  1. Do you know if steamers are allowed on RCCL cruises? I've only found old posts regarding this topic. I know I can put clothes in bathroom with hot shower running or use Downy Wrinkle Release Spray to get rid of wrinkles. I don't want to get sent to the naughty room and be "shamed" for having a steamer. LOL!

Right- i would use the Downy Wrinkle RElease and hang the clothes in the bathroom with the hot shower. That works just as well and less to pack

  2. I've seen so many threads on here lately about planning an Alaska cruise with kids and ways to make the cruise experience more fun for kids. Last night I came up with the idea of creating a small kid's activity booklet and memory book that is dedicated to an Alaska cruise. It has a few different activities in it, a place to write cruise information, and things to try to enhance the overall Alaska cruise experience.

Here is the booklet (And Yes, It is FREE! - You Must Print Yourself) :

I hope this can help some of you with your planning for kids. Some kids may like it and others may not. It just depends. This is a free gift from me to you, please take it and enjoy it. Hopefully it will help!

Let me know what you think! I hope to improve it someday in the future.

Wow! This is just so wonderful. I am printing one for each of my grandsons to take with us on our land/cruise of Alaska. Thank you again for making something so fun!

  3. We are doing the 11-day HAL cruisetour which starts in Fairbanks. We take coach from Fairbanks to Denali Princess Chalet, arriving at 1:00 p.m. The HAL agent told us that we arrive too late to do the Tundra Wilderness Tour that day (which departs at 1:30 p.m.). We are in Denali less than 24 hours, so doing it the next day is also not an option. Are there any excursions to see the wildlife of Denali, other than ATVs, Helicopters, Airplanes? Any suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

The rangers in the park always have a talk and demonstration that is free with their sled dogs and the dogs demonstrate how they take the sled around. they also talk about the care and feeding of the dogs etc. I found it to be very interesting.

Afterward, you can always go to the little strip of shops across from the park. They are some typical tourist type shops but they have some cute things, there is a pizza place, a subway sandwich shop, ice cream shop

etc. that will kill a little time

  4. I love the Grandeur and have sailed on her many times. I am booked again for April 10, 2015. I think like any particular cruise you go on there could be problems like maybe the people who were onboard when there was a norovirus had negative comments or whatever. I have always had the best time on Grandeur and had great service and friendly crew. I would not be concerned in the least about the few reviews that you read. Go, have a great time and form your own opinions! It is so easy to go out of Baltimore! That's a real plus for me.

  5. well keep in mind that they are moving AWAY from the people, not toward. These are not aggressive- unless provoked. i think if you go poking at them it could be different story because they would try to protect themselves. I have seen Baracudas, small sand sharks and plenty of stingrays and you just dont step on top of them or try to grab them or anything. they are just as afraid of us as we are of them.

  6. I have been on two cruises on Grandeur with my then 4 and later 6 year old grandson. He loved Adventure Ocean. They have pirate day and dress all the kids up like pirates and parade them around the ship, they do arts and craft (decorating pillow cases etc), had a talent show with the kids all doing something that they were interested in, video games, movies, PJ night where the kids where their pjs, had pizza and watched a movie, etc. My grandson everyday when he got up would ask when he would go and i would have to remind him that i took him on the cruise to spend TIME WITH HIM! LOL i would manage to give him about an or hour and one-half in the am and a couple of hours after dinner (while i went to the casino) to play and that seemed fine with him.

  7. God bless you for setting it straight! We parents (or in my case, a grandparent) of small toddlers appreciate this immensely. The very tiny small blow up pool or actually blow up tub works great and doubles as a bath tub in the shower for these little tykes and slipped in between two chairs on the pool deck takes up almost no room (at least less room then another chair would take. The kids are paying customers too and deserve some fun and consideration! Thanks for your honesty!

  8. boy tell us how you really feel? im just curious about the baby inflatable pool if they are out of the way, why is it the parents should be shamed. then tarred, feathered and made to walk the plank? also i dont think anyone mentioned turds in a pool, all the other posters never used terminology close to that but you...

Exactly right- it is maybe 18 inches X 24 inches and does not take up anymore room then a very large tote bag sitting on the side. Some people need to get a grip!

  9. I thought this was a joke also.

Imagine if it happened, and seeing the photos of it when it has. My goodness, have people no shame, or consideration for others ?

    .

OMG, is it really appropriate to discuss floating turds in the pool ?

As for kids in diapers in a pool. Disgusting.

    Some people have No consideration.

    some people have No Decorum.

A lot of people won’t know what that means, and those who do, think it doesn’t apply to them.

    .

Shame on those parents who think diaper wearing children in the pool is allowed and normal.

Shame on those parents who bring inflatable pools on the deck for their prince or princess, at the complete inconsideration for others

Its a shame cruising has come to this level.

    .

    .

Seriously- it is barely as big as the baby and is maybe 18 inches X 24 inches and fits between two lounge chairs. Get a grip! I doubt it will take any room away from you. LOL

  10. We were all set to book our family cruise on Serenade, until we realized there is no Splash pool for kids.

We'll have a 1 year old at the time.

No way she'll be potty trained.

But definitely too old to just sit around.

My wife asked me, "What is she supposed to do all day on that ship? She's too little for Adventure Ocean, she can't use the kids pool, There are no Dreamworks characters. I just don't want her having to sit with us and watch her sister and older cousins play."

Parents of little ones not potty trained, what did you do with your little one all day?

We've taken our older daughter on cruises at that age but it was on Oasis & Allure.

also they do have like a fisherprice playtime -i forget whey they call it and yes a parent has to go too but they have a dedicated trained staff that does this playtime with the toddler with the parent present. Lasts about an hour and they have toys that they will loan you to take with you for the baby to play with. In the evening you can arrange for in-cabin babysitting at night and I can't remember but i think it is around $8 per hour so that you can go to a club or the casino or a show or whatever. They are very good with the kids and very dependable.

  11. I think the newer/bigger ships have more options for small kids, but in my experience on Voyager class ships...you're just gonna have to adapt your vacation like you do your regular life :( You're not going to be able to enjoy the same ammenities and freedoms as you did before you had kids or that you have with older children. I believe you can pay a babysitter on board, but 10 years ago the option required the babysitter to be in your stateroom, plus an additional fee. Kids in swim diapers are not allowed in ANY pools, even the kids pools (at least 10 years ago this was the case). I had to separate myself from the rest of our group and spent a lot of time in our stateroom during nap times watching tv and reading by myself, and had to go back to the ship instead of exploring islands because there's only so much small kids can take without naps and quiet time. I brought an umbrella stroller and was able to shop and stroll around the ports while everyone else was off having fun, but there was nothing on the ship offered for small kids at the time. I paid $1800 for her to go with us (including airfare) and there was absolutely nothing for her to do. It soured me on cruises for the next 10 years. I've since then been able to go with her as an older child and have a blast, but would never ever go with a kid under 3 again! The sacrifices of motherhood are no fair :)
