  1. We just booked the ship's shore excursions for our January Constellation cruise. We are both in our mid 70's and do not want to have to make a run for the ship. My wife likes taking the ship's shore excursions, even though they are more expensive. She has a fear of being left behind if we get caught out past departure sail time. On three ship's excursions, we were delayed past sail time and the ship waited. One delay was a serious traffic accident, one was the tour lasted longer than expected and the bus to the ship left early, and the last one the bus driver missed the harbor ferry. We have just seen too many dock runners in the past to be one of them....these old knees (artificial) and bad back do not move as fast as they used to.

  2. I was wondering if anyone else has had a printing problem when trying to print your order history. I checked my printer with other docs (including emails) I have and it works fine. The order history just does not want to download to the printer from the Royal page.

If you read it, you might want to provide the source. Otherwise you are asking people to verify something that might just be a rumor offered up by someone trying to stir things up. You could even do some research and let people know what you find out.

I apologize. I was just trying to see if anyone heard anything. I wasn't trying to stir up anything. I was reading some of the CDC info that just didn't seem to make sense. Again, I apologize if I offended anyone.

  4. Question.....Everyone is talking about a CDC card for vaccination. When we got vaccinated in GA, all we got was a 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of paper signed by the nurse giving the shot. Two shots. Two pieces of paper. We put phots of them on our cell phones and had the originals laminated. There are no sections on the paper to show any additional shots. Is that enough to satisfy the cruise line requirements for vaccinations?

  5. After two close calls, we always fly in the day before the cruise. From experience:  Our flight to Baltimore was cancelled due FAA computer glitch. The second flight was cancelled. We got a third flight and arrive at the ship 45 minutes before sailing. The next instance was a flight to LA. The airline changed the flight departure time to 11/2 hours earlier than originally published (we had our boarding passes with the original departure time on them). We were travelling in our car and did not get the very late announcement from Delta. We got to the airport and the sky cap said we had to hurry. We got to the gate as they were about ready to close the door. No more same day travel after that!!!!

  6. We sailed on a cruise with 'cougars and pups'. My wife and I were in a whirlpool across from each other when a young 'pup' started making a play for her. I just sat back and watched her brush him aside. Funny thing, it took about two days for my shin to feel better from the wallop she gave me. I suppose I deserved it, but at the time it was a very funny moment.

  7. Being retired, one thing that really worries me is inflation. Money printing has become the big gorilla in the room. We have already seen it in the grocery store and at the gas pump (not just from the pipeline shutdown). Oil was at $66 USD today. Higher energy costs affect everything including our cruise costs. What are you planning to do to hedge against inflation?

  8. I would like to join all the artificial knee sufferers congregation. I'm 75 and have both replaced. One in 2007 and another in 2013. My 2007 left knee still gives me some pain and fits. The doctor said that when he did the surgery that my soft tissue damage was extensive. I've lost 30 pounds in the last year (only 527 more pounds to go...humor). I work out three times a week using weights, step-ups and treadmill....11 different exercises in all. I try to use moderate weights with two sets of 20 reps. Now if I can only get my back to cooperate! Too much football, USMC, white water rafting, GS ski racing, etc.

  9. It seems a lot people are all hyped up about what I did with the drugs, why didn't I talk to the staff about the prescribed drug and the doctor was Spanish. The only thing I can say is when you go the ship's clinic, you expect first class attention to the medical details (past and current conditions, medications, allergies, etc.)  provided by the patient. Tragic mistakes can happened when the doctor is not aware or ignores possible drug interactions. I expected a better result than I got on the Explorer of the Seas.

Hopefully, I have answered all your questions.

How did the doctor’s nationality impact you realizing you couldn’t take the drugs (while still in the medical center), and then not telling the doctor or any of the staff?

He was in a hurry and impolite....maybe too many patients...like the woman with the broken arm. He was not a good listener. He seemed he just wanted to get people out of his clinic. The wait to get into the clinic was over an hour. By the time we looked at the medication, he was off to another patient. I don't think making a scene in the clinic was a good idea. My experiences with US doctors has been that they are good listeners...it is their training. By the way, there were two doctors and two nurses on duty.

One of the ladies at our dinner table had a bad reaction to some sunscreen she bought. She went to the clinic and got the other doctor...a Brit she thought...who was as she put it, 'a nice man'.

WHEN DID HE KNOW THE DANGER?

When he was given the drugs?    If so why didn't he just tell the "Spanish" Doctor that there was a contraindication.?

Did he communicate with his doctor and then toss the drugs?

If I was allergic to a drug, and was given it by a "Spanish" Doctor I would question it at that time ?

If I was on a cruise and was given a drug by a "Spanish" Doctor would I confer with my regular physician at home first before taking it ?

I knew something was not right when my wife who was holding the drugs said 'wait a minute, somethings wrong'. That is when I saw what he had given me. The waiting room was packed with people at the time, including a woman who has just broken her arm. I was not going to make a scene with all those people there. There was no need to confer with my cardiologist as she had cautioned me many times at home about a serious drug reaction with this drug.

I read it.. Just wondering why he tossed the drugs instead of taking them.

When did he dump the drugs ??

Before or after he spoke with his doctor?

Did he speak with his doctor while still on the ship ?

Maybe he emailed his doctor for a second opinion ?

The drugs were taken home with me and disposed at home. I did not want anyone else on the ship to get a hold of them.

The cardiologist told me every time I went in for a checkup not to take this drug as it could have a serious reaction with the drugs I was taking.

    See above.

    See above.

     Uh.....??

(I think she said the quiet part out loud)

I had a prescription given to me from a Spanish doctor. I looked at it and it would have put my life in danger if taken. I dumped the drugs. I gave the doctor all my medical history and the drugs I was taking. He evidently did not know about the interaction of his prescription with the drugs I was taking. My own doctor said to never ever take the drug he prescribed. Uh....???...is right!
