  1. I was on the sailing.  Yes a passenger was taken ill and was taken off by helicopter.  Before the incident we had been sailing at I think 16knots approx.  After we increased to 21 knots.

Thoughts, prayers and best wished to the passenger, family and friends.

  2. My understanding is the the Birmingham flight flew from Melbourne to Birmingham with the land based holidaymakers and then they were redistributed from Birmingham.

We were put on the Gatwick flight which was late taking off due to luggage difficulties and also some passengers being on the Gatwick plane instead of the Glasgow plane.

I understand the Gatwick plane arrived in Melbourne on Saturday and flew over to La Romana DR on Sunday evening.  From Gatwick we then underwent a 3 hour coach journey to Birmingham  Then we got a taxi home.  From leaving the ship at 11:15 local time we were travelling just shy of 23 hours.

The space centre is well worth going to, Atlantis is stunning. But £108 seems a lot.

I gather adult admission is $75 and then the cost of getting there. I saw elsewhere someone reckoned uber or equivalent $50.  So a lot depends on how many of you are in your party.  1 or 2 adults then probably not much in it.  Also if visiting on changeover day on a ship tour then hopefully will get priority on going ashore.  If booking rivately then there could be a delay in getting ashore.

Unusually, because of the way the dates fall this year, the first Barbados change over weekend still falls in the Summer airline schedules rather than the Winter one.

Do you think that is that poor forward planning from P&O or poor communication between P&O and airlines?

  5. Perhaps the idea of bigger, higher capacity cruise ships did not take into account the increase in number of flights required to fill them.  Particularly when not sailing out of UK.

At least you have been told well in advance unlike those of us on the original maiden voyage.  PR wise P&O do not cover themselves in glory.

Dropping it just after final balance , that's SNEAKY

Toatally agree.  Whilst not wishing to sound as if I am condoning the action perhaps some cancel/transfer at this point and therefore there is higher availability.

  7. Well explained Megabear2.

Although as our fcc is reduced it does mean it has less effect when comparing the bottom line between like for like cruises on different lines.

Of course using fcc only affects the cost element to P&O of the 'service' bought.

See post 17 by @Host Sharon - she says she’s been offered the chance to apply for a VIP tour and lunch on board on the 20th. So yes.

Apply for a lunch and tour to see what we could have 'won'.  P&O do Bullseye!

Have to apply and obviously only really of use to those within easy travel of terminal.

We also get the loyalty points from the cruise.

Maybe now they will have time to do a shakedown before new maiden.

  9. Not had other money back yet.  I just find it super convenient for P&O to have given a refund to paid up travellers ,highly unusual, and then cancel.  So no not happy.  Would have thought higher fcc particularly as so close to travel.

Don't really want to travel with them again  but may do to use up fcc.  Not sure how long valid for and next years holidays are already booked elsewhere.

I assume we are looking at Sharon's case to come to this conclusion.  I'd be interested to hear from someone with a straight cash only booking so we can see that everyone actually got the 25% as it appears.

Cash/credit card booking.  Paid in full then given some obc (not sure in which order).  Then a couple of weeks ago informed getting a partial refund as price dropped.  Now cancelled and offered / being given refund plus 10% fcc on newly discounted balance paid.

I have never been offered any refund from p&o if the price drops ?

That's what I find very 'fishy'. Was it a convenient ploy as they knew/heavily suspected it would not go ahead.  So give paid up passengers a refund and then this would reduce any future cruise credit offered.  Am I a cynic or is it sharp practice.
