Some would make more....many who are not direct passenger facing would make nearly nothing

According to Jcheng, crew gets paid a minimum no matter how much DSC is collected.  If DSC is larger than a certain unknown figure then crew gets more, but if not, no matter how little is collected, crew pay reflects minimum.

I’m wondering if the best thing appreciative cruisers can do for crew is remove all DSC and let NCL fund their own payroll, then LEGITIMATELY tip at least 100% of the DSC amount directly to crew.  I don’t know how the behind the scenes would be able to be directly tipped, but with the knowledge and info resources on this forum I’d bet we could figure it out.

Let’s skip the CHEAP, STEALING, and STIFFING talk and move onto the real discussion - for purposes of this discussion those who remove DSC commit to paying AT LEAST that figure in direct tips.

  2. They used to be special, with truffle oil & Parmesan shavings.  Last cruise either they were frozen steakhouse fries or when I asked about the “real thing” I got an approximation with Parmesan and some sort of extra oil.

    What have others experienced?

DSC always ends up in the staff's hands, NCL doesnt pay us salary you do, DSC is our salary, how it works is everything gets pulled and distributed evenly among hotel workers(galley, housekeeping, restaurant, bar etc).

If you choose to withdraw your DSC and give cash to your steward or anyone else you may do so, that cash will be only for that person he/she doesnt have to report to anyone how much cash she got or from who. Example you want to tip me cash, that cash is only mine, nobody has the right to take it away from me not even the captain. Hope i menaged to explain it well enough, english is not my first language😄

I have done all my 5 contracts on Epic, my 4th contract i joined Bliss but had to go home after 3 weeks in due to some family issues, and was resceduled to Epic on my way back. Favorite bar Maltings, Atrium Bar and Spice H2O.

Do you get paid the same with or without DSC?  Doesn’t Maritime Law mandate a minimum salary for all workers?  Would workers make MORE if everyone removed their DSC and distributed 100% of it as individual tips?

  4. Slight hijack—for those who want this type of island experience, I am a huge fan of Tradewinds Cruise Club, who offer shared catamaran charters for a week, or land/see split weeks.  They have them in Tonga and either Mayreaux or Canouan, I forget which.  Email me at doraner at comcast dot net if you want to know more.  I am a very happy tradewinds owner and can give you a referral, and pricing is NOT outrageous.

Up until about 5 years ago, NCL allowed as much non alcoholic beverages as you wished, we always brought at least a case of water, slapped on a luggage tag. Obviously NCL has found it is financially advantageous not to allow these beverages to be brought onboard.

Pre UBP days?  And I’m not thinking cases of water but a few cans or bottles from port.   Not like those of us frugal enough to bring a case of water wouldn’t refill an empty bottle that we are permitted to bring....

  6. At this point I don’t see the point!  If most pax have the booze or soda pkg as a perk, then NCL is saving themselves $ by letting pax bring non-booze aboard (or even booze, other than bottles of wine).  The issue of staff dragging cases of soda can be dealt with by requiring pax to carry on any liquids they want, so they will drag it themselves and carry it themselves....

And honestly, how much revenue can a can or two of soda from the port cost NCL?  Really?

  7. You mean NCL hasn't decided to charge a 20% grat on vending machine purchases "for your convenience" quite yet?  After all, the guy who fills the vending machine might like to get on the "auto grat" bandwagon - surely he works as hard as the guy at the bar who opens your can of soda, or the one who delivers your overpriced bottled water to your cabin, or refills the minibar....
