  1. We are sailing on Sept 7th, on the Jewel. I planned a group of friends to go with us..so we are 16 strong....this will be my 13th cruise NCL and have another NCL already booked on the Dawn for April 2014. When we sailed on the Jade the Upgrade Fairy called us 4 days before we left with an offer to move from a balcony cabin to a Penthouse Cabin..we jumped at the chance. If she is reading this post, we would be more than happy to upgrade on the Jewel.. (heck a girl can hope can't she?)

  2. I understand how you feel.

We have 25 days until we sail the Breakaway, celebrating my 50th birthday. It will be my 17th NCL cruise, and we have never had an NCL upsell or upgrade offer. We got an upsell offer on our first (and only!) CCL cruise, but we are still waiting for our fav NCL to call. An upsell call for a special cruise on the beautiful Breakaway would be wonderful. Pease!?!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you...hope you have a wonderful cruise for your 50th birthday!

  3. We sailed on the NCL Jade out of Barcelona..we booked a mini-suite and two days before our cruise we got a phone call to upgrade to a penthouse suite..for just 200.00 more total...of course we jumped all over it! It was great, and I was spoiled! So again, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and hope the upgrade/upsell fairy calls us for our Alaska cruise on the Jewel!

  4. We sailed on the Celebrity Equinox in November 2012. I reserved a mini-bus for the two of us, plus 10 others from CruiseCritic rollcall. Nikos was very professional, giving me ideas of what would be available to see in Athens. I couldn't have been more pleased with our tour...Nikos sent me in detail on how to find our driver/guide the day we arrived...and sure enough, Nicholas was waiting there for us with a sign and away we went...(he said he appreicated us getting off the ship so quickly - so that we could be one of the first groups to the Acropolis.) When we got to the sight, he handed me a cellphone with his number programed so when our group was ready he would be right there to pick us up...we had more than enough time there..and he was right as we headed back to the mini-bus there were hundreds of passengers from the cruise ships making their way to the sight..so thankful Nicholas got us there before that mess!

Nicholas then took us to the Parliment House to watch the changing of the guards..and then showed us some other sights as we made our way to the Olympic Stadium (giving us plenty of time to take pictures) We then headed to the Temple of Zeus and up the mountain to get some breathtaking pictures of the city of Athens. Nicholas then took us to the Anicent Market where we were able to see the ruins and/or get something to eat..we ate a Maiandros (wonderful food, great drinks...very nice waitstaff). When we were finished there our tour ended at the National Archaeological Museum..had about an hour or so there, plenty of time to enjoy their treasures!

We had the best tour and tour guide, we couldn't have had a better day in Athens...our only regret was that it was over so quickly. It was so nice having Nicholas as our guide, he loves his city and made us love it too! I would highly recommend using Private Greece Tours.

  5. I can't get my Personal cruise consultant to call me back! We sail on Feb 17th on the NCL Dawn. When I booked directly with him, he told me we would get and on-board credit as well as some other perks. I printed off my edocs and of course there was nothing mention about the on-board credit..so before Christmas I started emailing and calling him to find out what is going on....I keep getting emails from him stating hes working on it..and will call me back...I'm to the point of cancelling this cruise as well as the group cruise that we booked with him for Sept with this lack of caring about us, once NCL got our money..and we got false information...has this ever happened to any of you...

(FYI...we booked with him last year and was promised a 50.00 on board credit and never recieved it...so you can see why I'm not too happy!)

  6. Good Luck, it can happen! It happened to us on the Star to Bermuda September 30th sailing. We were booked in an Aft Facing Balcony Cabin #10230. The Upsell Fairy called us on Thursday, we were leaving on Sunday and offered us an Aft Facing Penthouse Suite #9232 with a wrap around balcony. What an amazing experience! I sincerely hope you get the call.... :D

    Thanks...

  7. As you can see from signiture, I took may cruises on the Dolphin and SeaBreeze...I had such a great time on-board...and got me totally hooked on cruises...So sad to see her beached....(I'm going to go home and get out my pictures and remember her in a much better place!!!

  8. On our 1st cruise, the little Dolphin IV, which is no more, we had a complimentary bottles of red and white wine every night on every table! The captain of the Dolphin ate in the dining room everynight with passengers - we ate with him 4 times, then sat with him at the shows! On Dolphin and other old cruises:The waiter only had 4 tables so you could talk to him. You rated the waiter and busboy and if they got excellent ratings, they got time off - breakfast or lunch. The busboy served a choice of vegtables every night. They took roll at the lifeboat drill. The stewards checked cabins to make sure you weren't 'hiding'. If you were, you had another lifeboat drill the next moring. There was a midnight buffet every night. No TV in your room. Some ships had no or only one hot tub hidden away. When my husband won a contest as King of Rock 'n Roll, he got as prizes: Ship's big beach towel with ship's pin to hold it on as his robe, sun visor as crown, ship's umbrella for his reign, a ruler with outline of ship for his rule and bottle of champaign. I may have forgotten something - it was years ago. Now you might get a mug or key chain when you win. Those were the days. Miss them and the small ships where you got to know everyone and staff got to know you and what you wanted.

Bonnie, I remember the bottles of wine on the tables on the Dolphin IV..

I too got to eat with the captain and was entertained by him and his staff the rest of the night...(to the shows..in that little lounge witht the big silver colums) The disco was a hoot...spent way too much time in there...

I have pictures of throwing streamers on the Dolphin and SeaBreeze during the sailaway party....
