  1. Different home ports, too.  Elation is out of Port Canaveral and Sunrise is out of Miami.  I don't know if that might influence your decision or not.  Either way, you'll be on a ship and that's what it's all about!

I know one shouldn't be negative about what someone might like to eat...but "rabbit pastry puff"...NOPE....CAN'T DO IT......

Is it just the idea of eating rabbit that is off-putting to you?  My first husband and I raised rabbits for meat and made our newlywed budget stretch with good tasting protein.  Give it a try.  It might surprise you and I hope to hear that you enjoyed it!

It's not even a choice.  You can go to the Caribbean anytime on multiple mass market cruise lines on various lengths from 3 days and up. Can't say the same about Hawaii.  And Oahu is nothing like Kona and Hilo on the Big Island or Maui or Kauai.  Would choose Hawaii in a heartbeat.

If you're leaving from the East coast, try to get a last in first out flight going west that stops in LA or SF.  This way you break up the long flight with your overnight airport stay and you're refreshed and your body will take the 6 hour time change easier.

This is all the answer you need.  Add to that the fact that so many Caribbean islands aren't open for tourists right now.  I would go with the Hawaii cruise!

Right, so why didn't the emergency generators  located up on deck that are enough to keep toilets, ventilation, and elevators working kick in?  Or did it and it wasn't really a poop cruise, I thought they called it that cuz people couldn't flush?

As I recall, the poop cruise was the reason that all ships got the emergency generators.  They didn't have them before that.

    In writing wins .

Just shows you even the employees don't know what is going on..

I got insurance from Allianz for full cost including covid coverage for under $200..

Allianz is THE BEST!  I will never use any other travel insurance.  I had two significant medical problems while traveling and they came through big time.

Since I've never had medical issues on a ship (knock on wood), I would simply want to know if this is the normal process. How was it treated previously for a heart problem? A burst appendix? A stroke? Medical issues happen all the time and if Carnival followed their normal procedures when disembarking a medical patient then I don't know if it's realistic to expect a different scenario when it's covid vs. other medical issues.

    ScottsSweetie,

I was disembarked from the Carnival Pride with a medical issue on a Journeys cruise in Grand Turk in 2017.  There was no demand for money up front from the Grand Turk Hospital and my travel insurance, Allianz, paid the hospital directly and arranged for my repatriation on a private medivac jet.  I was never asked for a penny by anyone.  That's my experience.  Since I have not traveled since the Covid outbreak I have not shopped for travel insurance, so I, as you, don't know if it's realistic to expect a different scenario when it's covid vs. other medical issues.

  7. Navy Cruiser,

I don't have any constructive advice for you, but I just wanted to let you know that I understand your frustration.  I would take the approach that had the cruise happened on any one of the 3 previously reserved dates, Mother would have certainly taken the cruise.  Now, however, she is unable to do so, and because SHE didn't postpone the cruise until she was no longer able to go, would they please show some understanding in the need to change to a different passenger.

    Good luck.

  8. The best cruise my husband and I have ever had was Thanksgiving 2018 on the Horizon in a Havana cabin.  Our friends also had a Havana cabin, and we spent all day every day back there in the Havana area.  We enjoyed it soooo much!  It was never crowded.  It had the most comfortable seating areas in the shade where we could sit, read, and converse, then we could take a dip in the pool or the hot tubs whenever we wanted.  Even when semi-full it was never loud or rowdy.  The Havana Bar was right there so it was easy to get whatever you wanted whenever you wanted.  We absolutely loved it.

  9. We are also an older couple and we cruised with another older couple on the Horizon on that 8-day southern itinerary.  We both had Havana cabins and spent all day every day sitting, reading, chatting, and enjoying an adult beverage in the Havana area where it was so quiet and peaceful. We absolutely loved it.  Whenever we have a chance in the future, we will definitely go with the Havana cabin for the peacefulness of that exclusive Havana area.

Where I do not doubt this to be true, my own personal experience is that when I had to be med-evaced back to the United States no one paid a bit of attention to my medications, which were in the weekly pill boxes.  I always carry my Tylenol 3 w/codeine in its original container.

A side note is about the precise list of medications one should carry in case of the authorities wanting to review it, or in case of the necessity of replacing meds while you are away from home.  I have an iphone and it has an app which came preloaded on the phone.  It is called Health.  I'm sure other brands of phones probably have something similar.  I keep a precise list of all my medications there, both prescriptions and over the counter, and my husband does the same,  This way it is very easy for either one of us to access not only the list of meds, but all other emergency health information, without digging through folders of papers to try to find lists and such.

we did a mayan ruin and Belize lunch tour.  best best best best ever.

Stella Rose, is that the one that includes a river boat ride, lunch, and the ruins at Altun Ha?  We did that one years ago and would love to do it again.  It was one of our favorite excursions of all times!

  12. It's always a little bit emotional to see these ships go if you have some kind of attachment to them, but life is always evolving and changing in some way.  We accept it and move on.

The Fascination holds a very special spot in my heart.  My first cruise was on the Fascination in 1995 out of San Juan.  My dining room waiter was Jose from Costa Rica.  He became my husband in 1997 and we have been married 23 years now!  So the Fascination played match maker for us and I'll always hold her dearly in my heart!

  13. I am heartbroken, and I guess, naive.  When I heard the ships had been sold, I had no idea this is what it meant.  I assumed it meant they were going to another cruise line to be rebranded and give other cruisers happy times.  I am so shocked I don't even know what to say.

"This process involves bringing the ship out to sea, putting the engines full throttle ahead, and running the vessel on shore until she stops."   Such a sad, brutal concept....

  14. We were on the Horizon for Thanksgiving 2018 and we LOVED  the quiet and the privacy of the Havana area during the day and the Havana music at night.  We had a Havana Cabana and did not feel that privacy from passing guests was a big issue.  There just aren't that many other Havana passengers going back and forth out there.  However, a BIG issue for me was the fact that the patio furniture was SO uncomfortable that it was almost unusable.  The shaded seating next to the bar in the Havana pool area became the area where we spent all day every day when we weren't in port.

To try to make a long story short, I would definitely get a balcony cabin in the Havana area next time, but not a Havana cabana.

  15. Our favorite cabin on the Spirit class ships is 8237,  not so much for the extended balcony, although that is really nice, but for the size of the cabin.  Since we do like to spend some time together in our cabin, away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the ship, we really enjoy this cabin.  Look up the photos online on one of the sites which show pictures of the various cabins.  I think you'll really enjoy it.

  16. Thank you all for your positive responses, encouragement, and suggestions.  It took me a long time to get my strength back, and it has only been recently that my dialysis center has suggested that I attend a class about home dialysis, so yes, I will definitely be looking into that.  I do so appreciate being able to come here and continue to be part of the cruising community.  Thank you all.

  17. 🙁🤕

Right after our Breeze cruise April 27, 2109 - May 4, 2019, while we were spending the following week in a condo in Cape Canaveral, I became extremely ill.  I was diagnosed with acute renal failure, which has since been changed to end stage kidney disease, and now, in order to stay alive, I have to have hemodialysis 3 times a week.  So no more cruises for me, at least not on Carnival.  Dialysis at Sea has several cruises a year Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, but they're quite expensive and my insurance doesn't pay for the dialysis onboard the ship, so our vacation dollars will be better spent on land vacations where I can schedule my dialysis treatments in conjunction with our travels.

It has been 9 months now learning to accept and live with this new reality, and for a while I didn't want to look at webcams which showed my beloved cruise ships, or to come here and read about all the fun and planning you all were doing, but now I have gotten to a point where I can appreciate and enjoy reading about all your cruising adventures.  I am very appreciative of the many cruises I was able to enjoy before this health setback occurred, and I want to thank all of you for letting me join you vicariously on your cruising adventures and making me feel like I am part of it again.

    Thanks,

    Jennifer
