  1. My wife & I will sail Seabourn for the first time in June on the Sojourn. We have sailed Silversea three times, Crystal twice, Regent once and Paul Gaugin once. We are very excited to finally sail with Seabourn and I am hoping you all can answer a few random questions....

    1. Does the Sojourn still have a DVD player in veranda suites or is it on demand movies on the TV?

    2. What time does breakfast end? We use the gym every day before breakfast, so usually miss it, but it is my favorite meal of the day. The late-risers breakfast on Crystal is great for us!

    3. From my viewing of pics online, there are not many 2 tops in restaurants and the tables seem really close together. Is that the case, or are the pics misleading?

    4. Not a big deal, but curious if anyone can ID the Prosecco included?

That's all for now, but I'm sure I'll have more questions at the trip gets closer.

    ,

  2. My wife and I were on the Viking Star in January , we traveled from Barcelona to Rome. I prepaid my SSBP in advance and it was 139.00 each, 278.00 total. I found the package a great deal for this trip. My wife is not a spirits drinker but on vacation she enjoyed a wide variety of specialty cocktail, from Premium Margarita's to Lemon Drop Martini's . I enjoyed Mojito's on the boat every day, the drinks are not made very strong and with the SSBP you can ask for premium liquor and not worry about any charges

In the Torshavn Bar they had a variety of rums, I was drinking Diplomatico which was included in the package.

As far as wines and we only drank red while the couple we traveled with drank white there was quite a few to choose from on the wine menu. I know I had Primativo's and wines from Sicily with dinner every night. I probably drank 3 glasses with dinner each night

There were also 6 Grappas, 3 Limocellos, and 5 Italian liquor's offered with dessert at Manfredi's

As far as beer, 14 different ones were available with the SSBP too.

All drinks 15.00 or less are included , so for me 3 drinks a day and I was ahead of the game

Did either of you drink the prosecco? If so, how was it since it is the only sparkling wine option under the plan?

  3. I make it a point not to take a "shot" at any cruise line although I certainly don't find all cruise lines to be equal for us.

I recognize that and appreciate your positivity and kindness on these forums. I guess I got a little defensive due to my love of my prior SS cruises.

I am not a SS regular, but I really felt like the butler was giving us special attention and I know of no reason why other than they are just that good....maybe we just lucked out on all 3 cruises. I have heard they are stretched thin and could believe it, but it never seemed to affect our service.

  4. I think that the butler concept was an attempt by Silversea to differentiate themselves.

I agree, and I think it does differentiate SS in a successful way.

On a personal basis I do like having a butler when we cruise but not one in name but one that actually attends to those added details that we enjoy.

That's exactly what our butlers did for us on all 3 of our SS cruises (Cloud, Spirit & Spirit). Sounds like you are taking a shot at SS or did not have a good butler on your SS cruises. On my prior 2 Crystal, one Regent, one Paul Gauguin and one Windstar cruises, it was no where near as easy to request drinks for our suite, or make other special requests. On our room service deliveries on those cruises it always felt like the person delivering the food was in such a rush to get out and was rarely friendly. Room service on our SS cruises was always enjoyable because of the butler.

  5. My wife & I have sailed SS (3 times), Crystal (2 times), Regent, Paul Gauguin and Windstar. We are considering our first SB cruise in June. Can some of you kind people answer a few questions for us...

    1. Can we have champagne/sparkling wine as part of our in room bar preference, similar to SS? I was surprised how difficult it was on Regent, while it was gladly provided on SS, Crystal and Windstar (with the bev package).

    2. Does the gym have free weights/dumbbells?

    3. How late does the breakfast room service menu go? We rarely make breakfast in the restaurants because we sleep late, then go to the gym every morning. We love the "late risers" breakfast on Crystal.

    4. What are the wi-fi plans? Is as least one hour per day included like SS?

    5. Is there good late night, easy listening live music each night?

    Thanks for the help?

  6. My wife & I have sailed Silversea, Crystal, Regent, Paul Gauguin and Windstar. We are considering our first Oceania cruise this summer on the Regatta. Can some of you kind people answer these questions...

    1. If we are in a Concierge Verandah and purchase the Prestige Select bev package, what are our in room options for champagne/sparkling wine? Is there any in the room fridge included, do we order glasses from room service, or do we just have to bring glasses from a bar? We love sitting on our verandah sipping something sparkling.

    2. How is gym onboard? I can't find any good pics?

    3. How are the night bands/singing duos? Is there somewhere to listen to live music that is "open air" (ie: maybe not outside directly, but big open doors type of setting, like Compass Rose on Wind Surf).

    4. How late does the breakfast room service menu go to. We rarely make the restaurant for breakfast because we sleep late, then go to the gym every morning.

Thanks so much for the help.

  7. On our recent cruise on Viking Sky, we often ordered wine from room service, it was promptly delivered, and included in our Silver Spirits beverage package

Glad to hear it. Now I can relax and look forward to Jan '19. Ok, I would have looked forward to it either way, but now even more. Love sitting on my verandah sipping something sparkling.

What type cabin/room were you in?

  8. I already avoid the Wind Surf, because for me it's too big. I certainly wouldn't consider anything larger.

Different strokes for different folks. I have sailed SS, Crystal, Regent and Paul Gauguin. I was worried the WS Surf would be too small. Our cabin was small, but great. The ship was small, but I loved all of the outdoor areas...especially Compass Rose at night. I would not want smaller and we have ruled out the yachts, but the Surf more than exceeded our expectations and I hope to sail her again.

  9. I can't seem to find a specific answer to this...

If we are in a DV and have purchased the beverage package, can we order multiple glasses of champagne through room service and it be included in the package, since there is none provided in the room even with the beverage package.

If yes, do we also have to order food as part of the room service order, or can it just be the champagne? If just champagne, would it arrive in 10 minutes or so (hopefully quicker than food), or still take 30 minutes or so?

  10. The pool grill offered grilled ahi tuna, I don't think I remember any salmon. There was a salad bar, with fresh veggies, and fruit as well.

That sounds great. Ahi tuna is great option and fresh veggies are always good. Thanks for the reply.

  11. I read the recent answer from Viking on our roll call and it states that if you have Silver package, your mini bar is re-stocked with spirits of your choice regardless of cabin category.

I hope this is true, but don't expect it to be from everything else I read. So many people when talking about cruises say "we don't spend much time in our room anyway" or something to that affect. My wife & I do, especially enjoying the veranda. It bothers me when so many lines say "all inclusive" or "we don't say no" or "whatever you want anytime anywhere", yet I can't get a bottle of prosecco in our room as part of the package be purchased????

  12. I did not see the question answered about multiple drinks delivered to room. We did not have the package, but I would assume you can only get one drink at a time - hope somebody can answer.

I will be disappointed if that is the case but I expect it to be for room service. At the bars, it better not be. If I was not on the package, I could order several and take them to my room, so I better still be able to do that.

  13. Virtually every afternoon we had a bottle on our veranda and just about everywhere else.

That is what we are used to, having sailed SS, Crystal, Regent, Paul Gauguin and Windstar (with the beverage package). I love sitting on the verandah drinking champagne and it sounds like I will have to bring a few from a bar or call room service every time I want to do this on Viking since we will be in a DV. Not the best arrangement for a premium cruise, but things could definitely be worse.

  14. Peregrina651, thanks for the great pics. That's very helpful. We go to the gym everyday, so that's extra clothes packed. We're going to want more drawers, but we'll get by somehow.

molemaui, $16 for a glass of champagne seems silly on a cruise as I assume it is not that expensive of a brand; can't tell since it appears to be branded for them. I'll be fine with sticking with Prosecco.

We rarely seem to make normal breakfast and lunch hours since we vacation on "vacation time", so we order room service often before dinner. Can we order multiple glasses of Prosecco with one order (say, 4 or 5) to last for both of us, or will Viking say only one a time per order?

  15. My wife & I are considering a 15 day cruise on the Orion. We will most likely book a DV and I have a few questions I hope someone can answer...

    1. From the pics I see, I don't see any drawers for clothes, etc in the stateroom. Are they in the closet? Does anyone have any pics of the closet open?

    2. As I understand it, if we purchase the Silver Spirits bev package, no alcohol is included in the stateroom, but we can order it through room service. If we order a meal from room service and ask for 4 or 5 glasses of

champagne with it, will they deliver that ,or will they tell us it has to be one at a time?

    3. Does the pool grill offer a salmon wrap or any other healthy options with substance (ie: no salads)?

    4. Does the gym have free weights? It does not look like it in the pics.

    5. Does room service breakfast last longer than breakfast hours in the restaurant?

I will probably have other questions as it gets closer. Thanks for the help.

  16. Yes you would have to call room service! It does seem a bit silly doesn’t it.

It is silly. The plan worked great on Windstar.

If my wife & I ordered a meal through room service and requested 6 glasses of champagne as part of the order, would they do that or would they limit it to one at a time.

We were interested in a PV, but could not justify the cost since a PV does not have a walk-in closet or a separate bath tub. It's much more for a little extra space, mini-bar and a few other, to us, minor privileges.

  17. My wife and I have sailed Silversea (3 times), Crystal (twice), Regent, Paul Gauguin and most recently Windstar. We are considering a Viking ocean cruise in Jan 2019. We love the ease of all inclusive. My question is...

If we have a deluxe veranda on the Orion and purchase Spirit Beverage Package, what are the options for in suite alcohol? Would the fridge or mini bar in a DV include small bottles of sparkling wine? I don't want beer; I want champagne/sparkling wine and sometimes a rum or whiskey & diet. Would I have to call room service to get, which seems silly to me, or is it stocked in the room to any extent?

  18. We love The Butler’s and no way would it be the same without them, especially like that they sort all the shore excursions bookings, maps etc, always get us on the first bus, they are well connected !!

We find their attention to our Suite and Wardrobe excellent, and we sure miss them, when we get home.

They are an integral part of S S and that is why we enjoy it so much

    Well stated.

Julie: you nailed it! Just back from our first Silversea cruise and we struggled to understand the difference between the Butler and the stewardess. We often found our shoes wrapped in tissue paper when we hadn’t asked for shoe shining (mine were patent leather). A friend on the same trip said their butler followed them to the elevator and punched the button for them. He seemed very “needy” to them and they finally placated him by ordering different pillows every few days. I’d just appreciate a solid suite attendant who consistently replenishes the towels, toiletries and mini bar items.

I feel for you for not understanding the difference. After 3 SS, 2 Crystal, 1 Regent, 1 Paul Gauguin and 1 Windstar cruise(s), it is hard for me to understand how you could not. My wife loved when our butler walked with us to the elevator and pushed the button. Didn't happen all of the time, but loved it when it did.

  19. On our recent Windstar cruise, the in-room mini bar included small bottles of sparking line in the fridge and they were included in the beverage package, and we could for and did ask for extras (getting rid of the beer and Coke).

Is it this way on Viking ocean cruises?
