  1. My TA forwarded an email to me today from RCCL regarding the RoyalUp program. I may be interested, so I decided to check out what is happening with that sailing.

Weirdly, that particular sailing has vanished from not only RCCL's site, but also every other cruise booking site I looked at including Expedia and Travelocity. Two cruises before the 17th are available, as is the one after.

Do any of you wise CC Members have any idea what may be happening?

    Thanks!

Susan, I'll be honest. I think that there was some sort of glitch that allowed us to book the packages separately. We were not trying to game the system, but it worked in our case. I have no idea why. In fact I was a little hesitant about posting about it here because I don't want to stir up trouble. I wish the cruise lines would allow exceptions for documented disability, but I can also see how people might try to abuse this if they make exceptions. We emailed access@carnival.com .  You could try it but I'm not sure it will work for you. I just went into my planner and it allowed me to book the packages separately.  I booked our cruise directly through carnival, not with a TA.

Best of luck and I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

I've talked to my TA and she is going to check with Carnival. If it doesn't work, that's OK, but at least I tried.

Thank you very much for the information.

  3. Can everyone just chill? I asked because I sincerely wanted the information. I do NOT want to appear condescending or privileged, but do want to be helpful.

If they can't get off the ship to get things they specifically want, cash doesn't help. You can't use money to brush your teeth or as tampons (for example).

I will ask when I get on the ship. I won't have much of a chance to buy anything as two of our ports are Bimini and Half Moon Cay.

And yes, I do know that phone cards are so 2000's. I was just using that as an example.

I was just on the Mardi Gras 2 weeks ago and yes they do need the basic essentials. Some of the crew have not been able to get off in port and that their supplies are running late. Ask your servers and bartenders if they need anything too not just the room stewards.

Anything specifically? I was planning on hitting WalMart, the Dollar Store, etc before we got on the ship.

  5. I was reading on another board (MSC) that the crew rarely get a chance to get off the ship to get necessities. In the past, it was helpful to give them phone cards or extra cash. They are saying now that bringing things like toothpaste and shampoo are more helpful.

Anyone have any recent experience with this?

    Thanks!

  6. My daughter and I are on the Magic leaving November 14. She is 23, but has some significant intellectual disabilities. She doesn't drink alcohol at all, or coffee, or soda (doesn't like any of them!). She'll be perfectly happy with the lemonade and iced tea.

I would love to take advantage of the Cheers program. If I sign up ahead of time, they will automatically charge me for both of us. Does anyone have any experience buying it for just one person in the cabin once on board?

    Thanks for your help!

Personally  I love the coves with exception that I avoid them during these COVID hazardous times .

So I get as close to Lido as possible just to avoid having to use the elevators. Where people tend to pack into no matter with or without mask or how many are already in the thing . As for a few floors difference . Not a lot of difference worth $200 between the two balconies

Curious - why not a cove cabin during COVID?

  8. I just bought one a couple of days ago, and within a few hours had it credited to my onboard account. It only took that long because I was doing other things! Please note that you can only prepay up to $500 for your onboard account. Also, if you don't spend all of it, you won't get any money back.

  9. Thanks everyone for your responses.

What restaurants do I like? My favorites are locally owned with the chef/owner in the house. Olive Garden is definitely NOT Italian food! One of my favorite things about cruising is the opportunity to try new food!

My concern about our cabin being changed comes from snagging one with an extended balcony! And while I know many of you don't spend much time in your cabin, I enjoy the quiet of my own space, and reading out on the balcony. I run a convenience store, so have to interact with a lot of people everyday. One of my favorite things about cruising is that you can be social. Or not. (especially the not)

I love new experiences - that's one of the reasons I love to cruise. This will be my 16th. I really am "it's vacation! Don't sweat the small stuff and almost everything is small stuff" kind of person. However, it will probably be at least 2 years after this before I can cruise again, so I want to be very sure of my choices.

Again, thanks for all your help.

  10. My friend and I are booked on the Divina next April. We booked it because it sails out of Port Canaveral and their private island.

For reference, I've sailed on Carnival, Princess, Disney and Royal Caribbean (my favorite). My friend has done Carnival and RCL.

After reading these boards, I have a couple of concerns. 1) Seemingly random reassignment of cabins. 2) quality of the food. I understand the MSC experience is different than the other US mainstream lines, and I'm looking forward to it. However, if the food isn't very good, I can stick with Carnival! And I love the cabin we've got and wouldn't be happy with that changing.

So........how concerned should I be about these issues? Should I stick with MSC or look for another cruise?

    Thanks!

  11. We are on the 11/13 sailing of the Magic, and have already purchased the Clamshell Sunshade Rental. We also want to swim with the Stingrays, but the website won't let me as it considers this a timing conflict.

I really need the clamshell rental as I am really blonde and from Maine - 15 minutes in the sun and I'll match the red on the ship! But we'd love to do some other things as well.

Any idea how to get around this?

    Thanks for the help!
