  1. Here is a recent thread discussing third passenger in a balcony cabin. Crown is sister to Ruby.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2399668

Oh thank you so much for this link!!! I don't know sister ships, etc, for Princess so I was afraid to go by any other ship names.

This link was great, to see the picture of how it's set up.

Now I have 10 months for my husband to decide if he'd rather be interior and we sleep in the same bed, or a big beautiful balcony and sleep separate... (with a 14 year old daughter in the bunk, truly it's not like it will matter - LOL!

  2. Thank you all for your help!!!!

Some will accommodate a rollaway and some will have an extra berth.

For safety reasons if the upper berth is used then the lower beds cannot be put together, or at least they are not supposed to be.

That explains a lot. I'm not able to visualize where the upper would be that the bottoms would have to be separate, but at least I know it's not a website glitch when it doesn't give me the option for the twins to be together as a queen/king.

  3. Hi!

    First time Princess cruiser here.

When I check for balcony6 cabins on the Ruby Princess for 3 passengers, when I click details, it does not let me choose bed configurations - it only lets me choose "twin" (not queen/king). and it states that there will be a rollaway brought in permanently for pax#3.

    My question(s) is/are:

    a) Are all 3 pax balcony cabins this way? I'm guessing it means they have to move around the two beds to accomodate #3.

    b) Are there other 3 pax balcony cabins that can have the twins together and have an upper bunk? (and I just haven't stumbled upon it/them yet?)

Thanks so anyone who can help!

  4. Thank you all for your responses!!!

We had thought to do the 100 minute plan, but with the stress that gave her about not being enough, we opted for the unlimited plan.

She has an online class (It's called "blended", as the classroom is a computer lab guided by the teacher) that she will have to do at least 4 separate assignments in. Two other classes do require periodic online assignments.

We have done a week with her before missing school, but she was younger. She "did what she could", and we basically sequestered ourselves at home the weekend we got back. Unfortunately this year it would be way too much.

The majority of her teachers would allow a few extra days to get things turned in, but she doesn't want to do that. (She's an 8th grade perfectionist honor student taking 3 high school classes).

This cruise was not an optimum plan, but I actually won it, and this was the best week of the choices I had. (Yup, those 9th callers on the radio are legitimate!!).

And this will most likely be the last year we can fathom taking her out of school for a week, so "here we go!"

At least with the unlimited plan, it won't be an added stress of using up minutes when things take time to load.

(we've chalked the expense up to collateral damage of having a studious child. That, and hey, if we can do the drink package, she can have the internet package - LOL!)

  5. I'm also going to piggy back on this:

Does Norwegian have the little placard you can hang on your door at night for delivery in the morning?

Or do you need to call and order it in the morning?

(I'm talking strictly the complimentary "light" room service).

    Thank you!

  6. That's what I was afraid of.

I'm currently figuring out which online programs she can do on an ipad, in ports. (don't want to lug her laptop around unless we have to...) Yes, very poor planning on our part to take a cruise during school. But this is the first year she's had a lot of online stuff.

  7. Can anyone tell me if the internet/wifi on the Escape is a decent speed?

My daughter will need internet for schoolwork, but I'd like to know ahead of time if it will be more frustrating than useful, if it's really slow?

Is there a computer center, that might be faster by going on their computers rather than her laptop?

    Thank you for any information!

  8. Both my DW and I worked for a Ross Perot organization for a number years. At one point they revised the dress code to allow tassels on your dress shoes. I pay no attention to what someone wears. Dress codes are subject change.

    .

I have to tell you that I just laughed so hard at that!

When I describe why DH is more "particular" than I am, I actually reference when "they finally allowed tassels". I remember it personally :) (when I first met him I was working part time while finishing college, and I laughed after my review at work that I had been late 82 times, and he was truly verklempt. He just.could.not.believe that I was laughing at that. Then I continued that I still got my 50 cent raise, because that's the kind of place I worked. I think he even excused himself from the phone call, probably wondering what the heck he was getting himself into with me.)

And his mother worked for the same organization, and I believe it was right when we met that she was allowed to wear pants.

DH worked for that organization for 15 years!

  9. We aren't looking to do a planned-out excursion, necessarily, when we get to Tortola.

Can anyone tell me if we can find some sort of tour as we get off the ship?

We've done that in Nassau, St. Thomas, and San Juan.

I "imagine" we can, but if someone with experience can help a gal out, I'd appreciate it!!!

    Thanks!

  10. If you look at the OPs posts, you'll notice a pattern of worrying and being unhappy. Not sure why she even bothers cruising if she is that worried about EVERYTHING. Also seems to be the Queen of Indecision. One day she says she is going on DCL, next day she's changing to RCL, and then changing to NCL, but worrying about all of them.

Way too much drama going on there! Best thing to do is let this thread wither away.

    I noticed that too...

  11. It's not really free, already calculated and rolled into the base fares for cruising. At least, no added 18% for corporate welfare a/k/a indirect costs as gratuities.

I didn't mean free, I was just contradicting "texting being an addiction".

To me, being able to conveniently reach my family is a "benefit" :)

    and it's convenient :)

  12. I completely have to agree....I am reading and laughing!!! My boyfriend thinks I am nuts...he cannot understand how a review on CC can be so funny....this should be a book and I would be first in line to buy one!!! Truly a great review!! I was truly on the edge of my seat hoping that Jerome would get his manhattan on the third try....

Have you read any of his other reviews?

    I would gladly pre-order a book called

JW and Jerome's Adventures on the High Seas!!!!!

  13. If your plan works for you, fine. I understand you need texting to control your family,

I have cruised with family and we never had any communication problems requiring the constant use of cell phones.

After all, you are on the same ship. Specifically, what are you worried about your children doing that constant contact is necessary?

I wouldn't say constant contact is necessary, but even on the same ship, it's a mighty big ship. If planning to meet for dinner at 6:00 but get stuck doing something at 5:50, it's nice to know we can reach each other, etc.

Or walk back to the cabin for something and decide to stay and clean up or nap or something, it's nice to know we can reach each other.

I've been known to go all the way back up to the pool from the bottom deck just to tell my family I'm not coming back to the pool.

Not an addiction, just a convenient benefit.

  14. Yes, you can but it costs a hefty fee per text. With iConcierge app you can call and send chat messages to other iConcierge apps onboard after paying an one-time activation fee for each device.

Do you mean that registered/activated devices can make voice calls to each other besides the messaging?

I just want to be sure :)

  15. No, there is absolutely no need to book the main dining room, unless you are a large group.

You are correct that you won't have the same waiter every night.

I don't know from experience, but from what I've read on here, having a reservation may save you a bit of time if it's very busy, but generally not by much at all. I would keep your options open.

Thank you so much! That's the exact answer I was hoping for :)

  16. Hi all, I've only been on NCL a handful of times, and only short weekend cruises.

Going on the Escape in September, and have a question about dining.

We're cool with main dining room eating, (we are going to do the hibachi one night, but that will be our only "paid dining"), but when I was online to book the hibachi, it looks like you can "reserve" the main/complimentary dining rooms.

Do we need to do this?

Am I right that we will not have the same table/waiter each night, like on Carnival or RCCL?

Does booking a time mean we have a real reservation, and then won't have to wait in a line?

Any dining guidance someone can give would be great appreciated!

  17. Nice hearing from you again. We go way back to the old Bahamas Celebration days, years and years ago.

I'm hoping to get back on her for a little Thanksgiving jaunt :)

So glad to be reading this review!!!!

I won a cruise on the Escape and we are finally going the beginning of September, so I am so so so enjoying your story!!!

(for the record, I love the way you write - truly feel like I'm right there watching the JW show happen right in front of me!!!)

  18. Wow, when did you talk to the police or the homicide detective?

I would guess while his/her kids were being questioned.

I didn't think it was unrealistic to expect they might do the same for 2 children who happened upon the unfortunate scene and who have had to endure questioning on the matter by both the police and Carnival security.
  19. Because of the "no bottles" restrictions, they now sell 12-packs for only $2.99 delivered right to your room. Easier than bringing your own!!

I'm sorry - I realized you did say "the water for purchase"... I read it to fast thinking you meant the purified water onboard. Sorry!

  20. Totally agree and I said so in one of the chat rooms... This needs to be removed.. How horrible... why would anyone post it .. :(

    .

    I agree.

The video even states (not sure why the heck I even watched it) that "45 minutes later it was blocked off", and he's got video of that too. I'm sorry - during something like that, unless you can truly help (doctor, etc), he should have definitely left the area.

  21. I've never had onboard credit when I didn't use it to cover the bar tab.
This upcoming cruise, I've got the Cheers program paid for already.

I've used my card in slot machines, and added cash to my casino account, and then charged to my onboard account, credit card.
Can I use onboard credit this way? Or are there any restrictions to using the credit?

I am guessing yes, but I'd like a definite answer before I board :)
