  1. My wife and I are expecting a little girl due this September. We’re considering joining our extended family on the Mardi Gras in May, so she’ll be about 8 months.

I see on Carnivals site that they offer child care services select hours for a hourly charge for infants. We don’t plan on needing it often but it may be nice to enjoy a night at Rudy’s or the Steakhouse just the two of us. Does anyone know the hours they offer and have any “reviews”? We’ve been on Mardi Gras a couple times now but this would be the first with a baby.

Thank you in advance for any tips on cruising with little ones too 😁

I'd agree that the risk of the train 'day of' is minimal, even in Spring (the parts of the track which used to be susceptible to landslides after heavy rain have been improved and cancelled services are now extremely rare; and the train starts in Seattle so there's no dependency on other less-reliable Amtrak services - I can only recall one morning train that did not arrive in time for folks to make their ship in the last decade).

Cabs are cheap enough that for a couple you barely have to pay extra over SkyTrain tickets, and since many folks cruising take this service you can also perhaps even split a cab to the pier - potentially making it even cheaper than transit as well as removing the (very small) risk of being kicked off for schlepping luggage (the SkyTrain line running past the station has no luggage storage areas, so unless you travel very light you cannot avoid blocking a seat, the aisle, or the wheelchair/bike spaces - all of which are against local transit bylaws).

Unless you've visited Vancouver before though I'd still suggest coming up earlier - not because of the risk of missing the boat, but because we're better than Seattle;-)

Thank you both! I do agree Vancouver is beautiful. We spent some post cruise time after our Hawaii cruise last year (Hawaii-Vancouver).

  3. I’m booked on Carnival Legend leaving April 29 from Vancouver returning to Seattle. We booked round trip fights from Seattle and are spending 2 days pre cruise. We were planning on taking the train from Seattle to Vancouver the morning of the cruise. Is this reliable?

  4. I did this cruise last year.it was 11 days so we had 2 days in Honolulu though.our boarding was regular times but after check in we were allowed to get off ship and enjoy Honolulu some more.

No FTTF on a journey sailing.

Lots of special events. Throwback sea day with a captain gala, a lecturer on board, special fly on entertainers (Hawaiian dancers came on Maui night and did a Polynesian cultural show), and a few other things.

It was a great cruise! Have a great time and take good care of the ship we’re doing the Alaska sailing the day you get off!

  5. We just booked a quick getaway on the Elation in September. We were on the Legend prior to dry dock this spring in Hawaii. Legend at the time didn’t have Alchemy but there was a martini bar with a similar menu (Cucumber sunrise, Remedy, Pineapple Chipotle Martini ect) and the mixologists were present (white coats and all). Basically Alchemy in everything but name. Does Elation have anything similar? We really love the Alchemy Bar...and hoping for some good pre dinner drinks.

    Thanks everyone!

  6. We’re on the Carnival Legend Hawaii repositioning cruise in April. Our Hilo stop only 9-5. Is renting a car to go to Volcano National Park doable? How about rainbow falls? It’s our last port day so I’m nervous about missing the ship. Any advice?

Where should we rent a car to maximize time?

  7. We went twice on our recent Magic Cruise. The only free tea is Liptons now but it's worth going for the pastries alone. I enjoy Liptons black tea with a little milk so it was fine by me. The pastries are free and were delicious! We didn't see the items offered during tea time anywhere else on the ship. I'd recommend giving it a chance.

  8. We are seriously considering a Journey cruise on the Legend from Hawaii April 20, 2018. We are concerned this is the last cruise before dry dock and service will thus suffer. Also I've heard reports of work starting in the cruise before dry dock. This is a very unique itinerary that we love.

We're concerned the service will be bad or ship will be under construction. Any advice? Should we just do it?

  9. We just went in September (not on a Plus route). I can say it was very hot and I recommend a change of clothes for the ride back (at least a new shirt). It was high 90’s with high humidity.

Lunch wise there is a little market by the parking lot where bus drops you off. There are several restaurants and bars mixed in and they were reasonably priced. We got some tacos and they were amazing.
