Thank you. I called again today, spoke to an NCL agent and the agent did actually cancel the reservation. I received email confirmation of the cancellation and it had a note that it was cancelled due to positive covid test. She said to go to the online form and complete again now that it was cancelled. She didn’t seem to really know how the process worked but that was her suggestion. Not a ton of faith here but I guess at least step 1 is that it’s cancelled and now we just figure out how to go about confirmation of FCC. Did they send you anything in addition to confirmation of cancellation about owed FCC or just the cancel email then FCC later on? Did you need to do anything else aside from calling to cancel plus the online form submission? Thank you!

I received an email from NCL one week after I cancelled with confirmation of the FCC and the refund of all extra charges we paid.  Our FCC appeared online the next day and by Monday our credit cards were refunded the additional fees. I did not do anything else after cancelling and submitting the case.

  2. When I tested positive 2 days before my cruise I contacted NCL by phone to cancel the cruise in addition to opening an online case file. I received my refund and FCC within one week. I would recommend contacting them by phone to cancel the cruise. I did receive email confirmation of the cancellation from them after I called to cancel.  I also did not purchase insurance from them and I  did receive FCC and a refund of all my other purchases.

  3. I have an annual travel policy but I travel a lot  If you purchase insurance through the cruise line you will have to file a claim with the insurance company first before getting a refund from NCL. Since I didn't purchase insurance through NCL I was able to get my FCC and refund within a week of filing the case with NCL.

  4. I tested positive for covid before my Alaska cruise last month.   I had done a proctored test and decided to also go to a walk in clinic to get another test. I tested positive there also and they provided a letter saying I had to quarantine and could not travel. I then submitted a case to NCL with copies of the positive test and the letter.   I had not purchased insurance through NCL so within a week from cancelling the cruise I received FCC for the full amount of the main booking along with a refund for any additional products we ordered such as tax, surcharges, excursions, wifi, etc.  The FCC must be used on a cruise that sails within one year.

  5. I was scheduled on the Encore to Alaska for the 6/26 sailing.  I tested positive for Covid on 6/24. I contacted NCL the day before the sailing to cancel and submitted a case request along with my test results and a letter from a clinic that I couldn't travel. One week later on 7/2 they applied the FCC to my account for the full amount of the booking and refunded to my credit cards all additional purchases such as prepaid service charges, excursions, taxes, etc.  The letter did state that since I did not purchase insurance through them I received the FCC instead of a refund.  The FCC must be used within one year.   I do have my own annual travel policy and I have submitted a request to them for reimbursement of hotel charges for my quarantine. I am very happy about the way it turned out.

  6. We had that happen on one of our cruises. It was either the Baltic cruise or the POA cruise.  NCL cancelled my dining reservations, but I was able to book them again. And then they were cancelled again and I booked them again.  I had duplicate reservations on my final summary but was able to straighten it all out once I got on the ship. This was pre-covid.

  7. I have been on 5 international trips including 1 ocean cruise (the Bliss) and a 16 day river cruise that ended on May 2nd. Have never tested  positive for covid.  We are leaving in 3 weeks for a 9 day group tour of the Canadian rockies and a week in northern Washington to visit family and friends and then an Alaskan cruise on the Encore.  We did catch a cold while on the river cruise but twice tested negative for Covid. I have ordered the free self tests from the government to check for covid in case we get sniffles again on this trip.

I live in FL and I was vaccinated at Publix.  I contacted my county health dept. if these vaccines would show up on my immunization documents and they said yes.  I like to carry my one piece of paper with me that shows all of my immunizations since moving to FL 17 years ago.  Perhaps you can contact your county health dept. with your question and see if your immunizations are recorded there...

Thank you. I was wondering about that so I have contacted my county health department online and submitted a request to have them email me my immunization records.

Its' been a while since we were on the Getaway, but will be sailing on her in a few months out of New Orleans.

Interesting to see they had breakfast buffet available in Moderno?   Was this every day?

Yes, it was every day til 0930 (except the last day). The first few days of the cruise there weren't many people there but towards the end it got a little more crowded. However, we were able to easily get a seat and not have to fight the crowds in the buffet line. I highly recommend it for breakfast.

  10. Our itinerary was a little different than most. We only had Monday night and Tuesday in St Petersburg.  On Saturday afternoon after returning from our Mecklenburg tour in Germany I went to Guest Services and was assigned group 2 for leaving the ship. However, there was nothing given to me to show we were in group 2 so when the time came it didn't matter what group you were in - everyone wanted to get off at once. The ship arrived in St Petersburg around 6 PM on Monday and our tour was at 8.  People on the ship excursions were meeting in the theater.  So around 6:30 we found 2 chairs at O'Sheehans closest to the elevators and the theater. We sat there for about 45 minutes when one of the cruise staff  came by and announced that anyone on independent tours could proceed to the theater. We went in and were seated in the second row. About 15 minutes later they lead us to the Gangway.  We were among the first to get to our tour group that night.

The next day we were supposed to meet our tour group at 0830 so we proceeded from breakfast at Moderno down the stairs one level to deck 7 around 0800 thinking we would be able to walk off without a problem. When we came to the mid ship staircase area people were already lined up and the line wrapped around the whole area. They finally announced that groups 1 and 2 could disembark and everyone no matter the group number started pushing through to get to the stairs and get off. It was a mess, but we did finally get off and join our tour group about 30 minutes late.

  11. I just got off the Getaway a week ago. I loved the ship - didn't have any issues with overcrowding with the exception of disembarkation in St Petersburg. The atrium got a little crowded at times but we were always able to find seats.  Because it was a Baltic cruise we didn't use the pool deck so can't really comment on that, although we did eat outside a few times when the weather was nice. We never had problems finding a table when we ate at the buffet. Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. I would sail on the Getaway again.
