  1. Interesting how posts respondIng to mine passed over the entitlement to which I was referring & chose to focus on the one $20 example. Perhaps I was not precise enough as this was an add on to the post.

My appreciation & gratitude had nothing to do with tipping money or a "bribe;" just a general attitude of appreciation throughout the cruise, even when disappointments might occur.

  2. Traveling with a sense of entitlement in any venue often creates the very response one wishes to avoid & causes friction for ALL.

In my experience on dining issues with all cruise lines, if I need a different time, et al, I see the mature d & keep asking. My dress & attitude makes a difference. I have also presented a discreet $20, one was accepted & usually do not do it. My gratitude & appreciation always wins the day.

  3. I write a message (in code) on a napkin, then pretend that I've accidentally dropped it on the floor. When the waiter picks it up for me, they read the message (in code) and give me a knowing look.

The message will instruct them to met me in trap 2 at 23:15, where I pay them in bitcoin so it's untraceable.

You guys have too much time on your hands😁

  4. Just thought I'd post a quick update now that I am finished packing. I not only managed to keep it all within the carry-on luggage limit, but I also was able to add one more formal shawl, two extra pairs of shoes (total of 6 pairs inside), a masquerade mask, and an additional sweater. My small "personal item" bag still is 20% empty, just in case I find something along the way I cannot live without. Moreover, when I zipped the main case together, I discovered an unused large pocket ready to fill with whatever toiletries I collect from the ship and other goodies. I thought that zipper was the one to pull when converting the bag into something that must be checked; so I had steered clear of it. ;)

In other words, it is possible to travel lightly on a formal ship with numerous changes of clothing and plenty of shoes. So worry not about the stipulations of a crossing on a Cunard liner. Go with the flow and enjoy all the grandeur that still exists out on the open seas.

What brand of carryon luggage are you using? Can you actually get it in the overhead?

  5. Thanks tv24 for your excellent information. I read all your reviews as your descriptions seem to hit the points for which I am interested! Dazzler under consideration as I was being practical. Looking forward to see what I think of QM2 in Sept.

  6. Mistakes can happen. Booked flight after Mom died the night before flight. Went online for Boarding Pass next morn, DH had one, I did not. Got to airport 30 min late as taxi did not arrive in rain. United would NOT let us on as I did not have a ticket. Agent the night before made a mistake & accidentally cancelled my ticket. Could not buy a new one & get on that flight as it was not in the "window" that United had / 20 min by then. Flight not full either. Supervisor called & could care less about going to a funeral. Too tired to pitch a fit & it was obvious the supervisor would not budge!

So.... if you cannot get Boarding Pass for any reason, get on the phone ASAP.

FYI only time this has ever happened😎 United sent me a voucher after I got home & wrote them a letter. I do not fly them. Period!

  7. Being a detail person, I always book my own air, follow up a couple of times before date of travel, have my boarding pass, eticket in hand, & seat assignment so that there are no surprises 😎 I notice some are using tickets on their phones here in US. Not me. Paper trail always works.

The ordeal of not having a flight properly ticketed before or after cruise is too stressful & ruins trip. Sorry that Cunard dropped the ball!

  8. As others have written, you can be lucky or unlucky with the speakers. There will probably also be someone speaking on something related to entertainment, movies, stage, etc.

off topic tv24........did you stay at Dazzler in Brooklyn and what did you think? Thanks.

To all of those who replied to my thread, wish you were going with.... my kind of people! Any more responses welcome. .. wrote down the pizza places, even though I am more of a sweet tooth; a good pizza will not go to waste!

    Thanks.

  10. Hi tv24,

Your post was so helpful! I am leaning in the direction of NuHotel but was not clear what was around the neighborhood.

On a side note, reviewing your cruise history, I see you have traveled well and in good digs! 😎

    Thanks again.

  11. QM2 leaving from Red Hook. Have 2 great hotels, Nu Hotel near central Brooklyn & Franklin Guesthouse in Greenpoint near East River Ferry. Not interested in using subways or going to Manhattan. Trying to decide which area better for 2 days to R&R after long flight from West Coast.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  12. I was on the same crossing as Richard. My experience on Dec. 22 was saved by the stroke of genius of paying for a porter to load our luggage on his cart. We got in an express line and it was the best $20 spent. The regular line for customs/immigration at around 10:00 was enormous, hundreds of people. Even with the shorter line, it still took about 30 minutes because the immigration computers kept going down. Mark, I would prepare accordingly.

We use a porter every time now when Customs is involved. Worth the 20.
