  1. We were on the Caribbean last January and again last fall, after the dry dock. Internet was better the second trip as that was one thing they were updating. Each room should now be equipped with a router. The only place we didn't have service was on our balcony.

I too have apps that never work while onboard. And as others have stated, it's good for getting emails, facebooking, and small things like that. I also found that if you reply to your emails, Facebook posts, etc while online and then get back on to send, it saves minutes.

Download books and such before leaving port.

  2. We were Elite on our last cruise. I looked forward to having laundry done. But as we were on a ship and voyage with a plethora of elites, turn around we were told, would be about 4 days!

And now to find out before our upcoming cruise that the elite marking has been removed from our luggage tags? A perk I was not even aware of? How will I ever make it???

We usually take carry ons with us to our room and get those unpacked before muster. For some reason, our cases never seem to arrive until after. As long as they arrive dry, I'm happy!

    Let's go cruising!

  3. The rooms you have a choice of getting are free of any doorways EXCEPT you will be very close to the elevators. I've never had issues with noise from that area.

The trip we had, also was just below the pools. We thought for sure there were piano races going on above us each night when they stacked the deck chairs and pushed them to the sides!

The app I got is called Ship Mate. If you download the deck maps for your ship before your cruise begins - be sure to check and see each deck, then you can use those maps when still keeping your phone on airplane mode. It came in handy many times when traveling on a new ship! Much better than the map you are handed when you receive your cruise card!

    May your cruise be restful!

  4. As it has been said above, both rooms are comparable in what they will look like and the noise going on around it. The only difference I see too is just price. We too are aft people.

I have an app on my personal devices that shows deck plans for all ships. (Free app too!) As we started our cruising, we too didn't know how to choose a room and would have someone else choose for us. But then, we were on a ship and located just across the hall from a service entrance - where suitcases would be brought in and out, service carts stored, and an emergency door to close off the hallway if there were an emergency. I'm a light sleeper and the constant noise from carts, the threshold being bumped by them and people walking over them, the workers chatting, smoking and bumping things in the back kept me from getting any sleep. So, now I check where the entrances are to things, emergency doors. The app works well for this.

Hope you have a great cruise!

  5. Thank you for the information. We have been in port twice, our third time coming up soon.

The first time in port, we had a private tour with some folks from the ship we met on CC. He took us around the island with lots of stops. I think everyones favorite was going to his favorite watering hole for some green drink locally made that the residents love.

Last year, we walked the walking self guided tour. We stopped by the floating markets, the big flea market, and settling at a MC Donalds for the air, bottled water, and wifi. After we had a bit of lunch back onboard we went by taxi to the aquarium. It was a great outdoor, open air place, lots to see.

This year, we are still shopping to see what we will be doing. Stay tuned!

  6. This sounds like just what we are looking for as well. ColoradoGurl, when are you going to be there and on what ship?

We are traveling with two other seasoned middle aged snorkelers as well, just like us. I think I will be sending an email too.

  7. We were on the Caribbean Princess in January, before dry dock, and again in late September, after dry dock. We stay on the same deck in the same area of the ship when we travel. I found the internet better after dry dock, if you stayed in your room. If you went out on the balcony, I did not have any. This last time, I had quick entry on and off and never got bumped off nor was I still 'logged on' after logging off.

The minutes do go fast, so write your replies to people before getting online.

I used my minutes just to get emails, never to down load a book or movie. Do all that before sailing!

  8. Thank you so much for this fantastic news!

We first purchased our stock from within our 401K, just moving funds around. When my husband retired a few years ago, we decided to take the 401K and have a financial planner invest so we could make more money to cruise.

When we met with him, we told him that he could have access to all the funds and make us money - EXCEPT- he had to repurchase the 100 shares we had to sell to obtain the 401K money.

So the stock was purchased back, just days after we sold it, and our planner is just so excited with how well the stock has performed since the purchase (about 4 years ago.) So are we. And it's been used for at least ten cruises since!

  9. Most of us who are here on CC, are seasoned travelers. We are on the CB this fall for the TA cruise. When we received word about the changes, we were fine with it as we have never been across the pond, so each port is new and we love sea days. So we paid the final payment and are getting excited about the cruise. We were also on the CB this past winter for our warm weather in the winter cruise we take every year. But, going forward, with all we now know about this particular ship, we would look at other itineries before booking on the CB until this gets fixed. Our down payment for our future cruise(s) is always done with future cruise credits. If I am not mistaken, that can be moved to another cruise if we were to switch from the CB to another ship. (Please correct me if I am wrong.)

So, I'm asking, since most of us know what's going on with this ship, we are mostly experienced travlers, why aren't we changing our cruises to others, especially those 9 months away? There's plenty of time to get your money put towards another cruise without loosing a cent If we all would stop booking this ship, they would get the message and get her fixed? If you haven't made final payment, why stay on her?

  10. We made it back to the ship in time for afternoon trivia. We finished in third place with 15 out of 20. The winners had 17. After a nice swim in the spa pool, we dressed for the evening and enjoyed a bite at the Skywalkers event.

Are you staying on for another couple cruises? I certainly don't want to play trivia against you! Congratulations on having heads full of useless information as do my husband and I. Your scores are nothing to scoff at. Great job!

  11. OP, aren't you on the Caribbean Princess ta with us? We've already been notified that the ship has propulsion issues and can't sail at top speed which is another reason not to try for a 9a.m. flight.

Yes, we have our flight (at a reasonable time) but trying to convince another traveler to do the same! 😏

  12. Suppose---

Im taking a trans Atlantic westbound. Ship is 'suppose' to dock at 6:00AM in Fort Lauderdale, a ten minute taxi to the airport.

I want to take SW home.

Would it be feasible to catch a 9:00AM direct flight home?

Is SW one of the lines that would do the 'magic suitcase thing' they do on Caribbean cruises? You know, where you put your case outside your room on the last night and they magically appear at your home destination?

What's the usual time from docking to letting passengers off on a trans Atlantic?

Thanks so much for your wisdom.

  13. I agree with all the above mentioned. Especially the OBC for vets. I too am not one but am so glad that they honor those who have served.

    My addition is:

Oatmeal cookies and peanut butter cookies.

Love to take a couple to our room every night to have before bedtime.

  14. What is an "ABC cruise"? If you don't mind my asking, what is the date of your cruise? We are on the Crown 12/22 sailing.

    Congratulations on your upgrade....enjoy!

    A- Aruba

    B- Conaire

    C- Curacao

  15. Someone mentioned the celebratory balloons that are put in the doorways of the cabins. Two balloons per cabin, stuck to the wall near the entrance. They also put up a sign. Maybe they can just put the sign up in your hallway?

  16. We have always used the same TA. Just reached the golden ticket of being elite. We always get OBC of some amount and sometimes if there is more from the company, are given that as well. We've had specialty dinning, free wine tastings, a bottle of wine, and strawberries sent to our room. Always a goodie or two to keep us coming back. . .
