  1. Valentines Day two years was our 25th. Our TA had a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us. This was on RC. The three cruises that we have taken have been on Valentines Day with either Celebrity or RC. It is always noted. We have never received anything special from them except on this last cruise. We were invited to a gathering that had other people celebrating their anniversaries or honeymoon. It was a lot of fun. A couple had been married for 60 years. They did have a heart shaped cake. Each couple had their picture taken behind the cake and then it was served. I don't know if this is common for Celebrity to do. Maybe it has something to do with the cruise director since she was there.

Our next cruise will be the same 14 day cruise on Eclipse that we just had this Feb. Valentines Day (our 28th) will be on the last night of the cruise. I am now interested to see what happens next year.

OP, congrats on your 50th. I know things didn't turn out the way you wanted them to. 50 years is a huge milestone. Not many folks make it that far. You and your wife have found a wonderful partner in each other. Wishing you many more happy years.

  2. .......On one of our RCCL cruises, the staff, including the cruise director made the CC tours and anyone else trying to get off the ship wait until EVERY ship's excursion had left. This would have ruined a number of the tours. Our fearless Aussie leader held up the Australian flag on an umbrella and we marched off after him looking the other way as they tried to stop us.....

How did they know who was on their tours and who wasn't? Where did they stop the people? Did they have a list of names that they checked when people were trying to get off? On the cruises (Celebrity and RC) that I have been on I have never seen this. Either it didn't happen or I wasn't aware of it. On my cruises they would get the ship tour people to gather off of the ship and then march them off to their bus. Also, the ship tours were scheduled at different times since there were several in a day. All the passengers were coming and going as they pleased. Didn't someone complain? I would have been super ticked and they would not have heard the end of it from me. That is just plain wrong. I would also never, ever sail on that cruise line again.

  3. When you're escaping from a sinking ship, the extra minute it can take to remove a cover (one that's there for vanity reasons only) can be deadly.

Well said. I never understand why people put looks before safety. I never want them in my way while trying to escape. They would probably still be putting on makeup.

  4. I would rather see a colored boat that is ready immediately if needed. Sometimes I really don't even notice them so much since they are just part of the ship. If they put a cover on them it would most likely take precious minutes to get them off. Same goes for some piece of plexi. Also, it would just be another maintenance issue and $$$$.

I know this isn't a safety thing, but what do you do if you don't like the color of the carpet somewhere you are staying? Have them cover it up? This applies to many things. Just realize they might save your butt sometime and move on.

No I don't have any suggestions that you are looking for.

  5. Hlitner,

Can a TA make any changes to the contract after a deposit has been put down, but final payment has not been made yet? I am referring to changes not requested by the customer.

I know that the cruise lines can charge extra if the price of oil goes up, etc but what about an agency?

    Thanks

  6. Celebrity lists available liquors on their website along with prices if you wish to pre-order. Expect to pay on the order of $80 - $100 per bottle.

I would also like to know if it is necessary to purchase in advance or if you can simply order during your cruise?

Wow that much for a bottle? No wonder Rum Runners are so popular.

Celebrity also has a Classic and Premium drink package that you can buy or get it when booking the reservation as long as it is available. The drink package does not get you bottles for your room. You can also bring 2 bottles of wine or champagne on board in your carry on luggage. It would be nice if we could bring a 375ml bottle, but then again anything I would want to bring on board probably doesn't come in that size.

Not sure if you already knew this, but I thought I would post it.

  8. Looks like I got lucky on the room change. My TA was able to get us in a concierge class extended veranda for a super rate. We are now in a hump room on deck 10 C2 concierge class. :D

    Thanks again for the help.

  9. Royal Cruise recommended Catfish Dewey's for all you can eat crab legs . . . I have to 2nd and 3rd that choice lol . . . it's not a fancy place at all, but man if you just want to do some good crab eating and enjoy some really good hush puppies . . . this is your spot. I believe they do this on Thursday's and Sundays . . . but you can also call ahead as there are times they do this everyday. $29.99 . . . can't be beat. They also have some awesome lightly fried/grilled catfish. They probably serve steak, but you don't want to get steak at a place like this. All about the fish and crabs here.

It is not close to the hotel, so you need to drive there (or cab). 15 minutes away in normal traffic. If more adventurous you could get an all day bus pass and make a day out of it.

I agree Catfish Dewey's seafood is really good.

  10. My husband usually spends several hours a day there. We are on the Eclipse next Feb to the caribbean. Out of the 14 days there are 8 island stops and 5 cruising days. We just did this trip this past Feb. and really like the itinerary. We won't be getting off the ship at all ports.

I am new to the point system. I read that it is an extra point for booking the concierge class. I don't know if that is a point a day or per trip. That might also make a difference. I am now off to learn more about the point system.

  11. Pink is one of my favorite colors. My hubby won't even wear a pink shirt. : ((( I really like his mess dress whites (I think a lot of other women did also), especially since it's something besides black or dark blue. I would love to see a picture of you in the pink tux.

  12. The so called special prices offered by Celebrity on Tuesdays. It is more of a teaser to get you interested in a cruise. Most times it iends ups being a bait and switch, because the price category or cruise date doesn't suit your needs but it gets you looking and thinking.

It's not a bait and switch. I can't imagine why you would think so. Just because the schedule doesn't work for you it obviously works for others.

I don't see any difference in Celebrity advertising specials than other stores doing the same thing.

  13. Set it aside in your local bank or have a piggy bank and put money in there every month. Some people have a jar they label as vacation money.

Are there any advantages in buying OBC as opposed to just saving it?

  14. She comes on strong, and we did not like her when we first encountered her on the Sillie last May. However, after hearing her story (which she didn't give until the end of the cruise) and hearing her sing, we really admired her and learned to enjoyed her. :) Awesome voice! Would like to have her as a CD once again. ;)

    What is Sillie?

  15. We booked an extended veranda room on level 6 on the Eclipse in a 1A category. I am now able to change it to a concierge class veranda room with a regular balcony on deck 11 or 12 in category C3. I would actually save about $370.00 to change to the concierge room.

I can't decide if the extra amenities and points are worth losing the extended veranda. I have never had an extended veranda and also have not been in the concierge class.

Any thoughts? This is a 14 day cruise.

  16. Another cruiser had the right idea!

"10) Ask Sue Denning to step up to retrain and oversee All Executive Management. Bayley may know how to run a company but Sue Denning knows how to manage the good times that bring passengers back."

We have two cruises coming up this year and we just finished one in New Zealand. We try to avoid the MDR because of all of the cutbacks. So sad!

Completely agree. Sue is the best.
