  1. No washing machines for guest use. You can have stuff washed.

They no longer have formal nights, just something called "evening chic." From what I understand, many people still go formal and many just get a little dressier than their usual dinner attire.

  2. We stayed in a Hampton Inn on Staten Island that provided free parking while we were on our cruise and free transportation to the port in Bayonne. As I recall, there's a Hilton of some kind right next door that does the same thing. They're in a kind of office park, so there's not a lot to do nearby. But we were tired and just wanted to relax, and it worked out well for us.

  3. I have been to Qsine three times on two different ships, each time with only one other person. I think if you ask your server to help you choose wisely, you can have a lovely time there by yourself (and maybe with an excellent dining companion, a book). My fellow diner and I didn't finish everything, but we did get to try a bunch of fun dishes. I'd say give it a try. If you travel alone, you know very well how to make the most of it!

  4. I've been on the hump several times and never even thought of seeing into (or looking into) anyone else's cabin. The humps are wonderful because you have a much larger balcony -- two or three times the size of the regular ones. The cabins themselves are identical to any other verandah cabin. I'm afraid I can't help you about the obstruction -- I've never stayed on that deck.

  5. Norris, I am thrilled that I stumbled over your post, which might be the best thread I've ever read on CC. I've never been on the Silhouette but have adored the Solstice and Eclipse and will be on the Equinox for the first time two months from tomorrow. One of the things I love about your travelogue is that, unlike some others on this site, you don't spend a lot of time boasting about how great your accommodations are and how you just have to have the premium extra-special hotsy-totsy eating and drinking package or you might as well just die. You get pleasure out of what you're doing and you pass it along to the rest of us. Thank you so much (and if you can get Equinox to open a Lawn Club before April 4, I would really appreciate it).

  6. I love hearing about the Beatles show. (I have been a huge Beatles fan since I was 12, more than half a century ago, and saw them twice back in the day.)

I have to say that, although I love Celebrity, I have not been a fan of most of the production shows. (Sue me -- I'm a retired theater critic and have a lot of opinions.) My sailing mates and I have always preferred the lounge performers -- singers, string quartets, acoustic guitarists and the like.

But I would happily watch a Beatles act again and again. Equinox, 4/4/2016, I'm talking to you!

  7. I have been on both. To me the make-or-break issue is the two lines' smoking policies. On NCL we encountered lots of smoking at the pool and in the casino (which we had to walk through to get to the dining room). On Celebrity, smoking is quite limited to a very few outdoor areas, and never on the balconies. It's a much, much more pleasant experience for those of us who hate smoke.
