  1. i am also wondering the same thing.

does the train go directly to the airport or do we need a taxi from the train station.

    thanks

Hi, the train journey from Warnemuende to Berlin is very straightforward. For times and fares please see the Berlin page on my website. From the main train station you can take a taxi, a bus or the s-Bahn train.

The cost of a ticket from Warnemuende to Berlin is 43.70 € pp. If you book right through on the train the price is the same.

For a party of four it would be cheaper to buy a Schoenes-Wochenende-ticket @ 52€ for the whole party together if travelling at the weekend or a Quer-Durch-land ticket @ 68€ for the whole party if travelling on a weekday. You can find more details of these tickets on the Berlin page.

Cost of a taxi is 20-30€, time about 20 mins. The bus fare is around 2-3€.

For four people with luggage I would recommend the taxi.

    Please

Note that the prices I have quoted are 2016 and may rise slightly at the end of February. I will update the website when and if that happens.

I really don't know how the cruise lines arrive at their prices, they are a rip-off!

    Happy cruising :),

  2. Flying to berlin for a [emoji568]cruise the next day out of wernamunde. What are the options to getting from berlin to Wernamunde with [emoji715]luggage?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Hi, you have two options, hire car or train.

The drive from Berlin to Warnemünde is easy, mostly on the Autobahn, and takes about 2.5hrs. Several hire companies have drop off points at the Cruise Terminal.

There are no longer any direct trains from Berlin to Warnemünde, (except for a 'day-tripper' train on the weekend, not recommended) you must change in Rostock to the s-bahn but Rostock is a very easy station with elevators to all platforms. The RE service from Berlin departs every two hours at 8:41, 10:41 etc. throughout the day arriving in Rostock at 11:23 etc. (travel time about 2hrs.40mins) The s-bahn service from Rostock departs every 15 mins throughout the day, travel time about 20mins. Both trains are modern, comfortable and have good luggage space.

For further details on fares etc. please see the Berlin page on my web site

    Happy cruising :)

  3. Hello Annie, we will be cruising from Warnemunde on NCL in June. Thinking of flying into the Rostock airport from Munich. Do you know anything about the Rebus 127? I can only find the website in German. Otherwise I believe we have to take a bus to Gustow then take the train into Rostock station. Do these buses leave directly from the airport? Thanks for any information.

Hi, I have to confess that I know very little about the airport. It has only become popular in the last couple of years, since I left Rostock.

However, the 127 is a dedicated shuttle bus between the airport and Rostock Hbf. where you would change to the s-bahn to Warnemünde. I found this information at http://www.rostock-airport.de/en/getting-here.html

There is no public transport between the airport and Güstrow.

    Hope this helps.

    Happy cruising :)

  4. Hi Travelanni

Thanks for the information, it's been really helpful reading all of your advice.

We arrive in Warnemunde on the 1st of August 2017, at 9am and then leave at 11pm.

We were thinking of catching the bus to Bad Doberan, doing the Molli train. Catch a train to Rostock and then back to Warnemunde for the evening. Does this sound feasible?

Also would it be worth buying an all day travel card? There are 4 of us

    best regards Mel

Dear Mel, Please accept my apologies for the late reply but I have just returned from holidays.

I guess that by now you have the information from Simon but some things may have changed so I will reply too.

The bus stop at the Warnemünde Werft station is now right alongside the train platform.

The buses are still timed to connect with the Molli. Dep. Warnemünde Werft 9:40, arr. Bad Doberan Station 10:14.

Trains to Rostock (better than the bus) depart Bad Doberan shortly after the return of the Molli.

It would definitely be worthwhile to buy a Group Day Ticket @24€ (32€ if bought separately). This ticket covers bus to Bad Doberan, train to Rostock Main station, tram to Rostock City and back to station, train to Warnemünde.

It will also cover the cross river ferry in Warnemünde if you would like a nice evening view of your ship and the town.

It does not, of course, cover the Molli which is a privately owned company.

    Happy cruising :)

  5. Hi Anni! My name is John from New York. I am sailing on the NCL Jade from Hamburg in July 17'. I have never been to Hamburg, or Europe for that matter, before. We will be arriving in Hamburg 2 days before sailing. While searching for a pre-cruise hotel, we came across the "25hour Hotel" in Hafen City. The hotel is certainly unique and looks interesting with views of the harbor, but I have some questions. It is not in the center city area, how difficult would it be to get back and forth? My thought on avoiding center city is the G20 Conference taking place in Hamburg the week before our arrival. Not much seems to be in the area of the hotel, Google Earth actually shows construction sites around the hotel. Do you have any knowledge about this hotel and the area it is in?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Happy Holidays!!

Hi John, thank you for your greetings.

I am sorry but I don't feel qualified to comment on Hamburg, after it was pointed out that it is 'not NE Germany' and that questions on Hamburg should be posted on a different thread where 'others with better knowledge' could see them, although it is my shopping city and favourite city in the world for that matter. I'm sure that JMM Hamburg will be happy to help though.

Thanks for the reminder about the G20 conference. After experiencing the mayhem it created in Rostock a few years ago I will make sure not to go shopping in Hamburg that week.

Wherever you stay I'm sure you will enjoy Hamburg as much as I do.

    Seasons Greetings and Happy Planning

  6. Anni,

Thanks for all the great information - I found it really helpful. I was planning a trip to either Schwerin or Güstrow on our port day (5th June 2017) but as it is a Monday both palaces will be closed. Is there still enough to justify a visit to Schwerin without seeing the inside of the Palace?

Also - did you know that you have a link to an escort service on the Rostock page of your website? And not a tour guide kind of escort! I couldn't find a contact me link on the website so I thought I'd let you know here.

    Michelle

Hi Michelle, thank you for your appreciation.

Schwerin is a lovely baroque town, set on 7 lakes. Many of the buildings have connections with the ruling Ducal family. The palace gardens on the edge of the largest lake are beautiful and the outside of the palace is, to my mind, more interesting than the interior. On a Baltic cruise you see some really splendid palaces, especially in St. Petersburg, so missing the interior of Schwerin is no great deal. The park surrounding the castle has some interesting features and is very pleasant in summer. Guided walks in English are available. Please see my Schwerin page for details.

There are some nice cruises on the lakes, the landing stage is right next to the palace. The 4-See cruise includes the three smaller lakes within the suburbs, lovely waterside houses and quaint week-enders, approx 1.5hrs. Or you can take the ferry to Zippendorf, about 20 mins. to the lake beach for a swim. Return on the ferry at 3.50pm or on the tram.

For more info. see http://en.schwerin.com/en/attractions/water/boat_tours/index.html (in English) or

    https://weisseflotteschwerin.de/ (German only.)

You could also combine Schwerin with Wismar if you have the time.

Many thanks for the tip re. the link on the Rostock page, now deleted. I have no idea how it got there and apologise to anyone whom it may have offended. It is just the latest in a long line of unexplained additions to my internet activities which have caused me recently to get out of the social media scene completely and strengthen my security. Hopefully it will not happen again.

    Happy cruising :)

  7. We would like to fly into Prague precruise and take a train to the port in Warnemunde. I am having difficulty finding information regarding train service or even bus service to accomplish this. Has anyone done this? Know how? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. There are 3 of us, 2 adults and a will be 11 year old boy. Thank you in advance!

Hi, great choice, Prague is one of my favorite cities. I try to fit in a visit every year, usually at Christmas.

All the information below is taken from the recently updated DB website http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en and my own personal experience. You did not give a travel date so I used a random date in May but most of these trains run daily.

As already said, whichever route you take, as the main line trains terminate in Rostock you must take either the s-bahn train or a taxi (cost around 25-30euro) from there to your ship in Warnemünde, journey time about 30 mins.

The quickest and most direct route involves one change of train in Büchen, a small town with a very 'easy' station - only two main line platforms, lifts etc.

    Dep. Prague Hbf. 8:28am Arr.Rostock Hbf. 4:50pm

    Dep. Prague Hbf. 10:28am Arr.Rostock Hbf. 6:50pm

and so on every two hours throughout the day. Journey time approx. 8h:20m

If you decide to travel via Berlin the journey time is only slightly longer, 8h:55m. if you travel straight through to Rostock.

Dep. Prague Hbf. 8:28am Arr. Berlin Hbf. 12:27pm.

Dep. Berlin Hbf 2:41pm Arr. Rostock Hbf. 5:23pm

and so on every two hours throughout the day.

If you choose to stay overnight in Berlin the service to Rostock is every two hours throughout the day starting at 6:41am, travel time 2h40m

I would not recommend Prague to Warnemünde on the day of the ship's departure as there would be no room for error ie. missed connection, delayed train etc. but either choice would give you time for an over night stay and a quick look around Rostock or Berlin in the evening or next morning. In both cities the InterCity hotel, very well rated and reasonably priced, is about 100 yds. from the station entrance with good local transport around the city.

In either case seats can be booked on the first leg (EuroCity train), and I would strongly recommend this, but not on the second leg (RE train). However, RE's always have plenty of seats.

To get the best prices the journey, with or without an overnight stopover in Berlin, can be booked from 90 days in advance, on-line. At the moment the special for 90 days in advance is 49.90 euros pp. as opposed to the standard price of 128 euro pp. A considerable saving with the only catch being that the tickets are not flexible, they must be used on the train nominated when booking and they go fast so you need to be booking on the earliest possible day.

I hope this helps. It sounds complicated but is really a very easy journey. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

    Happy planning and cruising :)

  8. Hi Anni,

First I want to thank you for the information you provide on your website and this forum. It is invaluable for us first time travelers to Germany.

You have listed the best rate for 4 people traveling via train from Berlin to Warenemunde (68 euro). We have a group of 5 from our roll call meeting in Berlin 2 days before our May 26 Getaway cruise. Looking on the Bahn.de website, a group rate starts at 6 people. Is there a great rate for 5 traveling together? The 4 for 68 rate breaks down to about 17 euro each...is it simplistic of me to think a 5th person would be 17 euro also? Not sure if we are going to try and purchase our tickets online prior to leaving the US or buy at the station before we depart.

    Thank again for your help.

    Deb

    Hi Deb,

    Thank you for your appreciation.

The fares quoted by Sauer Kraut from my web site will rise as from mid December. I am in the process of updating the site (fares, timetables etc) for 2017 and hope to have it finished by next week so please bear with me.

If you are certain of your travel dates it is a good idea to buy the special tickets (for regional RE trains) on-line shortly before leaving home to avoid wasting time in queues. Of course full price, standard tickets for the long distance, express trains (IC/ICE) should be be bought 3 months in advance to get the best deals.

Please check the web site later next week for the updates.

    Happy cruising :)

  9. TravelAnni,

We have another question about the Schönes Wochenende Ticket. We are going to try to catch the 8:34 train departing Rostock Hbf to Berlin Hbf on Saturday, Sept. 3, but it will be tight. If are running out of time, is it possible to purchase the ticket on the train?

Or if we bought a ticket for the later train at 10:38, but were able to make the earlier train, could we still use the ticket or change it onboard?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Christy

Hi, this ticket can be used on any RE, RB or s-Bahn train any time between midnight and 3am Saturday or Sunday. In other words you can buy it in advance, use it on the s-Bahn between Warnemunde and Rostock, catch whichever RE you like from Rostock to Berlin and then use it on the s-Bahn to get around Berlin.

I would strongly recommend buying on-line as it saves time on the day.

    Happy cruising :)

  10. Dear Travelanni. We arrive in Warnemunde next July on celebrity eclipse

I wonder if you could help me out.

I am traveling with my wife and 5yr old son and we are keen to visit Berlin. The ship offers a tour but it's 3hrs by bus each way!!

Is there a train service to Berlin that's better and then we could explore on our own maybe? This or any other advice is gratefully received. My apologies if you have answered something similar before.

    Rich [emoji2]

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

    Hi Rich,

Sorry to have to tell you but it is around three hours each way from Warnemunde to Berlin however you do it.

The train service is every two hours from Rostock but unfortunately it does not mesh well with docking times of most ships.

Some of the cruise lines and private companies offer 'transport only' to Berlin and you can then explore on your own but Berlin is very spread out and you can waste precious time finding your way around.

I am a fan of DIY touring but if you are intent on visiting Berlin from Warnemunde then I would recommend using a tour company. Reading through this forum you will find several which are highly recommended.

Many people from UK skip Berlin as they say it is almost as cheap to fly there for a few days and see much more than you can in the six or so hours you have from a cruise ship.

There are some nice alternatives, suitable for children, including the beautiful little seaside town of Warnemunde itself. For more details please see my web site.

    Happy cruising:)

  11. Our ship, the Pullmantur Monarch is scheduled to dock at 7am on Sept. 10th at Warnemunde Seehafen L31. That is not the main port, and I would like to confirm that I know the best way to get to Berlin.

Option 1: Catch a taxi to Rostock HBF and try to catch the 8:34 train to Berlin HBF. It is an RE train, qualifies for the Schönes-Wochenende discount, and would have us in Berlin at 11:11. Will there be taxis waiting at the pier, and could you give me some kind of idea as to the cost?

Option 2: We may not be off the ship in time to do Option 1, but the next option would be departing Seehafen at 9:02 when bus 49 heads to Rostock HBF Sud. I assume that Sud only refers to the south side of the train station. There is no connecting train to Berlin, however, until 10:49, and that would be an ICE train, so we could not get the discount.

Option 3: If it takes longer than that to be processed and get off the ship, then the next available departure is 12:34. If this happens, is there anywhere we could store our luggage for an hour or so to go tour Rostock for a bit? And how do we get the scenic area of Rostock?

We are staying at Titanic Deluxe Berlin, and I am assuming that Berlin HBF is the destination I should be using. We will probably just take a taxi from there.

I am a little compulsive about having a plan. Can someone please confirm that I am reading everything (schedules) correctly, headed to the right places, etc.?

Are there any other suggestions or things that I have not thought of?

Thanks so much for your thoughts & suggestions! It makes our travel experience so much smoother!

Hi, in answer to your questions:-

Option 1. Your times are correct. There will be taxis and the cost should be around 35 euro.

Option 2. Your times are correct but the train may take a little longer than scheduled owing to track work. Sud refers to the South entrance to the station where the buses stop. If you booked now, on line, there is a special fare of 29 euro pp.

Option 3. There are several sets of luggage lockers on the station. To reach the centre of Rostock you go to the underground level of the station, platform marked 'city' and take a number 5 or 6 tram to stops Neu Markt, Langestr or Kroepeliner Tor.

Berlin Hbf is the most convenient. There are always plenty of taxis.

    Happy cruising :)

  12. Yes, I'll do my best to help you here! First some basic information:

There is a very good and frequent public transport; info at http://www.hvv.de (switch to 'English' at the bottom of that page). Ticket machines offer 'English' at the bottom as well. Single ticket from airport to city center for example costs € 3.20, a day ticket for unlimited use of public transport for one day € 6.20 (valid in 'Großbereich Hamburg', rings A+B from monday to friday 09:00am to 06:00am the next morning; on weekend and public holidays 24hrs). Public transport includes Bus / U-Bahn (metro) / S-Bahn (MRT) / harbor ferry lines / regional trains within the system, but no taxis and harbor cruises, of course.

In Germany, Cash Payment is usual / customary! In hotels, for car rental, credit cards are accepted, in public transport, you are advised to pay cash.

Please don't expect people to speak English - this also applies for public transport and taxis - except in hotels and tourist info, of course. Most foreign languages spoken in Hamburg are from eastern Europe, Islamic countries, and increasingly, southern Europe; we have the biggest Portugese community in Germany, with some good restaurants. If you need help, look for younger people or those who walk around in suits.

If you're searching for a Hotel, booking.com (select 'Hamburg, Hansestadt Hamburg, Germany') and hrs.de (switch to your language) offer the greatest choice; then activate filter 'Distance to Downtown / City Center'; tripadvisor.com will also get you a good selection. Refer to the map view to see the location of hotels.

The point is, you can get to most sights by Walking if you choose a hotel within or at the half circle around the city center. If you look at the map at Tripadvisor for example, the half circle is limited by the park 'Planten un Blomen' in the west, the 'Kennedybrucke' in the north, the central station in the east, and the half circle also includes our new 'Hafen City' with famous 'Speicherstadt' (ware-/storehouse district; UNESCO heritage) in the south east, with some very new hotels, and the famous new 'Elbphilharmonie'. Comfortable walking time from one point to it's farthest within this half circle is less than 1 hour.

If you hear Hamburger's talking about the 'most beautiful city', they speak about Hamburg itself! This is just because Hamburg is indeed the most beautiful city, and because were are cultivating some decent hanseatic arrogance.

If you have no idea of Hamburg or don't know what to visit, just take a look to my Photo Collection, which includes nearly all important places of interest, except museums, hotels and the like:

    http://s1153.photobucket.com/user/janmartin03/Hamburg/story

Scroll through it and click on an image to see the description. Some images are from our famous 'Harbor Birthday' (1st or 2nd weekend in May every year; expect hotels to be outsold in greater Hamburg area), and 'Blue Port' ('Cruise Days' every 2 years).

Hamburg is a very Cosmopolitan city, a melting pot, with lots of tourists, so ...

    Welcome To Hamburg !

Many thanks to happy_travellers and JMHamburg for this thread.

Of the many cities which I have visited around the world Hamburg is my favourite and if I had to live in a big city it would be my choice.

It is my 'shopping city' and I visit frequently but obviously my knowledge cannot compare with that of someone who lives there.

In the past I have tried to answer questions about Hamburg, Bremen etc. posed on my 'NE Germany' thread when no one else seemed interested but I am more than happy to leave questions on places west of the Elbe to someone with more knowledge than myself and stick to my own area ie. Rostock, Schwerin, Wismar, Stralsund, Berlin etc. and other places easily accessible from Warnemunde.

    Keep up the good work.

    Happy cruising :)

  13. Got to stop to thank you for this post even it has was so long ago you might never see this reply. I have been searching all day for this precise info and am so grateful to find it. Thanks again and I look forward to visiting Germany once again in a couple of weeks. :)

Hi, thank you for your appreciation.

As you say, the post is very old so the prices quoted are not the same. For up-to-date fares please see my web site.

  14. (Bolding by me)

I really don't want to correct you, but as I live in that country I wouldn't want to use the right lane for overtaking - that's the English way of driving "on the wrong side of the road"

The right lane is the slow one, mostly used by coaches and vans and slow traffic , the left lane is the fast one and I really mean fast!!! Be prepared for cars flashing their lights behind you if you roll along at "only" 180 km/h.... (120 m/h)

Quite right! Driving that way would be certain death.

I seem to be unable to get right and left the proper way round either in writing or verbally. 'Never listen to my mouth, always watch my hands' is my advice when giving directions but unfortunately no-one could see my hands and this terrible faux pas illustrates my problem perfectly.

    I am mortified.

Wish someone had pounced on it straight away. Thanks, gray jay.

  15. Hi Annie

We are starting to plan for next years Norway to Arctic Circle cruise from Hamburg. I am so confused as to what area to look at for hotels. We will have 3 days , 2 nights so would like to be central. Hotel with some character would be great, mid-price excellent.

Just from looking at trip advisor I liked Hotel Bellevue and the Movenpick and the Empire Riverside but not sure to base in which area.

Also some ideas on best sights to see and those to miss would be most helpful.

    Thank you so much, Karen

Hi, as I only visit Hamburg on day trips I'm afraid I have no knowledge of the hotels. Maybe one of our Hamburg residents could help there.

I am on holiday in Australia until September with very little internet access but you will find more info regarding best sights to see etc on Hamburg-travel.com

  16. Hi Anni thanks for this great thread. Is renting a car in Warnemunde and driving to Berlin just to park it and tour on our own a good option? It appears I could rent a car for less than 100euro versus pay the cruise line 200euro per person for a train (600 euro). Is the drive pretty easy? We're arriving on August 1 (Monday).

Anyone have experience with renting a car in Warnemunde? Is Hertz best?

    Thoughts? Thank you

Hi, thank you for your appreciation.

Cost wise it seems to be a very good option. The drive is easy, all autobahn but beware of roadworks etc. holding up traffic and allow yourself a good margin when returning.

Most people park at a convenient s-Bahn station in the suburbs but some OPs have reported parking right in the city without hassle. Maybe someone who has done this journey could help here ?

Sorry for the scarce info but I am on holiday in Australia with only my iPad and limited internet access.

    Happy cruising :)

  17. Hi Anni,

Thanks very much for your very informative website. Our cruise ship is arriving in Rostock LP31 on a Sunday and no ship shuttle information is available. Could you help with the following questions?

    - If taking the bus from Seehafen, would we only have option to pay single fare (local day pass only available at stations?)

    - If single fare: is it exact cash, change given by driver, or credit card?

    - If we get the Lander ticket for Schwerin, it includes the S-bahn between Rostock and Warnemunde (Whereas the local Rostock ticket includes S-bahn AND tram)?

    - Finally, any difficulties with taxis being available at Seehafen on a Sunday early morning?

Thanks again for all the information. We're very much looking forward to visiting your part of the world :)

Hi, thank you for your appreciation.

You can buy a local transport day ticket on the bus.

All local transport tickets are available from machines situated on all buses and trams and at some bus stops. The machines have instructions in English, give change up to 10€ notes and take cards with a PIN. The driver does not handle tickets.

Correct - if you have a Lander ticket and wish to visit Rostock City you need a Ticket for the tram from Rostock main station.

I have no experience of taxis from the Seehafen but expect that there will be plenty. If you wish to order in advance, Google Rostock taxis and you will find the appropriate page. Sorry this info is a bit vague but I am on holidays in Australia and have only my iPad and very limited internet access.

    Happy cruising :)

  18. Hi,

Thanks for all the wonderful information posted here. I'll be in Warnemunde on Monday, August 1 with my family. Based on my research, it looks like many of the museums and the Schwerin castle will be closed on Monday. We plan on doing a loop which would include Schwerin, but I wanted to get your thoughts on whether there will be more to see in Lubeck or Wismar. We open to renting a car if that will give us more flexibility.

    Thank you for your advice.

Hi, thank you for your appreciation.

Luebeck has more museums etc, some of which are open on Monday during the season, as well as great historical architecture but of course it is further away. It would be my choice with a car. A good site for information on the museums opening hours is

    http://www.luebeck-tourism.de

    This site is in English.

Wismar has lots of restored Medieval buildings and can be easily combined with Schwerin by train.

Naturally you are much more flexible with a car and could include short stops at other places too.

    Happy cruising :)

  19. :confused

Thank you all for your answers! It is so helpful!

May I ask one last one?

If we did this loop, it is doable? What order do you suggest?

We arrive in Warnemunde Wed Aug 3rd 9:30 AM- Midnight (we are renting a car)

Could we do a loop of Rostock, Ludwigslust, Sauchenhausen Memorial and Museum?

Any hints or tips on Rostock and Ludwigslust?

Thanks again so very much! I will post some photos of our adventures here afterwards, in case it help future travelers!

Not quite sure about your plans. Do you mean Sachenhausen concentration camp or the Stasi museum as suggested?

The former is close to Berlin, around 200klm from Warnemunde. Assuming you have the car by 10am and went to Berlin first you could be there by 12:30. The museum needs at least 2-3 hrs. Everything in Ludwigslust is accessible at any time but the museums in Rostock close at 6pm

However, if you mean the latter then the loop is definitely doable although I would do Rostock first as the museum has opening hours whereas the other places are accessible any time.

Although we have long evenings of daylight and some ships have quite late departures cruisers need to be aware that museums etc close at 6pm.

    Happy cruising :)

  20. Hi Anni,

I can't see my original post so, I am reposting...

We arrive in Warnemunde on Wed Aug 3 at 9:30 AM depart at midnight. We spent a lot of time in Berlin last year (beautiful city!) so we wanted to do something different.

My 13 yo son loves, loves, loves history, particularly WWII and military (we have a few military museum stops in other ports. We all three love history and art.

We are renting a car and we are thinking of going to Hamburg. Do you think that is a good idea? Can you suggest that or another itinerary? DO you know of any good museums in any direction that you would recommend?

Thanks so very much for any suggestions and advice,

    Stephanie, John and Lucas

Hi, I am on holiday in Australia at the moment so do not have any info at hand but will do my best.

Hamburg is a very interesting place with some great museums but very little in the way of military history.

If you have car you have more possibilities than someone with public transport only as most military museums are a bit off the beaten track.

The one which springs to mind is Peenemunde, the site of the rocket development in the 30's and 40's. Also a military museum near Ribbnitz-Darmgarten not far from Warnemunde which I believe specialises in tanks etc. And a Cold War neuclear weapon control centre not far from Rostock but I am not sure Quite where. In Rostock there is the Stasi Museum housed in the old Stasi prison.

Sorry I can't be of more help but this is a question which has never come up before so I have never researched it. I suggest that you try googling 'Mecklenburg Military Museums'.

    Happy cruising :)

Hi, sorry but this should read 'A Mecklenburg Lander ticket will cost 4 adults 35€ in total'.

That is 23€ for the first person and 4€ for each additional person, up to a total of 5 persons on one ticket.

Maths never was my strong point

  22. Thank you to both Travelanni and GradUT....I appreciate your responses and information.

We have a rental car on hold in Rostock and area also considering just taking the train to Schwerin. Travelanni....do you recommend taking the train over getting a car? We are a family of four adults. Do you recall if the train was more than $25/person RT?

Hi, this is a very personal choice as both have pros and cons. The train is less stressful, someone else does the driving, but with a car you are more flexible and can probably see more.

A Mecklenburg Lander day ticket will cost 4 adults 32€ in total. This ticket is valid on s-Bahn, RE and RB (red) trains anywhere in Mecklenburg ,all day after 9am on weekdays or after 3am on weekends. For full details see my web site - tickets page.

  23. That's very strange, we're also on this cruise & I had an email many months ago advising that the ship was now docking at Warnemunde NOT Rostock. There was also an advisory about it when trying to book on Celebrity website. Unfortunately this is not available anymore as it looks like the cruise is fully booked.

Hi, on the official Port of Rostock web site - Cruise Ship calls 2016, the Celebrity Eclipse is definitely scheduled to berth on July 20th at LP31 in the Overseas Port, not at the Cruise Centre in Warnemunde.

This could change but deviation from the official schedule is very rare. It might be a good idea to check with Celebrity.

    Happy cruising :)

  24. We are docking at LH31 in Rostock Port on the Celebrity Eclipse July 20th. Does anyone know if there is a car rental facility at that port? Or if the train is easy to get to?

This is NOT the cruise terminal in Warnemunde....this is the port where the ferries dock. The cruise terminal piers are full the day we arrive. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi, I have made a page on my web site for those docking at berths LP31 and LP41 in the Overseas Port detailing all the alternatives for public transport etc. to Rostock City, Rostock main station and Warnemunde. Things have changed a bit in the past year.

    Happy cruising :)
