I haven’t done that, partly because I try to get back to sleep and having to go through that in the early hours would then keep me awake for ages afterwards.

I didn’t get disturbed the following night, but last night I was woken at 2.50am by the woman in the next cabin talking at full volume yet again. At one stage I heard her say “oh no!” but then I didn’t hear anything after that, which seemed odd. I’m beginning to wonder if she talks in her sleep.

Sadly, some people just suffer from verbal diarrhoea and have a pressing urge to talk for all their waking hours. The woman in the next cabin fits that bill, as does a Welsh chap in the dining room who is incapable of not talking constantly. He sometimes comes down without his wife and talks constantly to those on adjacent tables. He’s got a thick Welsh accent and talks extremely quickly, and I’m in admiration of the guests either side, none of whom are British, for being able to understand and engage with him. We dodged a bullet, as the first table we were offered (which we declined) would have been next to him. It’s irritating enough from where we are, but having to endure it directly every meal would drive me nuts. It’s a shame that some people don’t respect the fact that people often ask for a table for two because they don’t want to have to engage in constant conversation every mealtime.

I once had a cabin next to someone who had nightmares every night and would cry out several times during the night. After two nights of this, I changed my cabin. Too bad the insulation isn’t better on most ships.

Just to reiterate my point that those reporting no noise disturbance in cabins is most likely down to the fact that they have been fortunate to have had considerate neighbours both sides of them, rather than the construction of the ship, I was woken after 1am this morning by our inconsiderate neighbours. It’s always the same side and it’s not crashing and banging, it’s talking. What they find to talk about incessantly after 1 o’clock in the morning is beyond me 😡

Have you tried calling them, even at 1AM, to ask them to please lower the volume of their voices, TV, etc. so that you can sleep? I have done this when I was disturbed, and it actually worked. Hopefully, it may embarrass them and they may quiet down.

When are you sailing? What ship?  Is this your June 14th trip on the Island?

If so, there is not a TD at this time, after Sep 14th, should have that option.

Right now, it’s my time dining, so you select the MDR you want, the time, private or sharing a table.  That will give you a table sharing, if you want, same time.  If you hit it off with the group, 1st night, you can ask others if they want the same table every night and ask head waiter or host at the MDR to do that assignment every night.

If you are referring to a cruise leaving this June 14th, you should be able to book without error, but as we know IT is reprogramming the MDR concept of dining after Sep 14th and it IS affecting a lot of other folks trying to book.  So, if you have a TA/CVP, I’d ask if they can help or just go to your MDR of choice on the first night and ask them to book you.

Check with others on your roll call, are they also having issues?

As far as MDR, we usually pick one of the midship ones, due to location to our cabin.  If we were in an Aft cabin, probably would pick the Aft MDR.  All are same menu.

    Welcome back!

Yes, June 14 is the date. Thanks for your advice.

  4. I am Platinum on Princess, but my last Princess cruise was 20 years ago. We had traditional dining and enjoyed being at the same table at the same time with the same people each evening. I am not sure how dining works at this time.
How do I get a reservation for TD same time, same table each night. I am happy to share a table as I am a solo traveler.

What dining room is preferred? Provence or Bordeaux?

I have tried booking in the App, but keep getting “error” each time.

    Thanks for any advice.

I just booked a suite for the Equinox was debating.  Can't you eat in the MDR also or at Blu?

Our last cruise was in a sky suite on Celebrity. We did not like the food in Luminae and were able to eat in Blu and the MDR. However, we were told to speak with the MaitreD in Blu to be sure they could accommodate us in the evening.

I am not sure how accurate this is, but I talked to an officer on board and he said that Queen Anne had requested that 30% of staff came from each ship ie 90% of staff would be from the other Queens. The other Queens didn't agree to this, and so they settled on 20% from each ship.

You can tell the difference in who is new and who is not - in our first stateroom the prosecco was in a wine bucket, but there was no napkin or plate under the ice bucket, so there was water from condensation all over the table, we had to move to another stateroom yesterday, and lo and behold the ice bucket was on a plate, and there was a napkin. Small issue, but an example of the difference between new and seasoned staff.

Why did you have to move to another stateroom?

  7. I loved sailing on Navigator after sailing on Explorer and Splendor. I found it smaller and more comfortable, easier to get around. I would avoid aft cabins because of vibration.

  8. I suggest that you call Azamara directly and ask whether a YF vaccination or a doctor’ s letter exempting you from this shot is necessary before booking this cruise. Better safe than sorry.

  9. We have avoided the Amazon because of Yellow Fever. We were told that if you cruised there, a Yellow Fever shot was very highly recommended. All cruise lines required proof of that shot before you were allowed to board. At our ages, this shot was problematical because of dire side reactions, so we never got it, and never sailed the Amazon.

April 15, 2024–bumping along in the North Atlantic

The seas picked up again through the night, and the room did a lot of creaking and groaning all night long, punctuated by occasional loud thumps from somewhere outside the room.  We went ahead yet another hour.

I made myself get up and go to yoga.  Class was challenging due to the motion of the ship.  We then had a leisurely breakfast in La Veranda.  Skies were overcast, and it was chilly and windy outside.  Walking track and outdoors decks still closed.

I went for a pedicure, and it was a really good one.  And amazingly, the price was what I normally pay at home.

The pool deck lunch was Indian food, which George does not prefer, so we decided to go to Prime 7 for lunch.  The menu is totally different than for dinner.  I had a Manhattan clam chowder and Caesar salad with shrimp.  George’s port ribs were just ok according to him, but his shrimp and grits were delicious.

After lunch, the sun had come out, and even though it was still very windy, the sea had calmed enough that the powers that be deemed it safe to open the walking track on deck 12.  I put on a windbreaker and got my steps.  Love, love the walking track.  It is coated with an anti skid material that has a slight sponginess to it.  Very comfortable and safe.

We were back to second at Trivia. I calculated the year the euro became the official currency in Europe based on the ages of my children when we visited there, but got over ruled.

The seas really suddenly picked up again just as trivia was ending.  There were a lot of bumping noises and creaky sounds in our suite.

Tonight was the Event for the upper tier society members.  It was a special performance by the guest vocalists and they were great.

Dinner in Pacific Rim was very good.  This isn’t my favorite restaurant, but I have figured out what I like.  George loves it, so we compromise.  He had sushi and sashimi.  I had the watermelon and duck salad, spring rolls and lobster tempura, all very delicious.  Best part for me is that they have really nice tea, not the Twinning that is served elsewhere on the ship.

The ship was severely rocking by the end of dinner.  I went to the magician show, and he had to sit down.  But he was funny and did some good illusions.

Were you able to get much sleep in this cabin with the groaning and creaking and banging? Is this a nightly occurrence or just during rough seas? Also, could you please tell me the approximate location of your cabin for future booking information. We had a cabin on the Splendor that had the same problems. We changed our cabin after the first night on board.

  11. My son and DIL are thinking of joining me on a fall cruise on Journey. There is availability of an aft facing balcony cabin on deck 6. Question: Is it a noisy cabin; a lot of vibration, engine noise, etc.? All day at sea or only when ship is coming into or leaving a port?
