  1. We are getting ready to go on a Carnival Journey's cruise which will be 14 days long. Since we will be gone for an extended period of time I want to send my granddaughter some postcards. We will be in the Eastern Caribbean. Should I just put a US stamp on the postcard? If not, how do I know how much to put on it and where would I get the stamps? Does the ship have anywhere that collects mail so that I can mail them onboard? Thank you for any information on how to do something that at home is a simple process. I am just not sure how to handle it in a foreign port when I have no access to a car to go to the post office.

  2. Thank you to everyone for your advice. I totally understand. I live in Columbus OH and sadly there are areas close to the downtown area that I would not advise people to walk in either. I suppose that is true of most large cities. I guess we will make a decision when we get there. In the meantime, I am getting in gear by memorizing Poe's most famous poem; The Raven. I am up to the second verse. I don't think I will have it all memorized by the time we leave in January haha. It is a great poem though.

The Edgar Allen Poe Museum is open Thursday thru Sunday 11am to 4 pm. I would not recommend walking to museum as the area past the hotel may not be safe.

Thank you Tony O. So are you saying that even if we went earlier in the day such as around noon or 1:00 it would not be a safe walk

If people would just show the hell up on time, they would get done quicker.

On my liberty cruise in June, it wasn't that hot outside but people were late. Thusly delaying the inevitable.

Get there on time, get it done and go about your business.

This is the heart of the problem. The last muster we went to they spent at least 30 minutes just waiting for about 5 people. We had one guy behind us pass out and they had to move a lady up to the front because she was afraid she was going to pass out. It doesn't take long for word to spread that you should show up late for the drills so that you will (A) not have to stand there as long and (B) Be in front so you can exit quicker when its over.

  5. I just read recently that not all of the tips that are part of the pre-paid gratuities actually goes to crew members on some cruise lines. Some of the cruise lines take an administrative fee. It also said that on some lines a crew member is required to turn in any cash tips that they receive. My questions are: (1) Does anyone KNOW FOR SURE that Carnival does not take an administrative fee and (2) Does anyone KNOW FOR SURE that if I pay a crew member a cash tip that they do not have to turn it in.

Carnival's policy will determine whether or not I prepay any gratuities so I appreciate your feedback.

  6. As others have said, the included amenities depend on the ship.

No reason you can't just smile and say "hello" to the staff at the front desk of the spa, while walking on by as if you know what you're doing. :D Any steam rooms, etc. not included in your regular cruise fare will be obvious as it will require a special key/card for entry. Don't be afraid to explore. :)

Thank you. I guess I have a case of "fear of the unknown." I will do exactly as you say. I will put on my best smile, greet them as if they are my best friend and then go check out the sauna and/or steam room.

  7. Our steward gave us a $50 spa card for our anniversary. I had my hair done and was not pressured to buy a single thing. I tipped generously and it was a fabulous experience. My hair looked great I thought! See attached!

Your hair does look great. I will be checking out the Spa on our next cruise in January on the Pride. Can't wait!

  8. Great tip - thanks! I am not a customer and I was able to sign up through the Drivewise app and then log in to the Allstate Rewards site from my laptop. Somehow it allowed me to buy 2 $100GCs and then another 5 in the same day. Sooo much easier than stalking the Verizon website.

How do you sign into the rewards app without an account number?

  9. Although I have been on 4 cruises I have yet to visit any of the Spa's. I keep reading about high pressure sales for products and I am not really into massages so have not really seen any reason to go. But I am kind of curious about them. Is there anything that you can do in the Spa area that doesn't cost money. Do they have steam rooms or sauna's. If so, do you have to pay for them. How about whirlpool baths? When you go in, do you tell the people at the desk that you are just using the steam room or do you just walk on past and go find them? I don't really want to be cornered and have to keep telling someone that I don't want to buy anything. Thank you for any info you can give me about the "freebies" in the Spa area.

  10. I'm beginning to think that I'm in the minority when it comes to NOT worrying about what others are wearing at dinner time. Hardly a week goes by without someone commenting on how others are dressed, and how that "ruined" their dining. Maybe the time is long over due to do away with Elegant Night and go with either "Business Casual" or "Cruise Casual". And, instead of coming on here and whining about how certain other passengers are dressed at dinner time, why not voice your complaint directly to the Maitre D?

You are not alone. I also don't get why people care what other people wear. It doesn't affect the taste of my food in any manner, shape or form. If I choose to wear a beautiful gown and the guy next to me is wearing blue jeans it doesn't change my experience in the least. People need to Live and let live. Quit worrying about what other people do.
