  1. Kim,

Great review, as always.  Thanks for posting this and creating a home for your adventures.  Members here that have not clicked over are really missing a wonderful read.

No mermaid metamorphosis this trip, maybe I missed this if it happened.  Very sad if this is over.

See, vacation planners are very important 🤣

Will you let us know (here) whenever you start posting the trip report on the Cozumel boards?

+1, please let us know.  Always a great adventure.

I know people that travel like this.  They do no planning or research.  Come back from a great place and missed all the fun stuff to do because they did no research at all.  It's not like it takes hours and hours to google a location.

Not sure how many people are still following this thread, but since we didn't get our passports back in time for another "out of the US vacation", we decided to spend 10 days in Florida and hit up most of the Disney theme parks. If you are interested, I am starting a review on it on my website.

    Kim,

Great review as always.  Thanks for taking the time.

Kendra and family at Disney & Orlando would have added more drama and fun to this vacation review.  Her interaction with you is always so enjoyable to read.

Sorry it will be awhile before I continue. Fell at gas station and broke leg in both fib and fib and ankle yesterday and have been in the hospital. Surgery today to get plates screws and who knows what else. I’m going to be down for several months so once I get moving around I’ll get going.

    Kim,

If I had to make a list of items most likely to injure you, my list would contain:

    • Dune buggy, boat, ATV, sea-do, motorcycle, golf cart, moped accident.
    • Scuba or snorkeling accident.
    • Something to do with Kendra.  Her punctuality and a weak heart.  Pet monkey bite.
    • Crocodile, alligator, eel, arapaima, great white, puffer fish attack because of all the time you spend in the water.
    • norovirus from being on so many cruises.

Filling your car up with gas would not have been on my list.  Especially an injury this severe.  Although I am joking with my post, this injury looks so bad and I hope you get back to cruising, work, and your real life very soon.

As always, love the reviews.  Hadn't expected to see one until fall from you so this review was a surprise.

If you can find a full service gas station going forward, might be money well spent once you re-gain your health.

Hope my post made you smile.

We decided to find a table and order something to eat. Only all of a sudden Billy couldn't even walk...or stand...or hardly talk. What the heck was wrong with him? He was fine one minute and not the next. What did this guy do to him? Did he slip something in his drink? We had no idea. He was no longer around. I still wonder if Billy can back with the same amount of money he went to Roatan with. He usually has a pretty big "wad" with him and he might have flashed it too much when paying for drinks. We'll never know I guess. We just know he wasn't functional.

The guys kinda hung out at the bar most of the day. Prior to leaving for this cruise (a week) the guys went in on a business together and it was very hectic the week before leaving. They were on their phones a lot and making sure that their new business they left behind was running smoothly.

    Hey Kim:

Long time reader, you are almost the only reason I check back here from time to time. Great review! Have a few questions.

What kind of new business did hubby open?

From past reviews, I know that your family does not drink much, even when you have the free drink package. It was so odd to read about the Roatan experience and Billy. Getting drunk to the point of not being able to walk while watching a child was very out of character based on past reviews for your family. Did Billy have a theory about what happened to him?

Where to next? Will 2018 have both land based and cruise vacations or will you return to just cruise vacations?

    Bruce...

  6. Unfortunately...I won't be cruising this summer as planned. I have tried and tried to find something that interest me and the only thing I could find was repeating THIS Fascination cruise again. However, I wanted to stay at the same place (El Conquistador) because we absolutely loved it there and wanted to spend more time. However, they are completely booked up. The other places we stayed at (before and after) are doubled in price now. I got so frustrated trying to find something, that I completely decided we just weren't cruising this time around and we are doing a land vacation at the end of the month instead....ARUBA! :D

Will we still get a detailed review here of your land only vacation?

  7. On our PC cruise, we had a port hole room on the 4th floor and paid almost nothing for it. Except for sleeping, didn't spend almost a moment in the room. As we entered, went though, and finally existed the canal, we were all over the ship. Listening to the narration the entire time. No, I don't think that a balcony would be essential.

  8. I hope you enjoyed the review. I will do a follow up on my thoughts...but I'm off to do a few things around the house now.

Another great review and you and your family turned it around from your first port. I didn't want this to end with Kim writing "I'm never going on an extended family cruise again". :D:D:D

Did you post anything on going on the Epic a second time? Your cruising ship rule is one and done.

    •
    • Did going on the Epic a second time at all tarnish your very positive memories of the ship?
    • Are there any other ships that you now would like to re-cruise on?
    • Did the Epic seem more crowded this time around?
    • Is the Epic still your favorite ship of all times? I would believe that your favorite ship is the next one that you will cruise on.

Thank you for taking time out of your very busy schedule to do this. If you didn't post reviews, doubt that I would visit this forum much. Hope that a surprise birthday, anniversary, ground hog day, or daylight savings time cruise heads your way. You deserve an extra late winter or mid-winter cruise.

I've posted this often but I still cannot believe that cruise lines don't offer you and your family free cruises. Excursion operators and hotels don't offer you their products for free. Your endorsement and travel experiences carry a lot of weight with me.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  9. We always talk about moving to Florida just so we can be closer to the ports (and also I absolutely hate the cold and snow).

My wife and I talk about becoming snow birds (Florida) in the next 5-10 years and being able to drive to Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Port Canaveral for cruises at a moment's notice. Would have to fly friends and family down to watch our pets during our trips. Retirement is going to fit really well.

  10. Best friend had emergency air-vac from Jamacia to Miami, no ins, $32,000, tough to break even in this case. Very severe leg break on zip-line, you never know, just takes once.

Seems like every cruise that I've been on, the ship had an at sea air-vac, pull along coast guard boat, or ambulance waiting for a passenger at one of the ports. People get hurt or sick on vacations all the time. Not just older people either.

I'm not poor but would struggle to come up with $32,000 on a moment's notice so that I could obtain health care. Hope they take plastic, and more than one card.

  11. 50+ cruises - never bought insurance and never needed it:D

Like all insurance products that I purchase, home, health, auto, life, umbrella, I hope to never use the products but the insurance benefits are there if needed. Kind of the way insurance works. Glad that you never needed it over your 50 cruises but if you have an issue with your 51st cruise, you accept the downside risk of not having it. Not a big deal for some like yourself but would be a crisis for others. If you ever have to be evacuated, at least you know the costs and are educated on the risk you accept. You have a plan that works for you. Your plan is not a one size fits all though, solution.
