  1. From another forum. ...there is a lot of confusion about the difference between a Guarantee Status Stateroom and IGT/OGT/VGT bookings.

    What is Guarantee Status?

Guarantee Status means that when you book a particular category, Disney is not able to assign you a stateroom number at the time of booking. As you get closer to your sail date, Disney will assign you a room number. You can end up in any stateroom that is in the category you booked. However, at their discretion, Disney may upgrade you. It's not necessarily likely that you'll receive an upgrade - but it is possible.

If you try to book a stateroom and you want to be next to or near (or maybe, even - far away from) a particular stateroom, you may wish to book a the next highest category so you can confirm a particular stateroom number where you need it.

This is just like any other Disney Cruise Line booking. There's nothing special about; other than the fact that you won't know which particular stateroom you're in. All the normal deposit, change and cancellation policies will apply.

On some confirmations/documentation, you'll see this referred to as "GTY". That's an abbreviation for Guarantee status.

Guarantee status is similar to a room assignment. Suppose you book category 8A. You go to pick a room, and you must select "guarantee status". You would then talk about this as "category 8A, guarantee status".

    What is IGT/OGT/VGT?

IGT/OGT/VGT is a special type of discount program. In return for some very strict cancellation/change policies, Disney will sell you a stateroom that is an Inside Stateroom (IGT), and Oceanview Stateroom (OGT) or a Verandah Stateroom (VGT). You can end up in ANY category on a particular ship that is within the those types of staterooms.

Categories for staterooms on the Wonder/Magic:

    Inside (IGT): 10A, 10B, 10C, 11A, 11B, 11C

    Oceanview (OGT): 9A, 9B, 9C, 9D

    Verandah (VGT): 4A, 4B, 4E, 5A, 5B, 5C, 6A, 7A

Categories for staterooms on the Dream/Fantasy:

    Inside (IGT): 10A, 11A, 11B, 11C

    Oceanview (OGT): 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D, 9A, 9B, 9C, 9D

    Verandah (VGT): 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5E, 6A, 6B, 7A

IGT/OGT/VGT staterooms are not available on every sailing. If they're available for the sailing you're looking at, it will be the first option listed when you click on "Inside Staterooms", "Oceanview Staterooms" or "Staterooms with Verandah" on the Disney Cruise Line booking engine.

When you book one of these rooms, you can end up in ANY of the above listed categories that falls into the class you booked (Inside, Oceanview or Verandah). In exchange for the lower price, you give up not only knowing where your stateroom will be, but also which category it will be. Further, no changes are permitted to one of these booking. Payment is due, in full, at the time of booking. Once it's booked, THAT'S IT. No changes. No sail date changes. No passenger changes. No name changes. Nothing. It is also completely non-refundable. You will lose everything if you try to cancel one of these. Additionally, once you are assigned a stateroom, again - that's it. You have no recourse to change the room.

The only way one of these staterooms is similar to Guarantee Status is that you don't know where the room will be located.

IGT/OGT/VGT is a stateroom CATEGORY. If you book one of these, you refer to it as OGT, IGT or VGT. (Or, if you're speaking of them in general terms, people will sometimes say *GT or XGT)

There's a lot of posts on the board that confuse the two. If you're wondering when you'll get out of Guarantee Status and have a stateroom assignment, you can refer to "guarantee status", "guarantee", "gty" or "GTY" in your question or post.

If you're wondering when you'll get your stateroom assignment based on an IGT/OGT/VGT, reference it as IGT, OGT or VGT.

Hopefully that will help clear up the confusion between the two.

  2. That New York to Bahamas cruise was sold out! I know because my husband and I tried to upgrade and were told there was nothing available as everything was sold out. Everyone that was on the ship was overjoyed at not having to fly as they were able to spend that money on board. If you sold every cabin, what would have made it impressive? A gladiator fight for a balcony cabin?:D

They had to offer discounts to fill them and not all were full.

  3. By booking GTY' date=' you have given DCL the right to place you in any cabin on the ship of at least the category you have selected or better. Your best bet at this point is to keep watching the web site. If you see a room of the category you have booked become available, call DCL immediately and ask them to assign you to that cabin. Then put a note on the reservation asking them to NOT upgrade you.[/quote']

FYI most GTY bookings on Disney are assigned cabin numbers approximately 60 to 50 days out. Good luck and keeping checking your reservation on the DCL website to see when it's assigned.

  4. Has anyone ever received OBC credit after booking a cruise 12 months before it sails? Booked back in November 2013 for upcoming cruise in November 2014. Rates have gone up $140.00 since booking. We did not use a Disney Visa card or go thru Disney Cruise but a TA. Cruise was paid off months ago. Just curious.

Not sure what you mean OBC before you sail?

Are you talking about a refund of port charges on your credit card before you sail?

If your saying that as the price has gone up will your OBC Go up in line with the cruise price increase no it is set on the day it was booked.

  5. Thanks for the info about the card. So, is there an advantage/disadvantage to using the room card or is a different card better?

The only thing is you bypass the energy saving

If you leave the room, you need your card with you, to get back in, to get off in port, to charge on. So some people put another card in that slot to keep it all on, keep air con on or their batteries for cameras charging.

Any card will do, but energy saving is there for a good reason.

  6. So you're all saying you think New Year's will be pirate night?

I only expected fireworks once but just wondered if they would change Pirate night to the first sea day (without the the fireworks) and have a formal night (with the fireworks) on the last sea day. (New Years)

Thanks once again Moki'sMommmy - when the cruise gets closer I'll call Disney.

Most cruise line central offices have no idea what the programming is on their ships. It's nice to hear Disney is different.

They will not swap it formal night will be the first sea day.

  7. We'll be sailing on the Fantasy over New Years.

The second day is a sea day and New Year's Eve (second to last day) is a sea day.

I originally thought New Year's would be a formal night and they would save the fireworks until then but then wondered if Disney would just make that night Pirate's Night.

Does anyone have any experience with sailing over New Year's and what Disney does with Pirate Night on a New Year's cruise?

(Only asking because our granddaughter is deciding when to schedule her Bibbity Bobbity Boutique experience.)

    Thanks!

Fireworks are normally just one night I do not think they would change it myself. They do not change it for 4th July, the suppliers of the fireworks deliver to a port for it to go on the ship there are limitations on how much and how long they gave them onboard. So I wouldn't think they would change it but gave an internal celebration that night. To add there are a lot of children onboard they will not all stay awake to midnight, and wouldn't want yo be woken by fireworks.

Have Bibbity Bobbity Boutique experience first see day for formal night.

  8. I have only cruised RCI before, but have booked a 5 night on the Wonder out of Miami. We are flying out of Ft. Lauderdale. We will have a private transfer pick up our group (of 8, including 4 kids) and take us to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. My question is what is a realistic time to expect to be off the ship (I know there can be extreme situations, etc.). But, we would rather get a mid-day and avoid lots of airport time with 4 kids under 6! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would say 8 am to 9am, I have not cruised in/ out of Miami with DCL but the port set up is similar to any other and all DCL cruises I have been on have a window of getting off between 7.30 and 9.00am.

Any flight past Noon should be safe.

  9. What night was the fire works? I assume it was the Sea Day Night ???

On a three night cruise there isn't a sea day but you are at sea at night, search online for DCL Navigators and they will tell you what night pirate night is that's when the fireworks are put up. Often the middle night so one you have a second chance to fire them if the weather was bad and most cruisers are packing last night.

  10. Can you pls explain what you mean about the magnetic strip Card for the door - I am clueless as to what that even is. Thanks

It's one car like a credit card that is your room key, ID, charge card on the ship, etc,

On the new ships as you enter your room, you slot it in the slot and the power comes on, if you leave and take it the power goes off.

  11. When is the character breakfast on the Alaska cruises ?

You are allocated " one" there are three rotations but your allocated one of them, in fact overall there are six as there is the main early sitting and the late sitting.

They will be on the two sea days and Aldo the morning of Tracy Arm.

I have actually been on a Wonder DCL Alaska cruise navigators and photos in the link below, they started at 8 am and had the normal characters in parrot cay.

Late sitting can clash with palo brunch,

Normally it's the first morning (as above ) following Animators palette dinner.

  12. We're going to be sailing on the Fantasy at the end of August. My MIL has a gluten AND dairy allergy (she can eat eggs). She's very concerned that there will not be any good desserts that she can eat (that they'll just offer her fruit with each meal.) I know that Disney is really good about accommodating allergies, but how about accommodating both of these allergies in one person? My guess is that they have some gluten free stuff, but it might not be dairy free also.

She did call DCL to have her allergy noted on the reservation and I know that she'll talk with a chef when we get there, but I was hoping to calm her concerns about desserts.

    Thank you!

They are very good at it do speak to them again just before the cruise to endure that note is on they can drop off and Aldo speak yo your head server on embarkation to endure, often if it's not on the menu they will take an over in the evening and make it up special the next day for your next meal they are very very good at it, also at buffets a head server will always be around maybe not yours but there will be one.

  13. I was simply curious about Shmoo's statement that there are specialty coffee and tea packages. Hadn't heard of it. Heard of the card, but not a "package".

Agree no package but you have a card and get locality stamps and so it's something like buy six and get one free, there are no packages.

  14. Q:

What should I wear to dinner?

    A:

The dress code for dinner varies by the venue or theme night of your cruise. In general, most meals are "cruise casual"—no swimwear or tank tops. Most cruises also have special theme nights with optional opportunities to get dressed up for a special family photo. Here's a breakdown of events by cruise itinerary:

    On 3-night cruises:

•One cruise casual night—No swimwear or tank tops

•One pirate or tropical night (deck party)

•One "optional dress-up night"—jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women

    On 4-night cruises:

•First night is cruise casual—no swimwear or tank tops

•One pirate or tropical night (deck party)

•One optional dress-up night—jacket for men, and dress or pantsuit for women

•Final night is cruise casual—no swimwear or tank tops

    On 7-night cruises:

•First night is cruise casual—no swimwear or tank tops

•One themed night (pirate, tropical or other themed deck party)

•3 additional cruise casual nights—no swimwear or tank tops

•One formal and one semi-formal night—two great opportunities to dress-up and take advantage of the onboard photography services. Though optional, we recommend: Dress pants with a jacket or a suit for men, and dress or pantsuit for women

    Dress code at Palo:

•Men: Dress pants and dress shirt (a jacket is optional)

    •Women: Dress or pantsuit

•No jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops or tennis shoes

    Dress code at Remy:

•Men: Dress pants with jacket (sports or suit jacket) is required—ties are optional.

•Women: A dress, cocktail dress, pantsuit or skirt/blouse is required

•No jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops or tennis shoes

  15. I'm looking forward to my first Disney cruise in October.

One of our stops is Nassau and while, I've been to Nassau tons of times with the adults, but what does one do with a 5 year old (and bonus her birthday is the day we're in Nassau), while in Nassau? Are the Zoo and the Atlantis Aquarium worth a visit?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Atlantis aquarium seems very popular plus the straw market there. But an idea keep it light stay in the ship and enjoy the pools and Aquaduck.

  16. I read in a review that Disney allows you to bring your own alcohol on board and not just bottles of wine. Is this true and if so how do you do it?

Yes you can in your carry on bag only, do not put it in checked luggage / suitcases, it must fit in the terminal x ray security scanner, it cannot be open and it cannot be drunk in public places, those are the rules but a few abuse it.

  17. I have two DCL cruises booked both 12 nights both cost an arm and two legs my children are getting older they are no longer interested in Mickey and Co, DCL have year on year pushed up prices and I think there is a limit to what any one family will do, if you think you have seen all the shows before and done Palo and done Remy. So yes there is a Limit of no more, but we dipped into RCI and whilst the ship was nice the people in charge didn't have a clue.

  18. We're cruising the Fantasy on an Eastern Caribbean itinerary starting on Nov. 1 (extremely excited -- 108 days!!). My husband and I have cruised before, so has my mother (who's going us), but my children and in-laws have not and I'm anxious for this to be a vacation that they never forget.

My kids are young (nearly 7 and 2.5 at cruise time) and I'm nervous that some of the family beach excursions offered by Disney might be too long for us. I want to have flexibility to be at the beach for just 2 hours if we want, etc. So ... two questions:

    1. Has anyone gone on the Disney excursions? Are they more flexible from a timeline perspective than they seem?

    2. Has anyone found some great family beaches (or just great beaches, in general) on their own that we should consider via taxi instead? (We're stopping in St. Thomas and San Juan. I'm particularly interest in a beach in San Juan.)

Thanks, in advance! Every cruise I've been on I've leaned on cruise critic members for the best advice:)

In St Thomas try to go to Megan's busy by taxi it's cheap and a great beach. There is a small entrance fee but easy to get to, we went on a DCL tour Turtle cover and a Honeymoon beach the beach there was a secluded island beach Bentley shelving into the sea.

Do remember you get Castaway a Cay as well with the best Bahamas beach bar none.

Lots of a Fantasy photos in my link below.

  19. Wondering if anyone could assist or provide insight?

Traveling with my almost 4 year old daughter that absolutely loves the make-up and princess thing too a tee. Wondering if the Royal Sea Package is worth the intangibles of nearly $200 or should I just get the sessions on their own which is approx. 400

Secondly would you consider a 4 year old maybe too young for the Bibbidi Boutique

Lastly us the royal sea package something that I need to book at least at the 75 day mark to have a chance of getting into it?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Book it, it's a great age she will enjoy the pamper you will enjoy the photos, it's only on the Fantasy, yes expensive but the experience is fantastic wish it was there when my daughter was that age.

On formal night the. Sea days the slots will go you might be lucky but it's popular you can however book onboard.

Children grow up do quick she is at the perfect age IMHO a bit older then they fall out of the characters bit.

    Enjoy
