  1. Thank you, we will be in Rhodes city on Saturday so I'll walk down to the marina and hope that she is there.

We actually went to Lindos by boat today and you are right, it is absolutely amazing!!

  2. Hi there!

We're sailing the Fantasy in January - Eastern Caribbean Itinerary B. We haven't sailed Disney before, so we can only book 75 days out and I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row! I'd like to try to reserve my daughter a spot at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for Formal night and so I'm wondering if there is a way to know what night that will be.

    Thanks so much!!

It's Sunday first sea day. Fantasy is a great ship, that cruise to the Eastern Caribbean really great.

Suggestion, for St Marten look into a private tour with Bernard's tours search on the Internet it's fantastic.

  3. Hi all

I'm at Rhodes right now and know that Disney Magic is in the Med at the moment. We saw her last Thursday in Rhodes, but I would like to see her again, so does anyone know if she will be back in Rhodes before Sunday?

You may be lucky on Saturday, currently she is in a new cruise and in the sea off the Southern Mainland Greece now. The Magic needs to get to Athens a Kusadasi then Rhodes town.

  4. I'd like some information on the Dream balconies on the aft of the ship. Are the railing solid white or clear plexiglass?

Depends how far you are back in the aft what room do you have and what deck.

There is a mixture and the further back the more chance of the whitewall than plexiglass and to me it doesn't matter, unless you have young kids you can still view out.

  5. If you're coming from the West coast, late dining would roughly correspond to your internal hunger clock.

I tend to disagree on that.

First evidence I put forward is coming from the UK by that logic I would be eating to my internal body clock at Breakfast 2am, Lunch, 7am, and Dinner, 1pm, that's just from Port Canaveral, LA and Alaska up to eleven hours out.

Second evidence, you and your kids will get up with the sun in the cruise so eat Breakfast local time 7.30 > 10 am, Then hit the pools, lunch 12 noon to 2pm, local time, then " go back" to West Coast time for dinner, it doesn't make any sense

If at home, any home, any time zone, you eat at 8pm fine then do it, if you can cope from 2pm to 8pm.

    .

Kids adapt to time zone changes quickly, kids clubs run from 9am they will be hitting them and the pools from breakfast time, port times are local times and often your back on ship by 6 pm.

I have seen too many meltdowns and over tired children being carried out by Dads and Mums which can ruin a vacation.

Dine and play tries to make the best of a very bad situation kids will hit the snack places more at 5 pm and have burgers and pizza rather than a good dinner.

  6. This is true' date=' but there is also a back up system with the coupons--if a server who actually served you is given a wrong coupon, he/she is able to sign the coupon and present it to their manager who will then convert the money to the correct account.

Yes, we were given a coupon once which named a head server who wasn't even on the ship (they had swapped the day we boarded). I asked about it at GS and was told it was OK. I then asked the head server about it and he said no problem--his manager would take care of it.

From there, I inquired about the system.[/quote']

Yes everything I post is true!

Yes we were told that to " if" you hand it in yes they can " bank" it But if you forget to hand it over there is no back up.

I didn't like it and even with guest services saying it would be OK I asked for it to be re done and they did so not sure why they persisted in the first place rather than just change it.

  7. Take care to note your servers and hosts names and check the tip tickets to endure there correct, twice we have been given the wrong tickets for people who hadn't served us or were a server on a previous cruise on our table.

  8. The title of the thread is "What time is late dining on the Fantasy?"

I think early (main) is at 5:45 and late (second) is at 8:15.

LOVE the dine and Play feature!

We have several small children in our group and booked late because of it.

(Their mothers have cruised a lot as teens and young adults and learned the "order a sandwich from room service while you dress" trick a long time ago.)

Agree your answer is correct I was on the Fantasy we had 5.45 pm.

My own view any child below teenager must be on main dinner, seen too many meltdowns of young kids

  9. We recently did the 3 day on the Dream and are looking at the 7 day on the Fantasy next... I think I read somewhere there is a character breakfast on the 7 day - is that correct? If so how does it work, is it something they assign you a day & time, or just first come first serve?

Sorry no character breakfast on the fantasy there are character breakfasts on some seven night cruise on the Magic and Wonder, that are seven nights and over, but it's not all of them.

Alaska, yes, Med and Europe No.

If they had one on your ship you will be assigned one they have two sittings early and late depending on your evening meal time and they need to have two sea days or more to do them. Ie Key West arrival last 12 noon they can do them that morning.

    But none on the Fantasy

  10. I don't agree with this. While it is true that the newer ships were built to the most up to date standards' date=' the Magic duck tail functions as a stabilizer and a counterbalance to the new slide. Having been on the Magic and Fantasy recently, I can attest that there is not a significant difference.

Each person reacts differently to motion sickness issues. Some need to be in open air or see the horizon; others do better being horizontal (in bed) with eyes closed. The motion is least at water level and mid ship. The farther you deviate from these, the more the motion. I've never experienced any "vibration from the sea" on deck 2; not sure what this is referring to. The only place I've experienced engine noise/vibration is far aft; that can happen at all deck levels (we experienced it on deck 7).[/quote']

    Expert advice on motion sickness.

    http://traveltips.usatoday.com/prevent-motion-sickness-cruise-1777.html

Lower decks are enclosed, nearer the vibration of the waves and dinginess, and are bad for sea sickness.

Mid ship mid deck is best see the link on expert advice.

The ships flex in the water and not one deck can move more or less than another as there all attached to each other.

Forward and aft do move a bit more at either end but the middle like a child's seesaw moves less on any deck.

Fantasy and Dream as newer have the latest technology and latest stabilisers so move less but didn't purchase the Asipods that other lines now use that reduce movement further.

  11. All DCL ships are stabilised but the newer ones bring larger and having the latest technology are far better, a midship mid deck location us best. Do not go to lower decks they get vibration from the sea and engineers and feel enclosed, you need fresh sir, a view of the horizon so midship mid deck is best.

  12. This will be our first Disney cruise.

On other lines we usually LOVE the totally aft cabins with the view of the wake.

I read the the aft on the Fantasy (5E) have solid metal walls, which we've had before and don't bother us, but I've also read that there is absolutely no roof cover.

Are any of the afts on any of the decks at least partially covered?

Any other differences in the afts on different decks?

    Thanks!

Depends how aft you are on the ship, most are covered, you have to be on the hull on the end of the ship.

  13. Another question from a newbie.

We're taking our extended family on the Fantasy and one of my daughters (with a 2 year old) potentially has a cabin next to the elevator lobby on Deck 6. (Cabin 6666)

I know that on Princess and Celebrity the elevators are set back so there is never a noise problem with a cabin near that area.

Does anyone have any experience with a cabin near the elevators on the Fantasy?

I have been in the Fantasy and quite near elevators and no disruption from noise at all but we have had the odd Cruise magnet theft when on all of the ships near the elevators.

  14. I was very very disappointed with RCL, I found the ship very nice the concierge service good but the entertainment very poor and the cruise director something out of the sixties a nightmare.

Food was very hit or miss on RCL you might get one good meal but often it was very poor they can't do desserts.

I posted on cruise critic quickly this morning we actually had a Grsnd a suite there which compares to a Cst T (3) midship suite on DCL.

Entertainment, food, service is far better on DCL, RCI nickel and dimes you and treats you as a big wallet they want to pick pocket, you pay for soda packages orange. Juice apart from breakfast, upgrade steaks the coffee is rubbish.

Kids clubs are great on DCL it has rotational dinning, and a lot is included.

DCL doesn't have the wave runner, or a ice skating show or a casino, but DCL has great shops and a lot of enlightened meetings to enjoy.

The shows on DCL shouldn't be missed or a fireworks and pirates night.

I had a 14 night RCI cruise we had maybe four good shows in that cruise, none where the ships production and all guest entertainers.

Yes Portafino and the Steakhouse compared well to DCLs Palo but not Remy, and Windjammer Buffett was an equal to Cabanas on DCL and longer hours.

Things like the ice show were great, the pools nice as well.

But desserts no they can't do them, I recall the menu saying " Champaign Strawberry" all the tastes of Wimbledon, it was a small jelly and a strawberry something that you get from a cheap basic store range.

DCL has style, it's an Entertainment company doing cruising not a cruise company doing some entertainment.

To pick a cabin work out the time of year your going where you want to go, then your budget and the rest will fall into place.

  15. Too bad about the Magic. Guess it is going or has gone fleet wide. All the years I have been cruising I have not heard complaining about the singles splitting apart. I agree with you about having some twins available.

    Thanks

There hasn't been any complaints about singles splitting apart, that's just not true not seen that comment myself anywhere! agree with you it was just they wanted to put more luggage space under the double beds that was requested, !

  16. In the main dining rooms? A friend is considering joining us on a Disney Cruise (most likely on the Magic) but her daughter is allergic to dairy products so was wondering if she would be able to get soy milk in the main dining room during breakfast and/or dinner?

Yes there are all types of milk available, I have seen it in Cabanas but you can always (1)put in a medical request now and (2) see the head server on any meal including buffets there around and get whet you want.

They also do non diary desserts, but get a request in as some main dishes might have dairy in them.

  17. We will be traveling with three boys aged 5, 6, & 7 on the August 3, 2015 Alaskan cruise. I haven't been able to find any information on how seating times for dinner coincide with evening entertainment times.

Are there shows taking place earlier so that the people on the 2nd season can attend before dinner? Or is it best to have the early dinner seating and then go see a show?

We have been thinking that we would prefer to have the boys eat at the 2nd seating, but only if they are able to see a show prior to dinner.

Please help with any information and suggestions!

Alaska was fantastic you will love it we did it in August 2015 it was great.

  18. Would there be any advantage to having a cabin on the port side or the starboard side of the ship?

Only one is starboard generally gets the view of castaway cay the ship backs in so starboard verandah get an excellent view of the beach at Castaway.
