  1. Did you miss the part where they were also upgrading the live bands on the ship in addition to Carnival Live. I didn't vote because none of your options fit how I feel. I think they are heading in the right direction already upgrading the live bands and giving people more choices with Carnival Live. I may not take advantage of the Carnival Live but I think it is great to have the option to give the passengers. I also could care less about Calypso bands. Personally a DJ or a band playing other types of music works just as well for me....I really could care less which because it is usually just background noise to me.

I agree with you 100%. Some people can't get it through their head that Carnival Live is OPTIONAL and that Carnival is in the process of upgrading live music on the ships. To me the DJ is fine. I have sailed on other cruise lines and most of the live bands couldn't carry a tune? At least with the DJ's the singing is on key! People need to give Carnival Live time to be implemented before saying you don't like it (I don't like green eggs and ham).:D

  2. You know it is very possible that patient zero boarded without showing any symptoms and completely unaware he/she was infected.

More than likely, the ship was infected from the previous cruise. Too many people got sick early in the cruise (by the second day). BTW, food poisoning has still not been ruled out. Maybe the new drink machines??

  3. Sure, just let them go out and infect more people. And by not reporting his illness, your DH failed to assure that your cabin received the extra cleaning required for the next passengers. Real responsible. But, oh yeah, you were on vacation.

I would hope that ALL CABINS get the extra cleaning before the next passengers board. It should be company policy at the end of each cruise for a thorough cleaning of all cabins. We don't know what goes on in the cabins and I wouldn't want to imagine. RCCL should NEVER take for granted that a cabin doesn't need "the extra cleaning" because sickness or any other incident wasn't reported from the cabin. Some people might not show symptoms until they already left the ship!;)

  4. Uh, I'm going to take a wild guess and say Dr. Seuss targets families with small children?

For better or for worse, Carnival is a cruise line that aims at making cruising affordable and attractive to ALL demographics (well, except for the uber-wealthy or sophisticated) :o.Young, old, singles, couples, families, rich, poor, black, white, green, etc, etc.

That means that not everything they do will cater specifically to you or me. You can go to the Hairy Chest Contest while I take my kids to the Dr. Seuss breakfast.

I agree with this post 100%

  5. To me neither Carnival or Royal Caribbean's MDR should be classified as exquisite. Maybe on formal nights you might be able to argue that it is but on other nights I'd say no. To me the attire, food and atmosphere dictate whether a place is exquisite. On casual nights, even if you have a table cloth and fancy food, the attire (no jacket required) doesn't seem elegant.

  6. A few years ago, I purchased the Carnival cookbook, which has many of my favorite items you would find on a cruise. However, the one that is not there is the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. Are they any good receipts for this dessert?

Our PVP sent us the recipe a few years back:

    Carnival’s Famous Chocolate Melting Cake

    (Serves 4)

    Ingredients

    6 oz dark chocolate

    6 oz butter

    4 eggs

    6 oz sugar

    2 oz flour

    Preparation

    Melt the chocolate and butter.

Mix the eggs and sugar and whisk for a few minutes.

    Add the flour.

Add the egg mix to the melted chocolate and mix.

Pour the mix in a greased mold.

Bake at 400 degrees (F) for 14 minutes.

Note: Make sure the eggs are at room temp and the chocolate is warm enough while making the mixture.

Serve with ice cream for an extra yummy treat!

  7. Well I Pay All Of My Cruises By CASH/Debit Card, Why Should I, As A Solo Have To Put Down $600.00, For An 8 Night Cruise That Costs $977.00, And Sail A WHOLE Year Later???

Common business sense would tell you that ANY CRUISE LINE cannot afford to sell all their double occupancy rooms to single cruisers for half price!

Suppose a ship has 1000 double occupancy @ $500pp. That amounts to $1000 per room or $1,000,000 for all the rooms. Now let's book all these rooms to singles. That amounts to $500,000. A loss of half a million dollars per ship per cruise!! This number would greatly increase over the course of one year for multiple ships. THE COST WOULD HAVE TO BE PASSED ON TO OTHER CRUISERS! So I say no way to single rate cruises.

As for as the deposit, it doesn't matter....you will have to pay it later anyways!

  8. Had the cove balcony on the Dream and the Breeze. Loved them!! We rarely use elevators which makes the cove easy walking distance to the dining rooms, shopping, piano bar, comedy clubs etc. If a person has a balcony on the upper decks such as 7 or above, it's going to be a longer walk (or elevator wait) to these same activities. Also very convenient when debarking at ports. Never noticed our balcony being wet. Very nice views of the ocean. Took pictures of sunsets with no interference from lifeboats. Actually the lifeboats serve as good privacy from upper decks. No open decks below to look into your balcony. The cove is the way to go!!:D

  9. We prefer the cove balcony's and had this room on our cruise in July. The room is connecting and is located on the port side. There is a lifeboat overhead but that doesn't bother us. This allows for more privacy and also shade. We didn't notice noise coming from above.

Here are a few photos of the room and from the balcony:

  10. Our inside on the Allure was almost the same size as an inside on CCL. However, I could see the importance of having more area in a cabin on CCL as you'll spend more time in it. It gives you a place to rest when you are tired of the long lines on the lido deck, the huge mobs of people on the promenade deck and pool area. Also, with a lack of entertainment and activities, you can sit in the room and watch the colorado feeds on the TV- wow!

We really didn't spend much time in our room as, along with the ports, we had a lot of shows to see, rode the flowrider, merry go round, attended the parades, got pics with dreamworks charactors, etc.

This new CCL ship looks like a continuation of CCL trying to cram more people into an old design, nothing at all innovative.

I remember when the sunshine came out, you said that the it would not be crowded, that CCL's cracker jack team of designers would make a crowded ship feel less crowded by adding 400 more people to it- yeah, we all know how that went.

Wow!! I would ride the merry go round all day:D Or maybe wait in line to get some photos with the dreamworks characters:D Couldn't miss the parades!! This sounds like my dream cruise:D Just think...in a year or so we can look forward to some bumper cars:D

  12. I dont know if its ok to put this on here or not however, i am soooooo angry. we had a photo taken at one of the ordinary photo backdrops after dinner on the ship. the photographer then tells us they can do a photo session with us (myself, dh and our 4kids) for free. that we can make an appointment and they will go around the ship with us or on shore with us and take pics. sounds great right. well im thinking ok how much is this ....she says its free and you just pick out the ones you like if there arent any no harm done. well we did our shoot on the elegant night. we got a reminder in our room the morning of our shoot saying if we cancel it will cost us $90.00. this is not what she had told us but i had no intrest in canceling so thought went further. we did our shoot had a great time. looking so forward to seeing the pics we made our appoinment to see them. we are taken into a quiet empty bar and he returns with a book and the photos. the book is a great little book of the pics they put together and then also about 40 pages of pics. great loved them all!!! they were fantastic! then he hands us a little flyer with the pricing I about died. $499. for 10 pages. $1000. for the book and the next package was $1049. dont remember what that covered. We had no idea it come to that I figured it would be high but not that high. oh and also you had to buy a package to get any of the photos. one of our kids didnt go on the cruise so we didnt even have us all in them. I had a very hard time not buying them but im not spending over $1000 for photos. just a warning for anyone else out there that may get caught up im a moment had I been told a price before hand we would not have taken the pics at all.

We were on the Dream last July (2010) and did the photo session. The pictures turned out great. Can't remember what the packages cost but we were able to buy three 8x10 for $150. There was no sitting fee. Seems like this would be great for wedding/honeymoon or other special occasion. Family members and friends fell in love with the pictures. On the Legend this year and they have the special photo sessions on it also.
