  1. You have the Alcoves from 9am to 9pm. I don't plan to be in them every minute for that 12 hours! That is what is nice - you can leave, come back, go about your day and you always have that wonderful spot waiting for you. You don't have to deal with chair hogs or search for those premium spots in the shade where you can never find two loungers together. To each his own:D I am really looking forward to our sea days on the Silhouette!!

I agree, Christine. We have reserved one on our March Reflection cruise and fully expect to enjoy it. Just wish we had the option on our June Baltic adventure on Eclipse

  2. That's normally the case when your first cruise day is a sea day. If you are on a cruise where the first 2-3 days are port intensive, you never know when it's going to be held. On one cruise where the first day was a tender port visit, virtually no one showed up. Good thing we had a pre-cruise get together so we could meet many of the Roll Call folks.

A Sixth? - Never been to a Cruise Critic Connections Party where they served alcohol for FREE. I guess you were lucky. :)

On both of my X cruises to date, the CC gathering featured wine and savory munchies, one at 11:30 in the morning, the other mid- afternoon. It may depend on which staffer organizes it -- Sue Denning put on a really nice gathering when she was on Century a couple years ago, I forget who was in charge last March on the Millenium but equally generous.

  3. We are thinking about purchasing the premium package, but don't want to frowned upon.

    Anyone else encounter any problems?

    Thanks,

    Mari:)

I was surprised to read this on Marshall Jackson on Travel

An ex-airline guy blogs about airlines and travel.

He cruised on Equinox on 7/05/10:

    His Constructive Criticism

"Celebrity offers a wonderful premium drink package. I don’t remember the price, but believe it to be somewhere in the vicinity of $50 dollars per day per person (plus 15 percent gratuity), you have unlimited access to soda, specialty coffees, bottled water, wines by the glass, beers, and cocktails up to $12 dollars in value. Suffice it to say we jumped on that. I’m not sure what kind of issue that many members of the bar staff have with these packages, but it’s obvious that they do. The pool bar even had a little handwritten sign for drink package receipts that had a “frowny face” written beside it in full view of guests. I don’t think I’m imagining things when I say that well north of 50 percent of the bar staff I interacted with during the cruise seemed to be annoyed that I’d ordered a drink when they learned I had a package. When ordering a Mimosa during the brunch service previously mentioned, you would’ve thought I’d offended the wait staff when they saw that I had a drink package. Not sure what the problem is, but if Celebrity is going to offer the package, they need to fix whatever issue the staff has with it."

That is really unfortunate; a visit with the hotel director while onboard would seem to be the best way to address this. On the Century last month, there were no issues whatever with the premium package. The bar staff was great as were the sommeliers in both Murano and the MDR. Even though the package has a 15% tip built in, we still tipped a dollar or two when we were having more than 1 drink, so maybe that helped, but honestly, the staff was so nice and friendly that I don't think it made any difference.

  4. Are you trying to understand the codes Celebrity uses or the shorthand words, or "codes", we use here on cruise critic?

The Celebrity codes are more or less explained in any of the brochures on the ships, or deck plans on their website, that describe the rooms and locations.

Here on Cruise Critic we frequent posters use some codes that are a combination of the codes used by Celebrity (see above) along with some abbreviations. Some common ones:

FV - Family view room - these are larger rooms designed to accommodate larger families.

CC - often used to refer to both Concierge Class rooms or to Cruise Critic. Celebrity recently tiered the Concierge Class rooms so now they might also be referred to as C1, C2 or C3 rooms.

OS - outside rooms which have no balcony (just a window)

Any others you're trying to figure out?

Is the difference between C1 and C2 just location? I am booked in a C2 on Century. The cabin adjacent is a C1. I am assuming they are essentially the same, just curious. (Newbie question that I couldn't find the answer to by searching. I have learned so much on these boards in the past couple months. You folks are amazing!)
