to the beach about a mile down on the right if you are looking at shore from the cruise ship.

  6. Isn't that the end of President's week? Many schools have off and I'm sure will be down south. No way would I do that on a Sunday on a huge vacation week and with those ships in port.

  7. We flew the 1st leg from Ohare to Hong Kong on United. second leg was on Cathay. How I wish it was reversed and the 16 hour flight was on Cathay instead of just the 2 hour flight....if you can get on Cathay for 16 hours, do it.

  8. If Cathay Pacific is an option then go with them! Best airline ever! They were high tech and had a lot more room in coach. That was a flight between Hong Kong and Manila, but not sure if they fly from US. Staff was great. That was 7 years ago, but it was a great flight.

  9. And ditto about others thoughts on Barbados and Dominica. Not really a beach in Dominica, but you should see the Champagne reef for a few minutes. Best thing there is to do a tour that has a stop to Champagne. It's a beautiful island, but no beaches. I have never found snorkeling in St. Maarten. Rent a car and go to Orient Beach in the morning and Maho in the afternoon.

  10. Tortola is a a great stop! Please consider DIY trip to The Baths of Virgin Gorda! We got off the boat, bought ferry tickets to VG and took a cab to the baths with our snorkeling equipment. We have found our yellow inflatable snorkel vests to be a great investment. We were some of the first on the beach so we claimed our little spot of paradise and just swam, laid out, and snorkeled all day. You don't have to go our far from the beach at all to see fish. In fact, the snorkel tour boats come right up to the beach and drop their people right in front of you! So get there early and get your snorkel on! Went through the baths, over to Devils Beach. It was one of the best trips.

  11. Booking dot com is one of the few sites I've seen that let's you put in the number of people in a room. I used to it to find rooms to accommodate 3 for Europe, which were few and far between. So good luck for 5. But this site also includes apartment hotels, which is what we used to accommodate the 3 of us.

  12. Actually if you have a Discover card it's very well accepted throughout Europe since they bought out Diners Club. We found this to be true traveling EASTERN Europe last year. But we also carried our Capital One Mastercard because it has no transaction fees. I found all three to be widely accepted.

  13. Rent a car!!! It was super easy. We were one of the first off the ship, the rental place (hertz I think), was right at the end of the pier. We drove all over St. Martin and St. Maarten with no problem. We went to Marigot, a flea market there, lunch, etc. And ended at Maho to watch the planes come in. Just make sure you reserve online before hand and join their loyalty club so you get to the front of the line. It was super easy to drive around there and even with insurance it was only about $50.
