1. I know people seem to have a love/hate relationship with this show and I get it may be vary from night to night. My question is - has anyone taken their kids to the show and did they enjoy it? What ages would probably be more likely or less likely to enjoy it?? Thanks!!

The two shows in the evening are for all ages. They do a late show one night at like 11:30 or midnight that is adults only.

Some of the bits they do kids might find humor in and some of it would just fly over their heads. Obviously a lot of it depends on the age of the kids.

Humor is VERY subjective and what doubles some over laughing others will just stare blankly like a confused German Sheppard.

Bottom line is you don't have to worry about them dropping F bombs or anything of that nature in the normal evening shows.

  2. How long is an entertainer's contract? Are they on board for many months at a time?

From what I have been told by several of them it's 6 months for the singers and dancers in the production shows.

As far as the individual entertainers around the ship they vary. Some will do 6 months and I know some have gotten on and done just a couple of months.

There is a lot more flexibility for them.

  3. "I am so sorry about your camera"

"I was napping and awoke to find a black object dangling in front of me"

"Startled, I instinctively took a swing at it thinking it was a sea bat attacking me"

"The next thing I knew the camera went flying into the ocean"

    "Sorry!"

  4. Great well balanced review! I was on the Jewel in October and again in November and will be back in a few weeks.

I do have a question about this,

TIP: Don’t forget you need BOTH your room key and picture ID.

We saw a few people who forgot picture ID and had to go back to their rooms before they could leave. They were frustrated. But it states clearly in the dailies every day and there are announcements made that you need both.

I typically take some cash and my ship card and leave other ID behind.

Never had any trouble getting off and back on. So are you saying they now check to make sure you have a photo ID before you get off the ship?

  5. Thanks for the great pictures. I was privileged to sail the Spirit 6 times while in New Orleans. With over 30 cruises on 5 lines on all sizes of ships the Spirit is still my favorite. I love it because it feels like a "ship"!

The staff and crew at that time was incomparable. I was on 4 times in a 12 month period and they really felt like family I knew so many by name. I still keep in touch with a few of them to this day.

Would LOVE to see her come back to the states.

  6. Ahhh gotcha lol since I have yet to sail with NCL I am interested in all the different food opinions :)

As you should be! Just throw out the hyperbole in either direction and you should get a pretty good idea.

I have done over 30 on 5 different lines and have found the food to be far more alike than different. I just have to roll my eyes when I see some of the descriptors tossed about.

I have been fortunate to eat at some of the finest land based restaurants in the nation and a lot in Europe due to work and leisure travels.

I am as comfortable in the Fountain in Philly as I am at Golden Corral in middle town USA.

If your taste simply can't abide the MDR fare the specialty restaurants are a great option especially in light of the generally lower fares on NCL.

Certainly don't let the food keep you from trying NCL.

  7. I was on the Star 3 times in 2013 and found it to be in perfectly fine order.

Then again I am not the type that pays a lot of attention to carpets or if there is a, Gasp!, spot of rust on an outside railing. I am always too busy enjoying myself to be overly concerned with stuff like that. They were constantly cleaning which is more important to me.

As far as the spa, sadly I can't comment as I was not allowed to enter since they were raging "monkeyphobics".

  8. Hello, my sister and I are taking a cruise on the Epic in April. This will be the first time either of us have ever taken a cruise. We are BEYOND excited.

I keep reading that experienced "cruise takers" can spot a newbie in a split second. So my question is, how can you tell?

    Thanks!

p.s. these boards are great, I'm picking up a lot of good info!

I have been on over 30 and I can't say as I have ever given it any thought as to who is on their first cruise.

I think you will generally find "veterans" love to be helpful so if you have questions of your fellow cruisers don't hesitate.

The main thing you can do is enjoy yourself, have fun and give not a whit what anybody else thinks.

  9. Directly from the Latitudes levels page,

    http://www.ncl.com/latitudes-rewards/rewards-points-and-benefits

    * Ship pin and onboard discounts are available on all sailings. All other benefits are available on sailings 5 days or longer. Welcome Gift, Chocolate-Covered Strawberries and Sparkling Wine are delivered as one per stateroom. Le Bistro benefit can be used at our Italian or Asian specialty restaurants. Restrictions apply. Latitudes Rewards internet minutes cannot be combined with other internet promotional offers.

  10. I wish people would be more considerate of the other passengers. A magnet on the door or item placed in the "mailbox" thing to help identify your cabin is one thing. Decorating the door like a parade float can be really annoying to people who prefer to let the cruise line determine the decor of the public spaces.

I never cease to be amazed at the things people find to be put upon by.

  11. I just looked at my eDocs and it says I got a midship balcony from my inside GTY. I'm happy with that. :D

    Well played!

Just curious, do you typically get insides or do you typically get more expensive rooms?

Just trying to get an idea if it's random to get that sort of a bump up or if they look and see you have traditionally spent more on balcony rooms or suites?

  12. I don't see either of Dasmonkey's pages when I log on at either site. I click on Latitudes Tier Level: Gold then I clicked on Tier benefits and there is the difference. Perhaps because I'm logged in, the pages were not updated? Neither website that I used had the "fishes" they only had check marks as to what you were eligible for. Does that make sense?

They are both identical for me with Firefox, IE 10 and Chrome.

    Fishes and everything.

I see not mention of a fruit basket anywhere.

  13. While I do not have a Crystal Ball my first thought would be that I do not see NCL pulling out of New Orleans but.... a good predictor where a ship is going to be is going right to the Port Schedule. http://portno.com/vessel-schedules Unfortunately I do not see any NCL ships in New Orleans for any late 2015 months or early 2016, RCI and Carnival are the only departures listed with port stops from ships like Aida also listed. The other thing is that the Jewel is moving to Port of Houston. While Yes Dawn will be doing cruises out of New Orleans in early 2015 my guess is they are trying to decide if they are staying in New Orleans.

While it is wishful thinking on my part I cannot help but wonder if they are not considering bringing a ship to the West Coast Full time through the winter months and keep a ship such as the star doing the back and forth runs of the Panama Canal. The Mexico runs are actually selling fairly with pricing staying high. I can see them keeping a ship like the Jewel or Dawn on the West Coast an then heading up to Alaska in the Spring. :)

Thanks for that schedule link. Some good info to be uncovered there.

It is interesting to note that Carnival is bringing in even bigger ships in the form of the 128k ton Dream and have committed to be there through the end of 2017 which is as far as that schedule shows. Clearly they believe NOLA is good for their business. Of course they are also running the 70k Elation on 4 and 5 day runs.

RCCL has gone from the Voyager class to the 90k ton Serendade of the Seas and will be dropping to the 70k ton Splendour of the Seas in late 2015.

So it's hard to make a determination of how NOLA is doing based on those two companies. RCCL is shrinking capacity and Carnival is increasing it.

Oh well, I will give my money to whichever company stays in NOLA.

  14. We just came back from the same cruise. We were on the roll call, but completely slept through the meet and greet :o

While I did have a very enjoyable time, I really did miss the main dining room experience you get with Royal Caribbean. This was my first Norwegian cruise, and because of the dining, probably my last. I just like the fact that on RC, you have the same wait staff every night, who remembers you and what you like. We only ate in the main dining room 3 times, and opted for the buffet and specialty dining the other nights. I will say that Cagneys was excellent. The best filet I've ever had. I wasn't impressed at all with Le Bistro. I wish we'd bought the Ultimate Dining Package and ate at Cagneys every night. I thought the buffet was great, never had anything bad there, everything was fresh and very good. I did have a good time, but it's going to be a task to get the fiance back on another ship.

Also, after having previously done 2 Southern Caribbean cruises, I wasn't a huge fan of the western Caribbean itinerary. Honduras was downright scary, my fiance wanted to turn around and get right back on the ship, and I was ready after not being off for very long. We didn't leave the port in Belize. Maya Chan on Costa Maya was amazing, would definitely go back there, and Cozumel was ok.

The west end of Roatan beaches and snorkeling are as nice as anything I have seen in the Southern Caribbean. Walking out the front gate and making any sort of assessment about Roatan isn't really accurate.

  15. Does anyone know what ship Emily and Arvin are on?

It looks like they are on a break at the moment.

This is their last post on Face Book about their schedule,

    November 10, 2013

"Hi Guys , we are joining the Epic by May 18, 2014... Thank you so much for all the support!"

    Here they are Face Book,

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Arvin-Emily/140649462694330

Here is their personal web site,

    http://micarvin.yolasite.com/about-us.php

You can send them e-mail and ask questions at either place.

  16. Regardless of the middle man in this case (NCL) Invicta should honour its warranty as long as the buyer has the receipt as proof of purchase.

Pretty piss poor customer relations as well as service. Many other companies do not and would not behave this way in this situation.

Example: Zippo lighters - they don't care where or when you bought the lighter. They don't even ask for a receipt. All of their lighters have a lifetime warranty and as long as the customer pays the postage, both ways, Zippo will either recondition/repair the lighter or replace it for free.

Zippo lighters are also sold on many cruise ships everywhere. They would not give the customer this kind of nonsense.

I agree with other posters who say NCL is not responsible. INVICTA is responsible.

Actually Zippo MPL lighters are only warranted for 3 years as they were utter garbage.

To stay on topic I have never understood people that spend more than anything worth about $15 on cruise ship merchandise.

If I wanted to buy a nice watch a 3rd party watch seller on a cruise ship is the last place I would look.

  17. met someone on my last cruise, NCL STAR, 2 weeks...they booked on the FRIDAY, before we left on SUNDAY.....their name wasn't even on the roster at the terminal....go ahead, guess which room they were given...they had a GTY....never sailed NCL, and straight into the OWNER'S SUITE.....good job NCL....i really liked these people and were happy for them....but, why is there a loyalty program exactly?

I have booked NCL including the Star out of NOLA more than once on the Thursday before leaving on Sunday.

I pretty much stay packed and could be ready to go within an hour if the opportunity presented.

There were no suites forthcoming however.

  18. This still makes me a bit nervous that there has been no announcement for NCL in NOLA beyond the spring of 2015.

I know in the past I knew the next 3 ships that were slated for NOLA so I know they have announced the schedule further in advance in the past.

I do my part as I typically get in 3-4 per each ships season in NOLA.

3 on the Star and about to do my 3rd on the Jewel while they were in NOLA.

I am spoiled at being able to drive down and hop on a NCL ship.

  19. As others have alluded to, it's all about retail space. I would like to see them bring back individual cartons of chocolate milk, or better yet, coffee milk.

It was readily available on the Jewel last week. From Borden's no less.
