The Caribbean is wonderful aboard Seabourn (OK, but then again, where isn't???) Many smaller islands that you would never get to see on the larger ships. Also, as it is Caribbean season now, there are tons of threads on some of the highlights. I also posted several reviews on my blog http://floridakeysgirl.com/?s=sojourn&submit.x=-470&submit.y=-240&submit=Search along with some videos.

I'll be on the Crown Princess next week (long story ) and will share my experience after the fact. But I will not be in a suite ...
For Alaska you may also want to see if Oceania has any itineraries that work for you.

Chef Jes was The Colonnade chef last year on the Quest. I am pleased to hear that he has been promoted. He is FANTASTIC!!!
Glad you had a great trip.
-
Glad you all enjoyed! The food really was quite good. Not too many concerns about closing the patio due to chilly temps!
I know a bunch of you are on Nov 27... say hi to my parents (Paula & Alan, from Miami) :)
...and have a glass (or three) of champagne for me!

The final installment of the blog is up: The Food... http://floridakeysgirl.com/2013/11/seabourn-sojourn-food/
Now that we are fully back to normal, I have to plan another cruise.
-
It looks like Seabourn has done away with round trip itineraries from Florida and other US ports. A real shame for those passengers that can't or have trouble flying... :(:(
I spoke to some people about this while aboard our recent Sojourn cruise... It seems Seabourn is looking for more "interesting" itineraries and does not feel that they can offer a unique product out of FLL...
That is what I was told, anyway. Still it is disappointing.

I spoke to a couple on our cruise at length about their comparison between Oceania and Seabourn. They preferred Oceania BY A MILE, and had their reasons. That being said, they also had a very good time on our cruise, and are now comfortable that they know the difference between the two brands.

I've enjoyed reading your blog so far. I like your writing style and did actually 'laugh out loud' reading the Caviar in the Surf blog entry.:D
Looking forward to reading more instalments soon.
Thank you!!!

and another British couple who told a story of how a few years ago that a travel agent booked them on an RCI ship and they were horrified that there were children on board and lots of people, so they asked that their luggage be collected and they would be disembarking permanently. The cruise had been pre-paid so they lost the entire week’s cruise amount.
You know we played trivia with these two, and I really, really like them! (And to be so decisive on such short notice is quite impressive!)

Frankly, the observation bar was much more upbeat and fun than guitar guy - by a mile. The pianist, David, was terrific and we had a couple of passengers that sang with him as well... it got the room engaged, for sure.
(That being said, nolatravelgirl, jenidallas and I have discussed onboard, and I agree with all the above).

The first installment of the blog is here... more coming soon (and VIDEOS, too!)
but to answer your question, 1 formal, 4 Elegant Casual (jacket required) and 5 Resort casual (no jacket required). FKGuy would have left at least one jacket at home if we had known there were so many Resort Casual evenings!
-
I will double check in the herald the number of nights you need a jacket. I know it was less than we thought it would be.

Yep, Karl is onboard until december 17. Sophoe, the assistant cruise director (who is awesome) will be leaving for vacation on Nov 27, and i am not sure about Heidi.
-
We are back.. What awonderful trip. Recap on the blog starting Monday (and behnd the scenes videos!)
-
Looks like Karl will be on, officially starting starting in a few days (although I did see him today) through Dec 17. After that, Vitor Alves (who is awesome) will be back.
-
Is that Karl who was on our cruise last December? From Germany?
Yep, same awesome guy. I'll ask if he is staying for Christmas and will let you know.
-
Will look for Bill and Martha.
meanwhile, everything has been wonderful. Already got to know the sommelier in the restaurant a bit, cruise director Heidi and assistant Sophie both seem lovely, and am happy to report after one dinner and one lunch in the restaurant, all is terrific. Food (with the exception of an unfortunate swordfish, which was quickly corrected) and service have been wonderful.
We have not yet seen any crew members that we recognize from previous sailings. But hotel director Karl Eckl is joining the ship at the end of this week.

Thanks! I was re-reading a bunch of it lately (in anticipation, and in an effort to not duplicate) and realized I missed a bunch of goodies. But, that is what you get when you go on a cruise in the middle of selling a house, packing, moving and buying a new house! This year, I am much more relaxed...

Leaving today for the 10 day Sojourn Caribbean trip (and still a little bummed that it is 2 days shorter than the Quest cruise last year.)
Will try to post here, too, but if you are on Twitter or Facebook, I'll be posting some photos throughout the trip ( user name: FloridaKeysGirl) and will have full blog posts (http://www.floridakeysgirl.com) upon my return.

In terms of luxury cruises, those lines have good sales from time to time, as well. If you are a savvy shopper and factor in the included values that you would pay for on another line (gratuities, alcohol, soft drinks, coffee drinks, specialty restaurants, etc....) there is sometimes not as great a disparity as you might imagine.

32 days! Looking forward to cruising the Caribbean on the Sojourn!

FKGirl,
Thank you for your post. AS I mentioned above one of the reasons Seabourn has so few gatherings is that they ships are so small and they rely on like minded people to find each other on their own. They do have a complete array of lectures, games, events etc. though and I agree that most SB passengers are friendly and outgoing.
Right... I generally find like minded people while sipping champagne in the hot tub. If you drink champagne, (or wine, or rum, or tequila, or bourbon) then we are like minded :)
Hope to meet you aboard one of these days!

This is an interesting topic... Although I am straight, this is an important issue for me for a number of reasons (not the least of which being that I am human and think all people should be treated well - call me crazy.)
Anyway, Seabourn does not seem to have too many gatherings of any kind, for specific groups that I have seen. (on our first cruise on the Spirit, there was a Jewish Friday night service listed in the program for which a total of 3 people showed up - my husband didn't even come.)
One of the things Seabourn loves to tout is engaging with fellow passengers, and I have to tell you we have met a few that were a bit standoffish, but most - regardless of orientation - have been quite friendly, at least on the cruises we have sailed.
Glad to hear that you (mostly) enjoyed your cruise!

We had a great time on the Eco tour from adventure Antigua. Review on my blog here : http://floridakeysgirl.com/2012/12/adventure-antigua-the-eco-tour/
