  1. To Schplinky and sdbart

Hey! Sorry that I've been so distant from the boards. I've been fighting off a cold since Friday and putting in extra hours at work for several weeks now. I keep up with the reading, but not much time to do research or ask questions. The Nov trip is my big trip this year and it cannot get hear soon enough for me. It will be fun to finally meet in Rome or on the ship. Iain and i are planning for 5-6 days in Rome pre-cruise. I look forward to hearing about the Tahiti trip someday.

  2. Good plan. We did lunch in the MDR and it was better than dinner, which gets quite loud. Our great secret for Sosltice class is lunch in Bistro on Five the boarding day. A great meal with plenty of space, while everyone else lugs their carry-ons around the buffet.

Iain and I met several guys (one single, one couple) from Vancouver on our RCCL trip in November 2012. We became friends and chose to book with them for this trip on Celebrity. They will arrive at the board later this year when they are ready to start planning their trip. We all will have Select Time dining. The other guys are not in Aqua class, but we will dine with them occassionally when we are not dining in Blu or a specialty restaurant. I expect we will choose to dine with them in the MDR a couple of times as well.

I will definitely keep your suggestion handy regarding the "Bistro on Five" option. We always drop everything with the porters so we don't have to carry much as we eat lunch, explore the ship, and wait for rooms to open up.

Out of curiousity, how many cruises have you two done? Are they mostly on Celebrity? Do you have a favorite cruise line or type of ship? This upcoming cruise will be the 4th that Iain and I have done on Celebrity. I tend to prefer Celebrity over the other cruise lines we have been on, but our experience in a Haven suite on the NCL Pearl was quite wonderful as well.

  3. You'll like it. It's also a great place for breakfast, since there's less hub-bub than the main dining room. Very quiet and clubby.

Since this is my first time on a Solstice class ship, I will be dining in every venue. With all the time at sea, there will be plenty of time for repeat visits to the places I like the most!

  4. There are new specialty restaurant packages on Reflection. If you book 5, you save 30%.

Yes, this is true and what a great value! We already have 2 complimentary passes from our booking, but will probably visit all of them and return to some an extra time.

I've never dined in Blu before so really looking forward to this treat.

  5. Hi, guys.

My partner Ted and I are on this cruise. It will be our second TA, we went the first time on the Solstice, November 28th, 2011, and loved it.

We had a whole group of 20+ gay guys in the Martini Bar, every night.

We had a blast and can't wait to do it again.

We will be in Aqua, and would love to find some people to dine with, in Blu, our favorite restaurant on the sea.

We plan on spending 1 or 2 nights in Rome, prior to the cruise.

    See you guys on board.

Hello and welcome to the roll call. My partner Iain and I are also in Aqua class as well. We have sailed Celebrity many times but this is our first Solstice class ship. This will really be a treat for us. Looking forward to meeting you all.... Either at Blu or Martini Bar, or both. lol

  6. Hello all...

I just posted on the general forum board to introduce myself, but figured I go look and see if an LGBT thread had been started. My name is Walter and my partner Iain will be travelling on this ship. We just finished our first TA on RCCL in Nov 2012 and liked it so much that we wanted to do another. :D

Not so much activity going on here, but I am sure that will change as we get closer to the date. Looking forward to reading the posts here and on the other forum board.

  7. Hi, this is my first cruise and I was looking on the Celebrity website at the dress code and noted that t-shirts are not allowed in the main restaurant at any time. How strict do they enforce this rule? Obviously a t-shirt wouldn't be worn when having dinner, but for breakfast and lunch times either on sail days or having breakfast just before going to shore, it seems a little extreme to me?

Congratulations! I hope you really have a great time on your first cruise. They are always the most thrilling times. I have sailed on two Celebrity cruises in the past. I just returned from an 11-day sail in the Eastern/Southern Caribbean. For Breakfast I can say I wore Khaki / Cargo style shorts and polo shirts and had no issue in the Main Dining Room. I was always off ship during lunch in the MDR so I cannot comment on the dress code. For night time dining, I would say a "t-shirt" would be inapropriate. Your daily sheets will tell you what the level of formality is each night. Our 11-day cruise had two "formal" nights and the rest were listed as "Smart Casual". For men, a button down shirt and slacks would be more than appropriate... for women, blouses and dress pants could work, but many women dressed up way more than I thought they would on the "Smart Casual" nights. If you are wearing a traditional t-shirt, you would look out of place and probably feel out of place. If you really don't want to dress up, the Ocean Grill offers plenty of food options and the only requirement is to not be in swimwear.

I hope this helps you some.... enjoy!

A jacket for BREAKFAST - Really????????? Have to admit –that I’ve never sailed Celebrity ( I have a cruise booked for January 2012) but in almost 60 mass market cruises, I’ve never seen a jacket needed at breakfast or lunch in the MDR.

Can other Celebrity cruisers comment on the dress expectation for breakfast and lunch.

    Thanks, M

Sounds like you are coming up on your first Celebrity cruise... congratulations! I enjoy Celebrity cruises due to the fact that they tend to be a bit more upscale in their expectations for persons on ship. There is no need to dress up for breakfast, but common sense should dictate. If in doubt, you can always read more threads here or even call Celebrity and talk to a staff to answer your specific questions.

    Good luck!

cruisestitch, I'm going to respectfully disagree with you. There are different types of t-shirts. There are the type that one would wear very casually with shorts, perhaps with a logo or some sort of design on the front. I agree that they would not be appropriate at dinner in the MDR.

There are also tshirts which are technically tshirts but are really just plain cotton colored shirts designed to be worn with a blazer or jacket. There are also embellished tshirts which can look dressy when worn with the right top. They're appropriate to wear to work, and appropriate to wear in the MDR provided the entire outfit is sufficiently dressy.

For the guys, my husband has several silk-blend tshirts that he routinely wears on the casual nights of cruises. He wears them with dress slacks or khakis, decent shoes, a belt, etc. He does not look sloppy or underdressed. I've been on at least 50 ships from luxury lines to mass-market lines, and neither he nor I are breaking the dress code or look out of place.

Again, with this persons view point... common sense dictates. If the people around you are more dressed up looking than you are, you will look out of place and feel out of place. Save the plain looking cotton t-shirts for the pool or going off-ship. If the t-shirt can be worn in such a way that it looks dressed up, then maybe it will work. Just my thoughts.
