  1. We are looking to book a tour from Sydney to Tasmania (sydney, melbourne, great oyster bay (scenic cruise), port arthur, hobart, and back to sydney) on majestic princess but it seems that most of the balconies on the port side are already taken. From the map it seems there will be more to see if i book a room on the port side but the only ones available are either very expensive (or under the buffet restaurant) so I want to know from people who have done this route before whether it is worth to pay the premium or it does not matter as most of the time it is too far away from the shore to see anything?

Any comments will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. It seems the only rooms available for picking at the port side (right side) at a resonable rate in majestic princess are at deck 15 under the world refresh (buffet area) (M601-M611)

So will that be noisy at night or in early morning? So this is not the pool area that everyone is warning about, so is it worth it?

Also we are departing from sydney to melbourne to tasmina and back. Seems the majority of the route there will be more to see on the port side, or does it not matter?

  3. We are tempted to jump into Majestic Princess cruising from Sydney on 27/11 to Brisbane, Cairns (Airlie Beach, Yorkey Knobs, Port Dogulas and Willie Island).. We want to know if it is worthwhile to go there at that time of the year if it rains a lot as I believe most of the "excursions" will be outdoor based. In fact i think most of them are water related activities like snorkeling or scuba diving...

Or if it rains, does it only rain for an hour or two or will it rain for the whole day?

The other option is to go to Melbourne and Tasmania later in the month (around mid-Dec) but the period is shorter with half of the trip on sea days.

Any suggestions welcome? Cruised before in the Mediterranean but never cruised before down under.

  4. Hi,

We will be embarking in Monte Carlo and we know we can start the check-in process at noon time and the boat then leaves at 2300. We want to leave the ship to tour around the city once we are done with the check-in and have some lunch. So my question is, when is the muster drill usually held? Is it near time of sailing or just before dinner? If it is held at around 4pm then there is not much time to go out and be back then. (which is a shame as that will mean i will miss this city)

and the fact I have booked the specialty restaurant at 1830 on the first day doesn't really help but that's the only slot i can find...

    Thanks!

  5. Can someone help to clarify these 2 items?

Q1. They say on the website the cruise fare includes FREE UNLIMITED BEVERAGES INCLUDING FINE WINES AND PREMIUM SPIRITS

and today I accidentally looked at the benefits of Master Suites (which unfortunately I am not in) that states: 10% Discount on Premium Wine and Liquor

So my question is, is there some category of wine that is not free on board? How do I know which and how do I prevent myself from asking for some of the non-inclusive beverages without knowing?

Q2. So my cruise offers complimentary laundry (No I am not a GOLD+ member) but it does not define what complimentary mean, is it only limited for certain number of bags or it is unlimited? Again, will appreciate if they could be more transparent.

    Thanks!

  6. Thanks travelcat2!

So the only thing special is the caviar and champagne in breakfast? (I was thinking for something more than that!)

Anyway, I have heard you could have the champagne in other meals but is the caviar the only time it will appear throughout the cruise? (don't recall whether i have tried it before, so i wonder if it is as tasty as ppl suggest)

    Thanks again

  7. Hello, I am new to Regent 7 sevens here... I have heard they offer nice/sth special on the breakfast or brunch on Sundays. But unfortunately the only Sunday of our 7 day cruise is not a sea day (we will be at St Tropez) and we currently have plans for the 830 tour to GRIMAUD & PORT GRIMAUD.

So does that mean we will miss the brunch, which I have heard it is really nice, or do you think it is worth to skip the excursion for the brunch? I am not sure how special it is compared to a regular lunch or breakfast so I am not sure whether it is worth it to stay behind.

Can anyone who has been to the brunch share their views on this?

Oh btw, our cruise is a 7 night cruise so there is no sea day

    Thanks!

  8. There seems to be some confusion on another thread as to which tickets are valid where and the system of inspection so, as the fine ( to say nothing of the embarrassment:o) for having the wrong ticket could really spoil your day (40€ per person), I will try to clarify.

Warnemünde/Rostock only - Local single tickets each way valid for whole journey on both train and tram.

Warnemünde/Rostock and Bad Doberan - VVW 3-Zone Day ticket (per person 8€, Group up to 5 persons 24€) valid on bus, tram, s-bahn plus RB between Bad Doberan and Rostock.

Warnemünde/Rostock to Schwerin, Wismar, Stralsund etc. - Mecklenburg Lander Day ticket (23€ for 1 person plus 4€ for each additional person, max 5) valid on all s-bahn, RE and RB (red trains) throughout Mecklenburg, not valid on buses or trams. You will also need single local tickets if the journey begins before 9am or for the tram between the main station and the city centre if you want to spend time in Rostock City.

On the RE and RB trains the ticket will be checked by the inspector who is part of the train crew. The Lander ticket does not need to be validated but it must be signed if it was bought on the day or you must produce the nominated form of ID if you bought it on-line..

On the local bus, tram and s-bahn, where there is only a driver, the 'trust' system operates. Tickets are randomly checked by roving inspectors working in two's and three's, dressed like ordinary members of the public, who hop on and off anywhere and you are only aware of their presence when they hold up their ID and say 'Fahrschine, bitte'. The driver then does not release the doors until they have inspected every ticket.

Sneaky:rolleyes:! And they are tough too, I speak from bitter experience as they fined me 40€ for simply failing to validate my ticket.

So traveller beware - have the right ticket and validate local area tickets in the little yellow box either on the train platform or inside the bus/tram at the start of the day. You need only do this once.

Hope this is clear. you can find more info, in English, on

    http://www.verkehrsverbund-warnow.de/tickets-fares/tickets.html

or on the tickets page of my web site.

    Happy cruising :)

    Hi Anni,

I am arriving at Warnemunde on monday 22nd Aug.

My plan is to go to Schwerin (as the castle will be closed, so I will just spend some time walking around the gardens or the town centre) and then go to bad doberan for the molli (yes I know it is a bit rushed) then take the train back to Rostock then to Warnemunde.

The questions i want to ask are,

    a) it seems the lander ticket will fit the bill if i use it after 900am, but is it for unlimited use for a day (as you can see i am stopping by Bad Doberan on my return), so it will be 3 trips

    b) For the regional RE or RB trains do we need to reserve in advance? (ie is it allocated seatng?) or will it be full? (as everyone will be boarding the 907 train.

    c) Will the lander tickets be sold out or do i need to get them in advance? I don't think I will have internet access during my cruise, so are they easy to get in the train stations at warnemunde or rostock?

    d) you said lander tickets do not have to be validated for regional trains but you said on s-bahn the tickets must be validated (or you get fined), so for lander tickets, do we need to validate for s-bahn trains?

    e) I will have 2 ppl travelling using the lander tickets and you say the costs is extra 4 eur for the 2nd person, so is that 1 ticket (for 2 ppl) or 2 separate tickets? Just want a bit of clarity just in case i get stuck with the ticket vending machine (Those in Europe are a lot more sophisicated than ours here in Asia) I hope it is easy to buy from these ticket vending machines.

    Thanks!

  9. I notice in these 3 capitals they all have an open-air museum. (Oslo's Folkemuseum, Stockholm's Skansen and Helsinki's Seurasaari Island.)

I wonder if anyone has been to them all and can comment if they are all very similar and should I spend time in any of them, or just need to go to any one of them or must go to see them all?

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

  10. Thanks both, especially Anni on the very detailed analysis. Yes it does seem pretty rushed, especially when most of trains are hourly so if we miss one connection we will be sitting at the platform for the hour.

Anyway, someone pointed out that Schwerin is closed on mondays and so it seems probably not worth to go all the way just to see the outside (or unless there is nothing much to see inside, then that will be different!) so I probably either do Berlin or just go for the steam train

  11. Hi,

My ship will be docking at Warnemunde 0700 and leaving at 2100..

Wonder if it is possible to visit Schwerin castle and then on the way back stop at Bad Doberan for a steam train ride?

Thinking of doing this on my own as I think the train system should be reliable in Germany but would like to hear any comments from fellow members who have been there before...

    1) How long will I need to stay in Schwerin castle? I am thinking of giving it 3 hrs (say arriving in Schwerin at 9 and leaving at 12?

    2) Anyone know the schedule of the molli steam train in Bad Doberan, and how long it will take (I'd suppose have to come back with the train too)

So I wonder if it is something doable in a day or I am pushing my luck?

    Thanks

  12. The new cruise terminal with name "Themistoklis" is ready for using by cruise ships.

This terminal is 500 meters far away form current terminal at gate E12 (old is at gate E11).

Now, if your ship docking in this terminal you don't need take the bus for go to old terminal.

    Map: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=%CE%91%CE%BA%CF%84%CE%AE+%CE%9C%CE%B9%CE%B1%CE%BF%CF%8D%CE%BB%CE%B7&daddr=%CE%91%CE%BA%CF%84%CE%AE+%CE%9C%CE%B9%CE%B1%CE%BF%CF%8D%CE%BB%CE%B7&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=37.938985,23.636484&spn=0.024674,0.038581&sll=37.938985,23.636484&sspn=0.024674,0.038581&geocode=FZDgQgIdTaRoAQ%3BFcHlQgId_JBoAQ&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=15&t=m&z=15

A: old terminal "Miaoulis" - B: new terminal "Themistoklis"

The new terminal has taxi area, parking for buses (not local) and cars and many shops.

You must know your gate when return with a taxi for example or if you have make a reservation for a tour: gate E11 for old terminal - gate E12 for new terminal! (tours companies know which gate will be your ship).

At the end of this year (2013) will be open and another terminal (Agios Nikolaos) next to "Themistoklis" gate.

Does it mean the cruise boat will always stop at that area? (ie on the south bank rather than on the north?) I am arriving with Celebrity and would like to start planning my DIY in Athens (have been in Athens a couple of times but never done via a cruise boat before)

Seems like I need a bus to get the Metro station. Originally I was thinking whether it was within walking distance to Metro.

    Thanks!
