I just want to make sure you  know that if you use a gift card and later cancel your cruise, the money will be refunded to the gift card you used.  So don't throw away those "used" gift cards until well after the cruise is over and you know you will not be getting any refunds.  Learned that the hard way. 😉

They will issue you a new cruise card. I use this method so I get one gift card back that is a larger amount rather then 5-10 individual gift cards.

How long does it lock you out?  I tried on my iPad a few minutes ago (yesterday and today was on my laptop) and it would not let me check there either).  I wasn't even logged in.

I called them  when I was locked out . I don't remember how long it locked me out. Per the web page of gift certificates check balance.......

  3. That blanket statement it pays to get Platinum Insurance is wrong. It paid for you but others like myself it would be a waste a money. Many of us have different coverages from using credit cards or medical insurance that pays for care anywhere in the world. I carry medjet for evacuation anywhere in the world which is really where the big money is charged not the cruise fare. For the cruise fare I am self insured.

Yes. You get people who walk with a rollator who book these cabins. Then you get someone such as our oldest son who can't walk or stand at all and there are no cabins available that a wheelchair can even fit through the door.

Princess should not have to triage the degree of a person's handicap. It might be the person with a rollator needs it to get into the shower of a handicap cabin. I'm sorry your son has such challenges. Booking early seems to be the most reliable way to get an accessible cabin.

  5. The reality still remains that the OP took a gty in Category DF ,  gambled and isn't happy. When the cruise opened up after the build wasn't it available to OP to look at the cabins and book then letting the GTY go? I suspect the price of the GTY was too good to give up. GTY'S sometimes work out and sometimes not.

OP booked a DF GTY because it was all that was available. OP knew he might end up with a DF cabin Because that's what they Chose to book. Hoping something else opens up isn't a given.

I hope for the OP's sake something opens up and they can move to a different cabin.

There are lots of people behind the scenes that make your cruise. We pay the suggested and give cash to those that went above the expected.

That's your choice not mine. I believe the OP is entitled to know the options re tipping.

and will still be charged $18 a day for crew appreciation.

16 days is a long cruise.

It's not a  charge you need to pay. It is a suggestion they put daily on your account "for your convenience". You can adjust that ridiculous amount down or eliminate it and pay cash to those that actually serve you.

  8. I read that not all TA's are included in the process to bid for an upgrade. Is there a way to find out who is excluded. I booked with a big box company who gave me different answers. I can't name the TA but would like to know if anyone has some definite information about this caveat in the bidding process.

  9. Maybe look at this in a different way. You cannot get reserve class if you're not in a reserve class mini suite or full suite. Reserve class typically costs $50 PP PD.  For $25-$39 per dinner you can eat in a specialty restaurant for dinner every night and come out financially ahead. As for eating with your friends who have reserve class it won't happen and shouldn't happen to anyone who's not entitled to it.

I'm seriously considering that last minute 30 day Tahiti/Hawaii/SP crossing cruise on Majestic Princess, but the thought of 30 days in inside cabin scares me. I've only been on one cruise with X and had balcony, so a bit spoiled.  I'm traveling solo and basically a hermit who doesn't drink or really socialize, but would like to see some of the ports and the price seems really good.

Any thoughts on this cruise situation would be appreciated.

I would stay home before sailing in an inside cabin. Others may not agree of course but you asked for opinions. There's a reason inside cabins are the cheapest ones on the ship.

  11. Last month we sailed and parked. You pay on your way out. On your way in they don't know what to charge you.If you go over a 24 hour period you might have to pay for an extra day. As an example... if you enter at 8 am and check out 7 days later at 10am you would owe an extra day. Using a charge card is the fastest and easiest way out.

I was on the Diamond last Spring. Same minibar options. I am guessing you might be able to trade out for some Japanese beer?

I was hoping to try some Saki or something authentic to Japan.

Did you try any of the specialty restaurants?

I suppose lots of people could say the same thing about a standard balcony cabin compared to an inside cabin.

Not a comparison because the perk of a concierge isn't available to a balcony or  an inside cabin. People can tip or not, individual choices and luckily it's an option not mandatory.
