Before the turn of the century we where on the Royal Viking Sky docked In Shanghai. There was a ships tour by train and train broke down with about 30 passengers. We waited 6 hrs for there return. Left the port at 11 pm instead of 5 pm.
As Arthur Former always said the ship will always wait for ships tours
to return.

Recently off Regatta, our 33rd cruise, first time on O. We have always booked verandah cabins, which work fine for us. I'd read many posts about the bathrooms on this class, and was prepared for it, but the small shower was still shocking. 😲 Really. My guy is 6'5", 250, and he had to stand sideways (never complained) to shower. It was manageable for the week, but could be a deciding factor when considering a long cruise.
Are there any shelves or drawers in the renovated bathroom
-
is there still a round stool in front of the dresser or did they put a chair with a back like on the O ships

90% of those close by are mediocre national chains or mediocre tourist traps. One notable exception is L'Opera Italian Restaurant; a truly outstanding place.
And while I find Parker's Lighthouse a bit of a tourist trap, the Queensview Steakhouse on the 3rd floor of Parker's is very good.
Thanks for that we planned on Parkers and L'Opera sounds like something we would enjoy

Okay...I'm a "local"...
I love the Doubletree...AND I have stayed there pre-cruise (We now live a little over an hour from the port, so, often, we extend our holiday and stay nearby for a night pre-cruise.
The area is very safe. And, visually, attractive. It is a little removed from the port and from most area restaurants --Though the 22nd Street Landing--Seafood restaurant--is walking distance around the marina. For any of the nice restaurants in Downtown San Pedro (San Pedro Brewing Co,. the Green Onion-Mexican, Rafaello's, Niko's. etc.), the Doubletree will shuttle you there and back for free. There are a few things to see and do in the area...or a short Uber ride into Long Beach to see the Queen Mary or the Aquarium...But after a long flight, you may just want to relax...and the Doubletree is good for that.
Here are some photos from our last stay there--the room itself ...and the view from our room:
We have Hyatt points and staying at the Hyatt Recency So.Pine. Any good restaurants within a short walk?

Thx 4 the clarification..No, I haven't cruised with Oceania. I wonder if any other cruise lines allow pax to bring liquor aboard...interesting.
You can bring liquor and wine on board. The liquor can only be consumed in your cabin unopened wine can be used in dinning venues for a $25.00 corcege fee.

Very informative thank you we are booking ATN to LAX premium economy and buying the lounge package.

No. I did ask but they didn't. I tried just about all the hotels in the area and no one wanted to rent a hotel room for the day - even those that say they will do it. Maybe if I booked one about 2 wks. prior but I was trying to book a little farther out. Even the small hotels refused to let us book for 1 night (for example, the Swiss Hotel). The Hilton was definitely a treat. So glad we did it.
In 2017 I had the Purser on our Oceania cruise call the Intercontinental 5 days before we docked and he made the reservation for us.When we got to the hotel at 9:30 am
the receptionist told us we had to wait till 1 pm to get our room
So I smiled and handed him a crisp us currency and our room was ready at 10 am

We know the Premium Economy does not allow access to the air conditioned lounge. But is it worth the extra cash flying from ppt to lax.Any comment will be appreciated

We first walked into Ember we where escorted to a 2 table in the middle but noticed 2 table along the window on the left side as you walk in . So we sat there and had a Great steak the best I've had on O
Second time we went waited about 15 minutes for one of those tables and had the Fish and chips made from Chilean Sea bass.Thats like taking a Rolls Royce and making it a Amazon delivery van.

Wow! That's not a good deal at all! Glad to hear it! I did call all of the big hotels and even the small Swiss Hotel and no one offered a day use pass at that time and many wouldn't even let us pay for a 1-night booking. Thanks for the info. I had to tell myself to just forget about what it cost and enjoy the moment. 😉
Did Oceania ever offer a post cruise tour or hotel package in Papeete?
-
or just keep 2 or 3 in you card holder.just in case there are none on the table

Correction - there are no clocks in the staterooms upon embarkation but you can ask your room steward/butler and they are happy to provide you one. The same for sewing kits, etc.
Thats what i did took 2 days to get and it's not illuminated so u wake up at night have to turn a light on to. read it. Not like the old red faux leather clocks we had for 20 years and u never had to ask for one it was always there
-
Just a heads up THERE ARE NO CLOCKS ON VISTA.So bring a reliable battery clock for your many time changes
-
On Vista 18 days cabin 9098 heard a small amount of noise next cabin tv But big pet peeve there are no clocks any where on the ship. No clock in staterooms that we always had since saiing O past 15 years. We ask guest service and got one 2 days later

My own thoughts of having a bathtub is a bad idea given the possible risk of getting in and out while a ship is at sea

They also took bathtubs out in Riviera refit nice big showers in A and B category we loved the bathroom refit lots of drawers

Well….part of the problem is you stated in post 287 that you take 20 minutes to go to breakfast AND lunch.
that's correct but lunch is around 1:30 in terrace and then back to our storeroom

Ok....No one ever takes 20 min. to have breakfast or lunch. You reserve a lounge at 7AM & we are expected to believe you get everything done in 20 min? I've seen balony stories in my day & this is a good one. Basically anyone who leaves for 45 min. loses their right. to the chair. My spouse does a couple of tricks: Check the drink & see if its still cold or see if the chair is damp.If not he'll remove the books that most hogs swipe from the library & we'll move in. We did this several times on our Jan. 19 trip. People came back normally after we had been there nearly an hour. Not one said anything(good for them) We leave to do the following: Swim/rest room/relax. When we want food we just pack up & leave. We are not so rude as to bring food back to the chair. Nothing like seeing a mess where some slob spilled food on the lounger. Seen it a few times..
We always give up our lounge chairs when we go for lunch at 1:30 . How long do u think it takes to eat scrambled eggs or pancakes or crusant at waves in the morning not 45 minutes

it seems the 7 day cruises are 6 pm as opposed to longer cruises at 6:30m for specialty restaurant
