  1. Can you book shore excursions before final payment is made or do you have to wait until you've made full payment for cruise? Thanks ..

    Booking shore excursions...

thanks for the heads up.. We certainly don't wait until we're on board to pick excursions just wasn't sure whether they would accept the booking without final payment being made. Thanks for your help.. :)
  3. It's been awhile since sailing HAL. Are there still 2 formal nights on 7 night Alaska sailings? Would a gentleman be denied entry to dining room wearing dress pants and button down shirt? Thanks for update...
  4. Thank you for the quick responses. Mind set at ease :)

Just back from Bermuda on the Summit

On your Bermuda cruise did you notice any difference as to how guests dressed on elegant chic nights vs. other evenings in Dining Room?
  6. We had a wonderful time on our Viking Rhine Cruise this past summer. We were very impressed with the ship as well as service. Our church is hosting a Christmas Market cruise for Dec. 2016 and they are using GCT as their river cruise company. We are contemplating joining them. question: is GCT comparable to Viking? Will we be disappointed with their product or will we be awed by their superior product compared to Viking. The ship we'd be sailing with is the River Aria... (on Viking we sailed on one of their longships)... Thanks for any input... :)
  7. definitely a blessing in disguise... Bermuda is BEAUTIFUL! :) ENJOY :D
  8. thank you for posting those pictures. We will be in this cabin when we sail on the Summit in July 2016 :)
  9. Thank you for this great thread... because of it we were able to snag 3112 on the Summit for July 2016 :D
  10. just curious ... if you've sailed on either of these itineraries (Romantic sailing from Nuremberg, Waltz sailing from Passau) ... what was the deciding factor in your decision... Thanks .. :)
  11. we also used Viking custom air... no problems... we were given a choice of airlines/times and then asked to pick out our seats.. worked well :)
  12. I was looking up pre-cruise options for Viking Danube cruises Passau to Budapest and was surprised that even though the cruise begins in Passau with a flight to Munich, Munich was not offered as a choice for a 2 night pre-stay... they offer Prague... I'm wondering why not Munich, since you land there anyway...
  13. Thank you so much for your VERY informative review, with pictures. We are leaving this Saturday (July 18, 2015) for a 2 night pre-stay in Lucerne and then on July 21 we will board the Viking Hlin for our Rhine Getaway cruise from Basel to Amsterdam. Your in depth review definitely answered any questions/concerns we had. We hope to enjoy the cruise as much as you did.
  14. our friends are on this sailing... glad to hear they finally got going and are on their way to Bermuda.. :)
  15. Does Princess ever offer cruises to the Caribbean during the summer months? We sailed Princess twice during the summer out of NYC a while back and were impressed with her service/food. We can only sail during the summer and would love to sail to Caribbean islands on their fleet..

    Summer/Caribbean

Does HAL offer any cruises to Caribbean during the summer months? Sailed HAL once, enjoyed it ... but since we can only sail during the summer we were hoping tha HAL offers some cruises to that region..

    Caribbean in summer..

    oh well :(
  19. Hi all... thinking of an Alaska cruise and due to itinerary our choices are narrowed down to Westerdam and Amsterdam. The only HAL ship we've sailed on is the Oosterdam so we know what to expect on the Westerdam. Would we be disappointed in the Amsterdam. The size of the ship itself is not that important to us, just wondering if one is better maintained than the other or if the interior is just visually more appealing than the other thanks for your input..

    Westerdam vs. Amsterdam

The itinerary difference is one does Glacier Bay ... the other Tracy Arm.... the other ports of call are the same...

    Viking Attire

I've seen it on numerous occasions where the husband should be in charge of what the wife puts in the suitcase... unless looking either like a tramp or a clown is the look they're going for!

    Viking Attire

OMG... I was hoping these dreaded "proper dress code" threads were only limited to ocean cruises... but alas... they have found their way here as well...

    Viking Air Information

Please help me follow Viking's logic regarding phone conversation I had with them... We booked Rhine cruise with a 2 night pre-stay in Lucerne. I was told we would therefore fly into Zurich and return home from Amsterdam... fine... I called Viking to ask about Viking Air Plus (or whatever it's called). I had mentioned to them that my home airport is JFK in New York City and was wondering how Viking flew their guests from JFK to Zurich and Amsterdam to JFK. I am under the impression that since JFK is a pretty sizeable airport with many options it shouldn't be too difficult to fly there and back non-stop. I had asked the Viking representative if I could speak to someone in their Air department to see if they generally flew their JFK passengers non-stop from NY to Zurich as well as Amsterdam to NY non-stop. Her reply was that in order for me to speak to someone and find out that information I would have to pay $50 per person... are you kidding me?? I told her that I would gladly pay $50 per person plus any additional fees if I were told that I was being given a flight that included 3 stops and would take 24 hours, but how can I decide if I need Air Plus arrangements if I don't know what they're offering to begin with. Maybe I misunderstood, or I didn't have enough coffee... any insight from anyone??? Thanks
  24. On all of our "ocean" cruises you gave them your credit card information and you were given a "sail & sign" card which was not only your room key but they also swiped the card each time you purchased anything on board whether in the shops, bars, etc. Even the gratuities were added and the total at the end of the cruise was then charged to the credit card on file. Is this a similar policy on river cruises? (We'll be sailing Viking)
